Most observers agree that the graphics processing unit (GPU) is gaining on the central processing unit (CPU) as the single most important piece of silicon inside the PC. "When you start looking at a PC today, the (central) processor means less and less," according to Jim McGregor, an analyst at In-Stat. Where? Non video related tasks IMO will always outnumber video related tasks.
graphic cards will *eventually* be made obsolete for mass market like sound cards were but I reckon if nvidia want to stay up with intel/amd they should buy via...and or work closer with ibm/sony/toshiba
Sure in most modern games the GPU is very important, but the CPU which processes what goes on in game will never be replaced by a simple graphics processor. The CPU is needed to process what goes on in the game. This is a simple fact that won't change.
