Titanfall Demo First Impressions

IGN editors discuss their initial reactions to the Gamescom for Titanfall.

kenmid4664d ago (Edited 4664d ago )

It seems they were blowing away about how good the game is.

Fishy Fingers4664d ago (Edited 4664d ago )

All the hands on previews seem to say its anything but average. Look's like a lot of fun to me.

kenmid4664d ago

@badboy776
lol, I just look at your profile and all your comments your clearly a Sony Fanboy Troll.

thejigisup4664d ago

Graphics are nice, game seems fluid enough it's just missing something for me. I'm not excited for it, like at all even. Why? Looks like a game I'd end up returning a month after buying it. Nothing I've seen has blown me away yet. And I think that means a lot coming into a new console generation.

Sevir4664d ago

That doesn't look average to me... It looks heads and shoulders above COD, graphically it isn't spectacular but gameplay wise the game looks pristine!! I'll gladly pick this up when it eventually launches on PS4

0neShot4664d ago

Having won over 60 awards since E3 is average?

trafalger4664d ago

kenmid,

"lol, I just look at your profile and all your comments your clearly a Sony Fanboy Troll."

which is why this site needs to have labels or some highlight next to each username. if a member is known to be a sony fanboy it would be very helpful within the discussions to know how credible this person is for example. if a m$ fanboy never has anything good to say about the ps4 the community should know that as well.

unless you are on here a lot and begin to know familiar names it makes it rather difficult for someone like me to filter through the nonsense. what i have noticed is a lot of stealth trolling going on and when you bring it up they get very defensive about it. in one case a known sony shill threatened me they will go to the mods if i continue to post past messages they made. saying it's harassment.

nobody should have to put up with trolls and fanboys as much as we do. having a bubble system only goes so far because if the community is filled with sony fanboys for example it would make some of them immune. unless of coarse they are very aggressive in nature and are very noticeable in there trolling. some of them are smarter than that, they know how far they can push the boundaries and at first it doesn't look too bad but when you go deeper into their profile you see a pattern where there is a hidden agenda going on.

long story short, the media is all over this game. sure it may not excite everyone but no game does. but when you see someone who has a history of being all about sony talk bad about a game that has of yet been announced for it you start to question there antics.

JokesOnYou4664d ago (Edited 4664d ago )

So far there are a lot of great games coming out but just purely from a gameplay perspective Titanfall is still the best game I've seen revealed for any next gen console. My bet is when this launches its going to grab a large portion of the COD fans. Its definitely looking like one of those must have games, and you better believe come this spring those dedicated servers for X1 are going to get a MASSIVE MULTIPLAYER workout, thanks to Titanfalls release. -Expect huge X1 marketing blitz and coast to coast midnight Titanfall store launches, lol I might check one out at my local gamestop but of course I'ma have this baby ready for download the second its up. Good times.

ABizzel14664d ago

@bayboy

I get what you're saying. It looks like what COD should have been a couple of years ago. I'm not saying it's a bad or average game, it's just I've over COD, and adding mech and vanquish style moving isn't going to help me get over that.

I'm a single player gamer first.

This game looks awesome. It would be the one reason I would get XB1 over PS4, but I have a feeling that it will be on PS4 eventually within 2 years.

I know I've said this before, but this is what COD should have evolved into a while back.

The pace at which the game happens is smooth and fluid and the graphics look sharp. I'm impressed, and I hope it sells a ton and makes the COD crowd realize what they are missing.

Games like Titanfall are the reason COD's sales will keep decreasing this gen.

Titanfall, Battlefield, Killzone are all going to offer more for your money than COD.

That being said, COD does look like it upgraded a few key things this year, but the gameplay, the most important part, still looks the same, which stinks.

Sleepless4664d ago (Edited 4664d ago )

These impressions say much about the game, it's not only a gameplay video anymore....people that played Titanfall are just excited. It feels like this game is going to be "Next big thing"...cant wait!

