It's a used purchase for me.
Lot bashing it but it just doesn't have a huge appeal to me, The gameplay looks solid but I don't like the character design, and you need to be able to relate to the character to really immerse yourself. Just don't see that happening with knack.

Damm it doesn't sound like he has much confidence in his own game. I understand what hes saying about the world changing and making a game for people new to gaming but a great game that does all that can still be made as a worthy *1st purchase for anyone who really likes the genre.

Games starring non-human characters have done very well in the past, especially in this particular genre. Hedgehog, bandicoot, Lombax, etc... Character design has much less to do with it than personality, and fun gameplay is the most important thing.

I love sonic crash etc. There is just something about this particular design that doesn't appeal to me. Maybe its all the spikes.
Seems a lot of people are judging the game and most come down to the character, so don't think I'm in the minority. I don't see much personality to Knack as a character which I think is it's biggest flaw. He is like a shell and nothing underneath.

its a non purchase for me. While i genuinely enjoy platforms i feel like this game is just fukin lame looking. Sony should have made this a free to play title cus quite frankly a lot of free to play titles they are releasing look much better than this

Zero interest in this game, none. Of all the nextgen launch titles this is the least interesting. I buy a nextgen console for nextgen experiences, and there is nothing nextgen about Knack.

Another factor is that this game have PS Plus written all over it. Maybe I can be convinced to spend $15 as a digital download but $60? No, hell no.

I think this is a much better game than people give it credit for. It's not that photo realistic game that everyone wants, but it looks very fun.

Can't argue. Besides this is the guy who have been in the business for long time and have given us games like Sonic the Hedgehog, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon and even being a consultant for games like Uncharted. Mario and Shigeru Miyamoto often gets huge credit for being masters of platforming, but I think Cerny is even better.

Sonic was created by Yugi Naka. Mark was a producer for the sequel. Crash was created by Jason Rubin and Andy Gavin. Spyro is credited to Craig Stitt. While Mark was involved with all these games, the creation/idea was someone elses. Mark was the producer who over seen development more like a manager.

Miyamoto not only created his games and characters, but also produced them. He was one of the early creators of video games and had nothing to copy or build on like modern developers do. Cerny stands out in his field, but he doesn't even come close to Miyamoto in skill or accomplishments. It's nice that you feel Cerny is good, but prior to the PS4's announcement not many really new who he was.

There's definitely parts of it that haven't aged well, for sure. It would be interesting to see how a remake could fix the things that need it while somehow maintaining the game's charm.

My thoughts exactly. It's been a long-ass time since I've played it, but I remember there being weirdness with the plot regarding a female character. I'm on the fence about whether I'd want an FF7 Remake-style approach, or just a warts-and-all approach of it being the same exact game with 21st century graphics and presentation.

Even with regards to the goofy voice acting lol!

Part of me wants that FF7R style treatment.

It's still one of those hidden gem JRPG's I love the game. I wish Sony would do something with the title whether an HD remaster or give it the remake treatment like Square did with FF7. I also wish Sony would do something with the Wild Arms franchise and another JRPG franchise I love as well.

Story and charecters were good, cinematics were top notch and gameplay was fun for its time but world and exploration left much to be desired especially after playing games that came out before it like FF and Xenogears . It's a shame we never got another in-house made Sony rpg , kinda surprised they never tried to acquire Level-5 for all they rpgs they've made for them

Tbh after this generation, you're probably right to if you haven't dipped already. It's been the most underwhelming generation and with the constant price rises, I dread to to think how next generation is going to fair when so many people are still playing PS4 and Xbox One

Sure I can get that but one very important thing he noted confirmed that Sony codeveloped FSR 4 and that the full fat codeveloped FSR algorithm is coming to PS5 Pro: "It's not a cut down of the algorithm, it's the full-fat version of the co-developed super resolution."

Thats huge. To me it means the opposite. It means that my PRO will probably last me a ways into next gen.
Given the price, this pleases me.

You got a point there, if price madness does happen and next gen ends up being 4 figures (which it wont, I still think itll be less than the Pro, that's an optional console they can price it how they want without excluding the casual gamer from new games . The Pro will probably still play games well for a quite a few years

I'm gonna sit out ps6 and just go PC at this point , everything that will get released on ps6 will also be on ps5 or PC . There are very few games that could warrant exclusivity or enough capable developers to truly utilize the technology even now to justify another console upgrade at this point.

