Uncharted 4: Why Wasn't it at Gamescom?

IGN published an Video explaining why Uncharted 4 was not at Gamescom

deep_fried_bum_cake4673d ago

I don't want an Uncharted 4 (which I know isn't a popular opinion) because I think that 3 was a good stopping point before the series gets stale.

I want something new, something like the Last of Us which will make people say, it's not Uncharted but damn I want it.

It was fairly obvious that there wouldn't be a Naughty Dog announcement. Their last 2 games have been announced at the VGAs. I don't expect anything different this time.

FlameHawk4673d ago

No it would be to soon for TLOU 2, but not Uncharted 4.

blitz06234673d ago

VGAs. Just like U2 and U3

Who4673d ago

I have to agree with deep_fried. As much as I loved the first two UC's, the third felt a bit stale to me. It took me a while to finish the game because it felt much of the same.

Unless they improve UC (more open-worldish, better stealth mechanics, etc) I don't think they should do UC4.

TLOU was a nice change of pace, but still there isn't much too talk about the gameplay - very simplistic.

I guess with these games, its more about the story/adventure than gameplay which is cool, but it would be even better if they took the gameplay up a notch.

black0o4673d ago

they only showed the launch games ..except infamous, sony's setting on all their 1st studious ips

sony want to keep the hype train rolling ''my opinion

NateCole4673d ago

Honestly anything from them i will be happy with weather its another Uncharted or a new ip.

There is no question that Uncharted 4 will be a system seller for Sony so chances are it will be Uncharted 4 that they are working on now to help sell PS4's this early in its lifecycle.

I would also be super stoked if they introduce a new IP for the PS4. Anything they do is great.

mistertwoturbo4673d ago

Don't know about you guys, but I want an Uncharted 4. The Last of Us just didn't click with me. I want another tale with Nathan Drake with uber PS4 graphics.

Let Naughty Dog catch their breath. We don't want Uncharted to turn into the next Assassin's Creed.

Jughead34164673d ago

?? This is one of the best games in history. They haven't come close to launching a game every year like Assassin's Creed or COD. I think Uncharted 4 would sell systems even faster than they already are. I don't think a new one right now would be too soon. Not really disappointed that they didn't show it, but I would love it.

karl4673d ago

i agree we need one for the start of this generation ..

it would be nice they would take a stop after that though..
and maybe make TLOU2 since by then it would have been enought time

-Foxtrot4673d ago (Edited 4673d ago )

Assassins Creed comes out every year along with a ton of merchandise, novels, comics, spin off games etc

Uncharted 3 came out in 2011, if Uncharted 4 is revealed this year it won't come out until late 2014 or even early 2015. You would have at least 3-4 years between Uncharted 3 and Uncharted 4

I don't think it would be like AC at all

Aces174673d ago

How would it turn into AC? UC3 came out in 2011 and this would come out at best late 2014 if anything.

Ashunderfire864673d ago

The last Uncharted game came out back in 2011, so fall 2014 for Uncharted 4 sounds right.

Jughead34164673d ago

They still have the Tokyo Game Show and VGAs.

Pintheshadows4673d ago

Naughty Dogs domain seems to be the VGA's recently so I expect to see something there.

wishingW3L4673d ago

a western game announcement on TGS... PLS. lol

-Foxtrot4673d ago (Edited 4673d ago )

I know it was silly since it was most likely not true but I kind of wished Sony had bought back the rights to Crash Bandicoot and they ended the show with that. It would of been amazing

Anyway hopefully Uncharted 4 will be at the VGA's. Give me Uncharted 4 with a Drake and Elena themed quest to find some treasure (no lost cities this time) which expands on their relationship and the missing gaps from it along with an online mode LIKE Uncharted 2's and I'll be good :)

WorldGamer4673d ago

The Tokyo Game Show is right around the corner. Also, they just aided in sending off the PS3 with style with TLOU, they have earned a break in my book.

Let them take their time, then greatness will grace our screens when they are ready.

dcj05244673d ago

That was the first team thst did tlou. The second team has been hush-hush since 2011.

christian hour4673d ago

Naughty Dog created a second team specifically for TLOU, it's their first team we havent heard from since 2011 ;)

Ex-Naughty Dog Dev: Big Studios Are 'Forced' to Hire Like Factories

Former Naughty Dog artist Gabriel Betancourt explains why the "sweet spot" for game teams is under 200 people and how AAA "factories" kill creativity.

There’s definitely some truth to this. When teams get too large, coordination starts to outweigh creativity—layers of approval, risk aversion, and tight deadlines can turn bold ideas into “safe” ones. Keeping a team under ~200 people sounds ideal for maintaining clear communication and a shared vision. That said, massive AAA projects also come with huge technical demands and expectations, so scaling up isn’t always avoidable. The real challenge is figuring out how to keep that small-team creativity alive inside big studio structures.

DarXyde47d ago

More than that, it's logistically untenable. Inevitably, when teams get too large, how do you keep tabs on accountability? I suspect this massive team size is a consequence of the perfectionism streak Naughty Dog has.

