Sony should thank Microsoft for helping out.

ShugaCane4644d ago

Sony should thank Sony for being amazing.

slutface4643d ago

Sony should thank Kaz Hirai for totally repairing the damage that was done before he stepped in. He is such a valuable asset to Sony. Ballmer needed to take notes from him.

N84643d ago

Microsoft did make it easier. I was always gonna get a ps4 but wanted to see what the new Xbox was about. After DRM I had pretty much acted like it never existed. I have both systems now but if they would have kept DRM not even an exclusive mgs game would have convinced me, and I love mgs

shoddy4643d ago (Edited 4643d ago )

Sony should thank MS for creating DRM bs and charging $499 for a lower spec console

van-essa4643d ago

I really want to get a PS', but now you have to pay for PSN :( WTH Sony

Jiggins994643d ago

@ Van-essa
with ps+ you get at least a free AAA game every month, the service is soooo worth the money

JetsFool35004643d ago

Microsoft should thank sony for make them realize that the drm policies are a dumb idea

Akuma2K4643d ago (Edited 4643d ago )

double post

Akuma2K4643d ago

Sony doesn't need to thank Microsoft for anything, it was Microsoft themselves that turned their backs on their own fan base and now they're paying the price for it.

Brute_Shot_Adam4643d ago

Yea! How dare MS try to cut out the middle man when selling games, driving the price of their games down! Booo

BOLO4643d ago

You're absolutely right. I'll do the honors: Thanks M$FT.

Sincerely, Playstation 4

With Nintendo having struggles in the console market and Microsoft's own investors wanting the Xbox brand to go, Sony seems like the defacto winner.

Which has its pros and cons. No one wants Sony to become complacent, but it looks like we'll have yet another PS1/PS2 era where virtually every single worthwhile game will be on a Sony console.

@ below

It's okay to be a fan of the Xbox brand, but let's not lie to ourselves. Have the last 6 months been good or bad for Xbox? Have the last 6 months (the last 3 years, actually) improved the XBox brand as a hardcore gaming platform or weakened it? Maybe Microsoft will suddenly fall in love with hardcore gaming again. I don't know. But all the evidence says "nope".

miDnIghtEr20C_SfF4644d ago

You mean a investor. Not investors. What does that dude have like a 1% share?

Ya, X1 isn't going anywhere.

Chaostar4644d ago

@midnight Saw that argument on Neogaf, apparently 1% is a good chunk as even the largest investors only hold around 4%. There is at least a small reason for concern there.

On topic: Sony have made loads of really smart investments and it looks like they will pay off in a big way this coming generation.

maniacmayhem4642d ago

Not too long ago Sony went through the same thing as one of it's investors wanted to split and sell if I'm not mistaken.

1% is less than what's needed and it is not going to happen. Welcome back Dedicated, it seems your still up to your old ways though.

miDnIghtEr20C_SfF4644d ago

So this is the Tsunami we've been told to wait for? Nice.. only took 7 years to get here.

CGI-Quality4643d ago (Edited 4643d ago )

Yeah, so in the last 7 years, PS3 got no games, right? OK. Live in your world.

OT: With Second Son coming just after the Holidays, looks like he's up to keeping that promise! Can't wait!

Shadowsteal4643d ago

Stop talking shit. PS3 has had floods the past few years compared to PC, Xbox360, Wii, and even Wii U. Especially this year. And we'll be seeing the same once PS4 comes out. You're seeing indie's now. But then the heavy hitters will come out like Naughty Dog and Santa Monica. Then those indies you're laughing at now? Each and every one of them have the potential to be the next Naughty Dog. And it'll be exclusive to PS because when everyone laughed at them Sony gave them a chance.

Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time
Ni No Kuni
God of War: Ascension
The Last of Us
Tales of Xillia
Dragon's Crown
Kingdom Hearts HD
FFX HD
Rain
Puppeteer
Beyond: Two Souls
Gran Turismo 6

Sevir4643d ago

Shadow Steal lets not for get Newly announced Ratchet and Clank:ITN and LBP Hub. 

Sony has been making sure the PS3 has a great year, even with the PS4 launching this year.

miDnIghtEr20C_SfF4643d ago

Cool! Make the PS3 so awesome, that why would you buy a PS4 for then? GT6 is PS3.

Point stands. Tsunami took until 2013 to arrive. MS has moved on to the X1, unless people are forgetting World of Tanks as well... which is a HUGE indie game.

I hope every console maker (Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft) sell a lot of consoles and make a lot of profit. I like competition and it's good for the consumer.

Console wars, i leave that for fanboys.

jimbobbeers4643d ago

You can't speak this much sense within a Sony article.

Well said pal.

Sony is going to take the gaming crown again just watch. Ps 1&2 era were the best for a reason.

LOGICWINS4644d ago

I dont recall them ever losing it.

jackanderson19854644d ago

the Wii is currently 20mil sales or so ahead of the PS3, they also lost more than 70 mil sales from PS2 to PS3

ShugaCane4644d ago

The Wii is twice cheaper.

LOGICWINS4644d ago

????

So console sales determine who has the "gaming crown"? I thought we were talking in terms of which console has most of the games I want to play. That console has always been Playstation for me...ever since the late 90s. Yeah, Ive owned Xbox and Nintendo consoles in the past, but PS consoles have always been my primary console.

Thatguy-3104644d ago (Edited 4644d ago )

Touché my friend touché. But I mean they didn't lose it but they weren't as dominant as before. I mean they basically had a monopoly those two gens. Things look to be going that same path.

