Wait Sony has a VR headset for PS4!?

I'd buy it if it was cheap enough and the quality was there. I'd love to play something like Planetside 2 with a VR headset.

Sony has had VR style visor displays for a while just like Nikon and others.

I tried out the Sony hmz and there were things I liked and didn't like about it. The color and picture quality was gorgeous. The fit was bad. If it wasnt positioned perfectly on your eyes/face then the picture was off. The device was not comfortable to wear for extended periods of time, because the weight was not evenly distributed.

With that said, I understand that the hmz was more of a personal movie viewing device and not actually a VR headset. I know Sony has what it takes to build a true VR headset and I hope they learn from the design flaws they had with the hmz.

I once came really close to buying the hmz, but restrained myself from doing it after reading about the oculus rift. However, I'm willing to pay $800 if Sony's version of a VR headset exceeds the oculus rift.

smh sony been working on vr headset long before any company for say Oculus Rift every did. yeah they came out with it first but it was awful point blank. sony know how release something that work,and not trashy and hope people buy it.

You'd only be able to play first person and driving games but @ DarkBlood, Mirrors Edge would be mind blowing! I can just see it now, looking around cities while on top of skyscrapers, then suddenly having to run away from cops, jumping from building to building, with bullets flying past my ears. This will make dreams become reality.

Very cool idea and if done properly can be amazing but at the same time if done wrong can fail terribly

My problem with this VR direction, if it's even true, is that it will most definitely not be the Oculus Rift.

O.R. is literally being developed by a man whose IQ qualifies him as a genius, John Carmack.

Now, before you jump on my case here, let me just say that JC is truly brilliant, he developed the first engine for DOOM back in the day, and remnants of his code still linger in many game engines used by developers today. BUT, this is not my point.

My point is, JC is not only a genius, but he is obsessed with Oculus. He is the harbinger of VR into the consumer market, and I truly believe Oculus Rift will be in its own class above any other attempts or knock-off VR devices.

Now, this isn't to say that Sony is incapable of successfully developing VR hardware. BUT, Sony has their hands full with things they're already excelling at, the PS4 and console games.

My underlying point in all of this rambling, is that I believe it is too soon for anyone to try to challenge Carmack at this stage. Everyone who's used Oculus seems to be blown away and truly impressed with what Carmack has established, and it's not because he slopped together some shambled prototype with duct tape to tap into a new market for the sole purpose of making a profit. Carmack is putting his heart and sole into Oculus, and until the Oculus is in everyone's hands and is being tinkered with and experimented on, it will be too soon to try to start from scratch a VR hardware device that is expected to compete with something that someone truly brilliant has obsessively poured their attention into for years.

Sony showed an amazing model of VR reality at 2011. But was only a prototype, this model wasn't launched for various reasons, such the price 800 USD. Is unlikely that this model can be launched in at short time, the reason is the fact that the company is focusing in the traditional gamer. Some sources, indicate that the definitive model with a low price could be presented in 2014 when the number of users and studios will be significative. For Sony is enough at the moment, the hard battle for save Vita.

One example of how hard is the introduction of new devices is the Kinect, a large majority doesn't want it and worst this device doesn't have games only is used for voice recognition.

This sounds great, it could be really fun and immersive. Sony could have a huge hit in this. I think it is smart to develop in house because then they don't have to negotiate price with oculus, meaning it could be much cheaper.

2015 will be the year of VR

I'm so excited for VR that I'll buy it day-one, but my only concern is how well it will work with my crappy vision. I don't even care about the 3D effect, which I can't see anyway; I just want to experience the feeling of being inside the game, really sitting in the car when playing DriveClub (and I'd buy DriveClub just to play in VR despite otherwise having little interest in racing sims!).

Hopefully, the lenses in these systems are adjustable enough to accommodate people like me. The Occulus Rift didn't sound very promising due to only having three fixed options, so hopefully Sony's effort will offer a little more flexibility.

I hear the price point will be very high for this. If true. This fails right from the start. This has to be priced in the same ballpark as the Oculus Rift or its game over.

They will lose a lot of sales from this short-sightedness. People with VR2 would have been all over this just like they were with GT7 even if not into racing games all that much. And regular players of the F1 games who have tried VR racing will probably give the franchise a miss this year. Once you try racing in VR its hard to go back to racing on a screen.

I'm surprised they have overlooked this to be honest. literally everyone is asking for it on the forums.
