Asus announces first-ever triple-GPU graphics card

Computer parts manufacturer Asus claims to have scored a world first with the launch of its latest graphics card.

The Asus EAH3850 Trinity has no fewer than three separate graphics processing unit (GPU) cores on the video card.

By using the three cores together, Asus says a 139 per cent improvement in top speeds may be achieved when compared with a single-GPU card.

An impressive 1.5 GB of on-board memory is fitted to ensure the processors have the available to capacity to run at their optimum levels.

Meanwhile, two DVI outputs help to ensure the high-quality graphics achieved are passed on to display equipment.

Asus suggests that the video card could prove ideal either for high-resolution multimedia playback or for running games which require DirectX 10.

The company recently announced the launch of its EPU range of motherboards for eco-friendly systems.

Hmmm, but are three of these mid-high end GPUs enough to beat a single high end core, like a 8800 or 9800 GTX? I don't mind the possiblity of "hexa Crossfire", but these are three of their mid range GPUs in a card? Is it really necessary to pair these kinds of parts together? Wouldn't someone rather just have two higher end cores in a single card (are the 3850 and 3870 the same core?, I can't recall), instead of forking out for three lower end ones? I mean, sure it has 1.5 gigs of RAM in it, but with the kind of power these cores have it pretty much just goes to waste.

The only reason I could potentially see getting this is because it runs cooler and quieter then the higher end GPUs. I remember Sapphire was planning on making a dual GPU x1950 Pro awhile back. You could easily just get a x1950 XTX instead, but this card could run cooler then that one.

the ATI RADEON HD 3850 is not that bad. In a test of 50 GFX cards it has made place 10 and 13 (first place is the ATI RADEON HD 3870 X2 and last place a Nvidia Gforce 7300 GS) It still manages 112 frames in HALF LIFE LOST COAST with 4x AntiAliasing and 8x AnisotropicFiltering at a resolution of 1600x1200 and the price is about 240 Dollars (the price for a 3870 is about the same and a 3870 X2 costs about 490 $ ) if i had the money i would buy it (maybe) but then think that would be a lot of games for my consoles :-)
...but thats a another story

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing26d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit26d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing26d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9226d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
