Gi - Transistor is an upcoming strategy game with turn-based and RPG elements, but genre is hard to pin down with Supergiant Games’ latest effort. Their previous game, the wildly popular and beloved Bastion (the amount Bastion fans love the game is inspiring) was easier to pin down with its concrete action-adventure mechanics and role-playing upgrade systems. Not that Bastion was simplistic, it was far from it, but the framework was easy to recognize. Transistor, however, has touches of the familiar in its gameplay architecture but there is also something unique and different about how those familiar elements come together. There is something so comforting about how it plays; yet it’s hard to say why because while the parts may be recognizable, the whole feels completely new and foreign.