LOGICWINS4644d ago

Im glad Sony wasnt as dominant last gen. It showed them that gamers wouldnt put up with a high price tag and a barebones online suite. Thats why they've come out swinging with value this gen. I guarantee you that if Sony had monopolized last gen, PS Plus wouldnt exist and the PS4 would have launched at $599 as well.

francknara64644d ago

Beyond and Puppeteer
VS
Driveclub and Knack

Sony year yeah, but more thanks to PS3 than PS4.

MasterCornholio4644d ago (Edited 4644d ago )

When did they cancel ShadowFall for the PS4?

What happened to the last of us and God of War (i know i know but the XBOX had Judgement) for the PS3?

francknara64644d ago

i didn't put all the year

add Gran Turismo for PS3 and Killzone for PS4 if you want, but the conclusion is the same

Jiggins994643d ago

its not about the launch games. this is the most exclusives you will ever see from microsoft coming out in a year

TheRealHeisenberg4644d ago

Looks like PlayStation took a hit with Marathon and is now quietly adjusting prices worldwide to recover the losses

andy8514d ago

Lets be honest raising prices doesn't do that when no one's buying it. I imagine the profit it greater selling 10 times more at a lower price

Pergele14d ago

Whatever you say buddy, let's all wear the tinfoil hats.

IceKoldKilla14d ago (Edited 14d ago )

LMFAO Your comment alone says a lot more about you than anything else. When has one game not selling 10 million copies made a company raise the prices of their console? Then Xbox would be costing $5000 by now lol. You remind of the crazy drug addicts on the street rambling on about conspiracies. xD You sure you don't need a hug, buddy?

ChunkyMonk14d ago

One game that Sony payed $200 million for. lol
Also, you sure were quick to get triggered. Maybe your the one who needs a hug?

Eonjay13d ago

If nothing else, we should be united against the real issue here. AI and unnecessary tariffs that are effecting all gamers.

Athlon10114d ago (Edited 14d ago )

The price increases are due to the RAM demand associated with AI and the US-Iran war. You can look to any business news website and local news to see that. Heck, even the 2026 Asus Zenbook Duo I've been eyeing has faced delays and has had a price increase of $400; that laptop has two specs. Asus is doing a staggered release with per-orders for the lower spec now and shipping in May and pre-orders for the higher spec that I'm eyeing starting in June. Basically, all computer manufactures are affected. It'll most likely start affecting smart phones too if it hasn't already. I can't remember the last time any major console maker (Nintendo, Sony, Sega, etc) increased the price of their console mid cycle outside of Microsoft just to make more profit.

S2Killinit13d ago

Its not the war. Its the RAM issue.

jznrpg13d ago

War is causing gas prices to rise. Transport of everything requires gas so the prices of those items go up as well. So it does have an impact

Athlon10113d ago (Edited 13d ago )

The blockage of the Straight of Hormuz due to the US-Iran war has affected raw components used in semi-conductor manufacturing such as bromine, aluminum, and helium. Iran had attacked the liquified natural gas (LNG) plant in Qatar which is a large producer (1/3 globally) of helium which is used in semiconductor etching. So it's the both the war and the RAM crises.

badz14914d ago

Oh no...should I get the Pro now before the price increase?

I dont think that'll ever happen. But i must say back in the day, they were definitely trying because they were more cash rich than their competitors.

CosmicTurtle27d ago

I think MS were and still are the richer company. They tried to acquire Sega back in the day (and considered doing so again more recently), they obviously bought exclusivity to Halo which was originally shown as a Mac title. I don’t think as a company MS can claim the moral high ground here. It’s a wilful lack of self awareness.

Of course Sony would try exactly the same if they had the resources, but when the PS2 dominated the industry was in a much healthier place with an abundance of great third parties.

This has been a depressing generation as far as first party decisions are concerned. The fact we are debating business plans rather than which game is better is a sad reflection of the state of things.

Darkseeker27d ago (Edited 27d ago )

There was Nintendo as well, Sony wouldn't have had a monopoly. In fact, the world would be better today if Xbox never existed in the first place. They pretty much brought all bad practices we have today. We might have gotten all of it either way, but not this early. In term of franchises, I don't think there is anything Microsoft released that would actually be missed if it didn't exist. Even Halo the world wouldn't notice if Halo didn't exist.

S2Killinit27d ago

MS was definitely a bad influence on gaming.

raWfodog27d ago

I think almost everyone will agree that a monopoly is not good for the industry. But that being said, the competition needs to be smart and strategic with their business. Simply buying up publishers and traditional third-party studios just to keep them out of the other companies reach is not a sustainable practice. That goes for all parties so don't think I'm just referring to Xbox.

I'm no business guru by any stretch of the imagination but I firmly believe that the best way to drive consumers to your software and hardware is to invest smart in your first-party studios. Give them full support and guidance in making unique, fun games that are only available to play in your ecosystem and the gamers will come.

Reaper22_27d ago (Edited 27d ago )

But first party studios aren't enough. They only make up a small portion of the industry. Without 3rd party there would be no industry for Microsoft or sony.Developing games take time and money and sometimes you gotta make moves to stay competitive.

raWfodog27d ago

Nah, I never said first-party was enough. I said it’s the ‘best way’ to drive gamers to your platform. 3rd-party is a free-for-all and there’s no guarantee that gamers will use your hardware to play the game. If you want to push your own software and/or hardware you need first-party, or at least exclusive deals with third-party studios.

SimpleDad27d ago

They Shure did a great job... 25 years later Xbox is dead.

Reaper22_27d ago

Then why be so emotional and continue to talk about it. Xbox will never die be ause it stays in so many people's head.

lodossrage27d ago

How can you even see him being "emotional" in that comment?

If anything, you're the emotional one, constantly trying to go at anyone that says anything against Microsoft. So when you call him emotional, it comes off as deflection

Elda27d ago

I own an XBSX & I can say it's becoming irrelevant out of the 3 current consoles.