I wish we could have so many people working on something and it turns out great because I'm all for collaboration in spirit - the problem is too many people as part of the larger team and smaller units. Suppose for example that you have too many people in the art department; you will very often come up against fiercely competing visions for how things should look. That competitive vision will cause friction between team members, team doesn't work as a unit, the back and forth can further delay parts that the other departments are waiting for, etc etc.

A 200-person team says, to me, that we need to scale back game development. Even if it means we go back to PS2 era costs and scale, why not? Those games are still great fun, the budgets were in check, and you could literally break the 200-man team into like 10 20-man teams working on different projects.

Neil Druckmann Reveals He’s Working on an Unannounced Game at Naughty Dog

Neil Druckmann, the creative director of The Last of Us, is working on a new, unannounced game at Naughty Dog.

RaidenBlack382d ago

I know they've expertise in third person games.
But given the lack there of in PS catalog, I'd want the other project to be a narrative first person ND game.
Look, there are lots of 3rd person Sony games in variety of flavors. And ND is already doing intergalactic. And since they're pretty expert at gameplay and tech wise in whatever they do, they can easily venture a new genre and ship a first person game/shooter.

VenomUK382d ago

Hopefully the lead character is a boss babe who will challenge the patriarchy.

RaidenBlack382d ago

So, judging from the dislikes, hardcore Sony fans here don't like first person games, anymore?

arkard382d ago

Let naughty dog do what they are great at, 3rd person games

crazyCoconuts382d ago

I don't really have a big opinion on first vs third person perspective. That's one of the least important things to me when rating how much I like a game

Flewid638382d ago

Sounds horrible. The downvotes are right on this one.

badz149382d ago

I actually hate 1st person. very hard to associate with a character you only see their hands most of the time.

OtterX382d ago

funny thing is with failures like Concord and soon to be Marathon, Factions could have been Sony's guaranteed huge success with a shooter! I don't ever play online shooters anymore, but I would have come out of shooter retirement for a new Factions game.

RaidenBlack381d ago (Edited 381d ago )

{ coming from the above thread }
So PS Fellas hate first person games now? (Understandable)
But praise Killzone and Resistance series, as well?
And hope for a return of first party first person games? ~ but from where? insomniac is deep in marvel territory, guerilla is deep in aloy territory ... suckerP are not as big to undertake that change + dedicated to Ghost series
The only options are ND and Santa Monica, who are rumoured to be involved in parallel projects. ~ so take your pick.
And the other 'new' studios at Sony are not that hot right now with knee deep in live service fiasco

...Way of the Warrior 2: Electric Boogaloo

Amplitude382d ago

It’d be cool if they bought the Parappa licence and made Parappa 3 that’d be the real good timeline

Wait I thought they cancelled a game? Or did they announce another project?

https://wccftech.com/naught...

pwnmaster3000383d ago (Edited 383d ago )

I’m assuming it’s the unannounced game in the title you posted.

“Naughty Dog Reportedly Canceled a Single Player Game This Year, But Another Unannounced Game Is Still in the Works“

Lightning77382d ago

OK I gotcha. That makes sense.

jznrpg382d ago

Devs cancel games all the time early stages if it doesn’t turn out the way they envisioned it. We just don’t hear about every one of them.

Notellin382d ago

Yeah only a narcissist like Druckmann would announce a game this early that has a 99% chance of being cancelled.

badz149382d ago

so a 2028 release at the soonest

Lightning77382d ago (Edited 382d ago )

Some speculate it could be Uncharted spin off. It's already 3 years in production so yeah 2028 maybe 2027 at the absolute earliest but most likely 28 release.

Also to add. kojimas next game that's not OD is said to be 5 to 6 years out for PS. That metal gear inspired game. These games are just too far off it seems.

pwnmaster3000383d ago

This dude is busy.
So who is running intergalactic?

Knushwood Butt383d ago

'We have several directors on Intergalactic. I work with two game directors: Matthew Gallant and Kurt Margenau, [and] I have a co-writer in Clair Carré.'

pwnmaster3000382d ago (Edited 382d ago )

Okay you got me, I skimmed the article and video .
Thanks lol

vTuro24382d ago

Cuckmann is going to be Naughty Dog's downfall.

382d ago
itBourne382d ago

Going to be? The damage is already done lol.

Flewid638382d ago

Sunlight is good for you, I promise. lol

vTuro24382d ago

Damage has been done but it's not too late yet if they dump him now. Probably won't happen though. It's sad, honestly. We'll see what happens after Intergalactic. That game is going to have a huge impact one way or another.

StormSnooper381d ago (Edited 381d ago )

Yes because they didn’t make some of the greatest games. Right, we all just agree to live in your fantasy from now on.

Flewid638382d ago

yall say that about ever developer and then they end up becoming more successful lol

mkis007382d ago

Downfall? If anything he is a huge reason they are on the map! A few apes don't like the material hasn't stopped his games from being massive hits.

DarXyde382d ago

I have grievances with Druckmann, but he does deserve some benefit of the doubt. He's been in crucial roles at the company through all of their successes.

Maybe wait and see?