It seems to me that PS fanboys are the only ones that are not excited about this game, which is good for them I think.

sincitysir14664d ago

is..is that a uh..is that a rhetorical question? idk what to say 0_0 BUT this game got me excited for my xbox console ill be getting in 4 yrs! =D

Mr-Dude4664d ago (Edited 4664d ago )

The game looked great, and I hope someday it comes to PS4 also so that more people can enjoy this.

jb2274664d ago

It's more or less confirmed to hit the ps4 at some point in the future, the respawn guys have said almost as much, that it was always their point to deliver it on all platforms...it looks like it plays very smoothly and looks like a lot of fun, but I'm not a multiplayer guy, so I'm hoping whatever kind of campaign mechanic they have will be a good complete story

magzter4664d ago (Edited 4664d ago )

> "more or less confirmed"

You got that from "It's not out of the question"?

Master-H4664d ago

Guys, can it be played offline against bots ? and does it have split screen option ?

Studio-YaMi4664d ago (Edited 4664d ago )

If it comes on the PS4 then I'm going to wait, most of my close friends have PS3s and only buy Sony consoles,I want to play with them instead of just myself.

If it's not coming to PS4,then I'm buying it on PC,no harm here.

Btw! when the character jump on the building,it almost feels like the anime "Attack On Titan" to me lol ! xD

jb2274664d ago

@magzter....yup, "it's not out of the question" is developer speak to it's already in the cards....if it simply wasn't going to happen then they would be saying as much, and microsoft would be shouting it from the rooftops....bottom line is that a buzzworthy new dev w/ the clout of respawn would simply not waste years on a game that will only drop on a couple platforms, unless microsoft buys them outright it will see a ps4 release, because developers like money...the only way it definitely wouldn't happen is if the devs said "it's OUT of the question"...look at microsoft's track record w/ these kinds of things...mass effect series was once an "exclusive", but it eventually hit the ps3...bioshock was also an "exclusive" that hit the ps3...the first dead rising never hit the ps3 if i can recall, but the other two did...that's why the dead rising devs have said outright that it's not coming to the ps4

I'm going to get gutted like a fish for this but I honestly don't see the big deal over this. I mean I'd understand a little hype here and there for being a next gen game and all but I mean the response has made it look like the next best thing. All those awards at E3 and things like WatchDogs, The Division, Destiny, inFAMOUS SS looked better. The game dosen't even have a single player aswell, if a game dosen't have multiplayer these days it ends up getting marked down when it comes to reviewing this sureley when it comes to this it should loose points for not having a single player, I mean to spend a lot of money of a game with no single player at all.

To me it's a standard FPS game with mechs...added wall running from Brink and Jetpacks seen in Halo. Nothing jaw dropping where it's like "I havent seen anything like this before".

I'm not saying I "hate" it, I like the look of it and will try it out but I just don't see the big fuss over it when there is better games coming to Next gen.

Please, please, please when replying go easy, it's my opinion. Oh and please no "if it was on the PS4..." bullcrap. I'm judging the game, not the platform it's on for now.

XboxFun4664d ago (Edited 4664d ago )

It's your opinion but maybe graphics/visuals and what you think "looked" better isn't what makes this game a winner in the eyes of many. People are always so quick to dismiss a game because it doesn't look like This or That.

Maybe people loved it for it's control, level design, co-operative play, how much fun they had playing with others, how deeply involved they got, how easy it was to pick up and play. These all make a great game too not just because it didn't look like Watchdogs, Division or Infamous.

I think Destiny doesn't have a single player also. I could be wrong but I thought I read it's like a MMOlite.

Anyways...

Not everyone will think Titanfall is the awesome game I think it is and I don't expect everyone too. That is why there are so many other different games out there to choose from.

iceman064664d ago

I agree with this. Graphics can't be played. They can be enjoyed while playing, but they can't be played. Games are fundamentally fun for various reasons and sometimes these reasons are unique to individuals. This is a reason that indie games can still be fun and lack that AAA graphical edge. It's really about how focused and honed the core game experience is. I can't speak for Titanfall, as I haven't played it. However, it looks like it would be a fun title. I really like the vertical aspect of the game. (though not necessarily unique...it's still always fun to me) Also, the ability to battle mechs on foot. I think that would be a rush.