If it ends up being $1000, I don’t blame you. Hell, I should, but I’ve always been a console pleb. This PS5 Pro has just been a major joke to me, and that’s coming from someone who supported and saw the value in getting the PS4 Pro.

You’re right, games have to specifically support the PS5 Pro to even take advantage of that 30% GPU boost, and even then there have already been reports of it being janky in some titles. I won’t forget Silent Hill 2. With the PS6 coming up, you’ll get all those features and more, plus the ability to play PS6 games.

Firstly, can we acknowledge that Sean Booker is clearly a dumb••• for thinking PS6 or another device will ship in 2027 when Project Amethyst has little to do with HW? With that out of the way, Mark said it takes roughly 4 years to develop a console and Pro shipped less than a year ago now.

2024+4=2028 <- Just some basic rocket vasopnumoneurology for you.

It's of course possible that PS has multiple HW teams cooking up new accessories and consoles that can ship sooner than 2028, but it's not looking likely. I'm sure we'd have heard of some airtight PSP2 rumors by now or some rumors about games with how leaky all these companies are.

Mark Cerny is also hyping PS6 also. Talking about pushing the boundaries of graphics. He also abandoning PSSR in the pro which can only mean no new PSSR iteration.

Man we've heard it allll before. "Pushing the limits of graphics" it's all over exaggerated PR that we've heard over and over. He even exaggerated the Pro. Graphics will look more the same with better locked in frames maybe higher res. PS5 cross gen holding it back probably more than ever imo. Now we're hearing more promises and hype from these consoles. MS even said the same boring hype PR with "cutting edge" tech in the new xbox.

Can't stress this enough and I really think this gen is the worse one easily.

I think there's a weird expectation/understanding surrounding PSSR. I get it, as it feels like it was initially billed as almost the primary selling point of the Pro. However, we've gotten a lot more information through leaks and interviews over time that seem to paint a fairly clear picture: The Pro was ready to ship, FSR4 was not, so PSSR was used as a stopgap solution.

It wasn't long after launch that we heard about Project Amethyst, telling us all what the future held for their upscaling tech. They co-developed the tech, so it's clear this is where they were always ultimately heading, whether they opted to call the tech PSSR or not.

It really feels like this comes down to semantics. Yes, if they drop the PSSR branding, they technically abandoned PSSR in a fairly short timeframe. But they are co-architects of FSR4. They aren't abandoning upscaling, they aren't just licensing some off the shelf software solution, they are moving from the transitional PSSR to their planned upgrade of FSR4.

PSSR, as a product name, doesn't have all that much general awareness/mindshare, and had some rough patches at the start. Eschewing it to instead say "PS5 Pro has FSR4" seems a pretty sensible choice. It's had nothing but praise from the start, and is talked about as being within striking distance of even Nvidia's newest iteration of DLSS - the upscaler with the most positive sentiment/mindshare, hands down.

To clarify about PSSR: Cerny stated that the algorithms that they codeveloped are marketed on PlayStation under the 'Spectral' branding. So any update to the super resolution tech on Pro will be another iteration of PSSR. So expect the introduction of PSSR 2.0 in the near future. So saying they are abandoning it indicates that you didn't read the article.

PSSR is just a branch of FSR with PlayStation in the name. It's literally the same tech, just not as advanced. It's why you hear terminology like "full fat," because it implies no compromises. Nothing is being abandoned. It's evolving into its next iteration. It very well could still go under the same PSSR moniker but upgraded to FSR4.

They are basically working together to co-devlop the cnns and strategies for game graphics. So the research benefits borth products and they will share similar capabilities. So its not exactly FS4 that comes to PS5 but rather the models that then used by PSSR. Their long term goal together is to develop hardware that maximizes the execution of ML. This longterm goal will impact things like the PS6 but doesn't sound like it is focused on acceleration graphics only ML. This is big for AMD and will make them more competetive in the AI landscape.

To be fair we know that FSR4 will bring Ray Reconstruction like tech in the future. Also FSR4 beats DLSS3 and even some aspects of DLSS4. The era of Nvidia having a huge leg up in ML is over. Its not on 'another level'.
