The Elder Scrolls Online Preview - TGH

TGH writes: "I can hear all you non-MMO fans sighing already at the thought of a purely single-player series like The Elder Scrolls being turned into one packed with others. But, if you put your hasty judgements and preconceptions aside, it seems that Zenimax Online has done a stellar job with this new and different entry into the series. After having spent two hours playing through the closed beta PC build at this year’s Gamescom, I’ve been left itching to jump right back in."

I'm sure people will buy it..but idk about that $15 a month.

I'm not sure how the sub model works on consoles, but personally, I'm a fan of subscription model. It ensures frequent, high quality content patches and blocks out pay to win mechanics.
The game itself looks pretty solid for anyone who likes MMOs or TES

The same it work for FF11 on the PS2 and Xbox 360.

I'm sure it'll be interesting for 2 weeks, before it becomes obvious that it's the same(or worse) as every other sword and sorcery MMO, but with even more bugs courtesy of Bethesda(also known as Bugthesda).

They'll go F2P, which will help for a few months, but then Bethsoft will abandon it like they have all their other games, and it'll shrivel up and die when the players flock back to WoW, Guild Wars 2 and DCUO etc.

Do some research before criticizing the game, will ya? The game is only -published- by Bethesda, Zenimax is developing it.
It was Bethesda's own game studio that made Skyrim.

Remove $15/mo and microtranscation $hit, I'll buy this game day 1

Cernunnos4649d ago

If they are to remove both the subscription, AND not rely on microtransactions, how will they make money on the game?
THINK

Red_Devilz4649d ago

The way Skyrim made money. (and it did very well) I am ready to pay full price. Thats why I said "Day 1"

This "persistent online" is a HUGE problem for next gen gaming. I wonder what will happen to all these persistent online games when significant numbers of people stop paying for online things? Please don't argue that people will continue paying FOREVER. Will these games just vanish after servers are cut? (for those who don't know - read news about 'Age of Empires Online' shutting down) Thats such a loss for gamers.

Its time YOU think.

Cernunnos4648d ago (Edited 4648d ago )

Skyrim is a single player game, this is an mmo. It has to run on tons of servers that cost money, it needs maintenance, it will constantly have content updates. You cannot compare it to Skyrim.

As for games being shut down, EVE Online is doing better than ever, its 10 years old this year. WoW has been going strong for 8+ years aswell.

Mainsqueeze4649d ago

People don't understand the concept of people wanting to make money on something they worked hard on, they just want everything for free.

B2P is so much more appealing these days.