Megaton4664d ago

It got piles of E3 awards because it was one of the only playable games on the show floor. Apparently that's a requirement for being awarded. Didn't know that until I heard the guys from EpicBattleAxe talking about it on their podcast.

-Foxtrot4664d ago

That's the main reason...really? Wow, what an eye opener.

I did not know that, thank you for telling me

Megaton4664d ago

Yeah, it's a silly requirement. Posted a source below for XboxFun to counter his little tantrum, if you're interested.

maniacmayhem4664d ago

So Titanfall was the "ONLY" game playable and that's why it took all those awards?

XboxFun4664d ago

Really, so Megaton tells you that bogus reason and that's what you're going with as truly eye opening?

Ok, my bad, I actually thought you wanted some more realistic reasons from your outcry on top but I see you were only looking for troll seeds to be thrown at you.

I'll know next time.

falviousuk4664d ago (Edited 4664d ago )

You forget that rt his is n4g where anything said by anyone is fact when its a negative towards the xbox

Game looks good and its getting good reports from people who have actually played it.

Megaton4664d ago (Edited 4664d ago )

Didn't feel like searching for the exact EBC podcast, but a simple Google search turned this up.

http://www.gameinformer.com...

"As a reminder, only those games that were playable were eligible for nomination."

So if by "bogus reason" you mean "fact", yes.

JokesOnYou4664d ago (Edited 4664d ago )

lol, Megaton so you'd rather them give awards to "trailers", "announcements" or "concepts". lmfao, talk about butthurt, in summary all the awards mean that the Titanfall was the best game AVAILABLE that the critics could physically PLAY, and you actually think its a knock against Titanfall because other MIGHT BE, COULD BE, ARE SUPPOSEDLY GOING TO BE better games were NOT PLAYABLE but should have won. haha, that is so funny you think that way.

Talk about delusional, the gameplay vids, the descriptions of hands on from 95% of the sites who played it are loving the "feel" of the game, and YOU SAY, well some other non-playable game MIGHT be better. Yeah, OK maybe but call me when critics get their hands on it and most of them put that in print. Just watching your desperation is comical, I mean does it really hurt that bad?

Megaton4664d ago (Edited 4664d ago )

Butthurt? Delusional? It was one of my top 3 of E3, and I'll likely be buying it on PC (I say "likely" because it's unfortunately probably Origin-exclusive). Just saying, the mountain of awards is misleading. You should take a walk or something, bro. Cool off.

jetlian4664d ago

it wasnt the only game on the show floor otherwise e3 would have been very boring lol

-Foxtrot4664d ago

I believed him because I googled what he said and listened to the podcast myself.

Quit being such a baby

Awards shouldn't be just given to games on the show floor it should go to everything which is there. If it was an award for best PLAYED game then fair enough but when it's something like best looking game then I don't see the problem.

I am a huge fan of Mech based games and love the concepts I am seeing in this game. So excellent, this will be a day one buy when it releases.

Although the late 2000s Turok wasn't my favorite, I would love a new entry. Open world survival with shotguns and dinosaurs. Not sure how we'd get the fusion cannon, but that would be pretty sweet too.

MadLad1359d ago

Lol

All of these games are pretty much universally praised. Outside of Timeshift I literally own all of these.

Venoxn4g1358d ago (Edited 1358d ago )

XIII, The Darkness 2, Far Cry: Blood Dragon, Timesplitters: future perfect, Bulletstorm are awesome games

I played them all, they are all good in their own way
I used to be obsessed with FPS games

An ode to Titanfall: The last twitch shooter I'll probably ever enjoy

Windows Central: "Titanfall 1 is being sunset, taken off storefronts by EA. While the servers remain live for now, one has to wonder just how much time it has left. I look back and pay tribute to the last "twitch"-styled shooter I ever truly loved."
