With PSN and XBLA games, I'm not sure backwards compatability matters anymore. Being able to dowload and play old games is more important now.

loftygaming6584d ago

some people have a certain game that they wanna play but most of them no one bothers with

heyheyhey6584d ago

well Xbox backwards compatability isnt that important, firstly because there weren't that many good games for it that aren't currently available on the XBLM

secondly, because not many people have an extensive Xbox collection that they want to replay on their 360's

with PS2 BC its different- there were MANY more good games for it that people still want to play and there isnt a PS2 download service on the PSN yet

and there are over 120mil PS2 owners with PS2 collections that they may want to play on their PS3 when they get one

JasonPC360PS3Wii6584d ago

I have about 50 people on my friends list that play original Xbox games on a regular basis. See heyheyhey MS isn't like Sony, they don't drop BC at the first sign of trouble. In fact they have continued to support BC long after they intended. Can you say the same about Sony?

See BC is there if Xbox fans want it, it's an option, a choice, we continue to have. Every 360 is BC if you have a hard drive. What about the 40gb PS3? seems funny to me how Sony always bragged about it's userbase and then talked smack about MS droping support for the Xbox. Then they turn around and leave PS2 owners out to dry, so they could get an even cheaper Blu-Ray player on the market.

Arcade version of the 360 can be upgraded for BC. 40gb PS3? :) please, and what about those in europe left out in the cold? Xbox was out for 4yrs and had some of the biggest GOTY titles to come out http://xbox.ign.com/article...

"and there are over 120mil PS2 owners with PS2 collections that they may want to play on their PS3 when they get one" unless they own a 40gb and live in parts of europe.

If your going to troll Xbox news, at least come with some bigger guns.

BUKKAKALYPSE6584d ago

"with PS2 BC its different- there were MANY more good games for it that people still want to play"

due to the fact that they don't have PS3 games to play? :)

myabsolution6584d ago

props to Jason 360.

At least we have updated compatability being worked on over course of months time. Hell, why would I want to have to repurchase games on the marketplace instead of just using an old copy? That logic fails.

How can ANYTHING negative come from added backwards compatability..?!?! To spin it as a negative like some people are is ****ing retarded...

God damn trolls. Someone call Ernest to get rid of them.

The Wood6584d ago (Edited 6584d ago )

nar MS just decided to drop the whole console altogether. maybe you should try harder;)

On topic, This is a good thing. Some of the games may not be popular but that doesn't mean people don't want to play them. On the psn side though playing ps1 games is a waste of time and money, hey hey hey is right in the fact that there are many ps2 games that are still worth playing though. I cant comment on the xbox titles as I may of missed many goodens as I never owned 1

yeah jay, my comment was obviously worthy of an ignore, lol @jason 3sensitive

JasonPC360PS3Wii6584d ago (Edited 6584d ago )

You should check things before you assume, therfore you won't end up looking stupid.

Ohhh.... to late :)

GiantEnemyCrab6584d ago

MS did not own all the components inside the original Xbox. They had some legal problems with Nvidia and it was costing them too much money to continue to make them.

On Topic: MS said they planned to stop backwards compat but it looks like they are continuing to do it. You would be surprised how many Xbox1 owners are chiming in on games they want to play on their 360 so it is far from irrelevant. Just look at the comments in this thread of people requesting games.

thor6584d ago

@ Jason 360

I totally agree that sony's been hypocritical about the whole issue. I don't know why they've decided to drop BC from the 40gb model, it makes no sense (especially considering that the components themselves only cost a minimal amount). I know people who don't care about BC for their existing library, but don't own a PS2 and won't buy a PS3 because they want to be able to play PS2 games on it (and let's face it, there are a lot of good ones out there). I'm glad I've got a UK 60gb model, but it's still annoying that it doesn't play _all_ PS2 games. While I admit that I haven't felt the urge to play a PS2 game in about a year or so, I still think we've been screwed over this.

The Wood6584d ago (Edited 6584d ago )

Im not here to troll or anything but, what am I to check exactly. I made my last comment 6 hours ago and had 15 ignores a few minutes after my comment above its moved to 16, I may be wrong, if so silly me, but it seemed apparent to me.

maybe it was mk red, i think i said something bad about mortal kombat;)

@thor
That decision was made to seem worst by the lack of a replacement for the 60 gig which did have bc..

Nostradamus6584d ago

None at all.

But I wouldnt know from experience, I dont have any PS2 games.

hades076584d ago

It definitely matters. I never had a regular xbox, only a PS2, and thanks to backwards compatibility I have been able to play great games that I missed and are still relevant today like Panzer Dragoon Orta, Conker Live and Reloaded and Ninja Gaiden Black, with even more games like Otogi that I hope they add soon. I'm betting I'm not also not the only one who missed out on some fantastic Xbox games and appreciate the backwards compatibility. Now I need to find a 60gb PS3 when I pick one up so I can use my PS2 collection, with a broken PS2 God of War 2 is feeling neglected.

solidt126583d ago

I still play GTA San Andreas on my 360 alot

i think hes right about the ps2 have more and better game than the original xbox

MetalProxy6584d ago

yes he is right, and it not good to bring up facts about the old xbox. Iam sure it hurts.

GiantEnemyCrab6584d ago (Edited 6584d ago )

What does this post have to do with the PS2 software library again?

The Xbox1 was out well after the PS2 and it was Microsofts first system. Of course the PS2 had a bigger offering than the Xbox1, you will find no one that will argue that point. Much like this gen with the 360 being first and the PS3 late to the party the 360 has the better library.

CNIVEK6584d ago

Most of them must've just had an update/patch. Still waiting for Oddworld: Sranger's Wrath and Beyond Good & Evil. :/

MorganX6584d ago

heheh, those are actually two oldies I might fire up. Expecially Stranger's Wrath. I'd like to give Beyond G&E a go just because of the critical acclaim it has received.

benny o klaatt6584d ago

still no strangers wrath or mashed, that was a brilliant simple top down racer especially when played 4 player

Nevers6583d ago

... especially since I was under the impression that they wouldn't be doing anymore porting of old xbox games. Yet I'm still waiting for SSX Tricky. For the love of god when will they port that crack over...

Yi-Long6584d ago

... is Rallisport Challenge 2!?!?!?!?

THE best rally game of ALL TIME!!!!

Dpa6584d ago

Wonder what they fixed in Shenmue 2?

Yi-Long6584d ago

... it would be nice if they had included an option to use the original japanese voices, instead of the horrible english dub.

Seriously doubt they actually did that though ;)

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

DarXyde2d ago

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

Soy3d ago

And then MK1 killed it again.

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.
