PS3 Error 80010514 explained

"The error in question is mainly seen within the first month of use, or to put it bluntly, it has the error right out of the box, however, we have seen this occur at almost a year into service as well. Our particular error occurred shortly after installing a new game we had purchased off the PlayStation Store.

The Error reads as follows:

"An error occurred during the start operation. 80010514"

Since this error occurred, we obviously contacted Sony Support. We were informed that the code is not common, and a simple reset of the system, and restoral of factory settings should do the trick. Unfortunately, after the restoral, the error still occurred. So, we dug a bit further, and this is what we found."

I don't understand why you feel the need to spam the site with those kind of comments, sonarus

Feels good to have a good ol relaible 60GB

Breakfast6635d ago

You said your xbox still hasnt broken....if that was me, i would feel like the luckiest man on earth.

Which would make me feel better than having a "good ol relaible 60GB"

iceman29296635d ago

ive my 360 for about a year, with solid usage, and i do leave it on overnight sometimes for downloads and whatnot. i've not had any issues yet. Hopefully im one of the 70 % (or 90% now i guess) that shouldnt have any issues ever.

tethered6635d ago

@ iceman
You don't need to leave the 360 on for downloads. You can turn it off and it will continue to download.

Just so you know.

Breakfast6635d ago (Edited 6635d ago )

I did, too. I downloaded and stuff. It lasted about an year and a half till it broke. Trust me...no one played more xbox then me.

gaffyh6635d ago

I don't know if it's just me, but I would like a Scandisk and defrag option on the XMB, it would really get rid of this problem. And who knows what kinda data is left on the HDD when you delete a game

An error occurred during the start operation. 80010514"

I think I have had this. I just did a hard reset (flipping the switch in the back) and it was fixed.

I remember getting alot of error messages with the Warhawk beta in summer of 07

DRUDOG6634d ago

I got this error within a month of getting the 60gb for xmas '06. Sent a message to Sony and got a quick reply. I say quick because it was the same day and I figured it would take a few to hear back from them. Anyhow, I believe that it was right after a firmware update and it only happened when I tried to load two different games (don't remember which). Other games loaded fine and usually I would just eject the game giving me trouble and try again until it worked (usually next try).

I never even responded to Sony since it "cleared" up on it's own. Can't remember if another firmware update came along soon after, but never had a problem since. It only happened 3 or 4 times altogether. I was pissed at first, but since it hasn't done it in over a year I'm not too worried about it happening anymore.

Time_Is_On_My_Side6635d ago (Edited 6635d ago )

I was going to write a blog about this but since this came out I don't think I have to. This error usually occurs right after you exit a game a couple of seconds later you sign out. I'm guessing since Sony doesn't handle everything the NAT (Network Address Translation) will determine what you can do. On XBOX Live NAT issues are almost eliminated since it's a Client server with sub-P2P servers.

In other words since you hold your own server your signal strength will determine what you can do. That's how I solved mine but the hard drive thing is new to me. There are three NAT types and it is usually determined by your signal strength. If you have a certain type like for example you can't do video chat.

To know your NAT type just do a signal test and at the end it'll tell you.

Proxy6635d ago (Edited 6635d ago )

NAT type has nothing to do with signal strength, and everything to do with the setup of your network.

I also disagree that having a higher signal strength would help reduce the likelihood of this error, the wireless protocols have systems in place to ensure the data is transfered unaltered.

Time_Is_On_My_Side6633d ago (Edited 6633d ago )

NAT can avoid certain protocols that's the whole point of the NAT system to let you know what might happen. Depending on where you place your router and you PlayStation 3, stuff like the microwaves can interfere.

So if your signal is very weak then when your signal starts to fluctuate due to obstacles, yes a stronger signal will help.

So if it's at 50% and starts to fluctuate you can get tapped out of a game due to that. If you have so much of a drop in signals lower than 50% when signing out your signal isn't strong enough.

It's like a cell phone signal if there is interference that will contribute to how your phone call experience will be. You're still able to call but you'll have a higher chance of dropping the call if your signal was 100% in strength.

Oom6635d ago

Its never happened to me or anyone else. These articles are just some 360 fanatics trying to find an RROD on the ps3 like with the blinking problem that never existed.

Please report this as fake.

steriotyp6635d ago

it is a Sony exclusive website. Make sure you think about it before you write it. We wouldn't want anyone sounding like a dweeb would we?

DevastationEve6635d ago

that's how you stick up for someone whose had a problem with his PS3? by pretending that it doesn't exist? that his complaint isn't real?sounds a little stupid to me.

ar6635d ago

Just because it hasn't happened to you doesn't mean it doesn't exists. I have a lot of friends that hasn't have their 360:s RROD on them. That doesn't make the issue non existent.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle42d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Final Fantasy VIII is great and you are always the first to defend it in the comments

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

And then MK1 killed it again.

PlayStation legend Shuhei Yoshida says Jim Ryan fired him because he didn't listen to him

Why did Sony push Shuhei Yoshida out of his role leading PlayStation's first-party games? He'd overseen some huge successes. Well, apparently, he didn't listen.

Yeah I can see that for sure. Shuhei Yoshida should have been in charge not Jim Ryan.

Cacabunga50d ago

It should be free highway for him now.. but Sony are too stupid to see this, especially that moron Hulst

S2Killinit50d ago (Edited 50d ago )

Wtf why all that anger. PlayStation is dominating on every level. Besides I think there is a little more to hiring a CEO than just who is available. Its not like its a athlete your team wants to buy.

neutralgamer199250d ago

S2Killinit

live service failures, chasing trends, closing studios. yes dominating

Cacabunga50d ago

Sony is Dominating because competition is not existing. Compared to previous gens this is the poorest in terms of software offerings.

Last gen we got Uncharted 4 Lost Legacy and TLOU2 from ND alone.

This is so far a remasters gen, with no competition to lift up the quality

1nsomniac49d ago (Edited 49d ago )

..."PlayStation is dominating on every level"....

...Really???

PlayStation are soon heading into a new generation in the not to distant future. They currently have the worst customer satisfaction they've ever sustained as a company. The company is heading for a huge crash while at the same time they'll need to be planning how they are going to try and win back that favour and the build up to their new releases.

Yes financially they're winning but they're going to have to ride out this complete public corporate disaster. No one has faith in the company or the product anymore. They've damaged their public image so much this generation. Greed can kill anyone.

medman49d ago

Hulst is a disaster......

He would've done the same thing and fire Jim Ryan and Shuhei would be the villain. Why?
Because Elite creates the narrative and distraction for gamers, users and citizens.

Outside_ofthe_Box50d ago

More confirmation that Jim Ryan is the culprit for what has happened to Sony. Hulst needs to go too. What sucks is that a lot of the good top heads at Sony are no longer there. I wish that guys that were forced out prematurely by Dumbo Jimbo like Shuhei and Layden came back.

robtion49d ago

Yep. Yoshida was responsible for bringing one of the best games of this generation to playstation (Stellar Blade). He is an actual gamer and is in touch with what gamers want (creative, fun games, not GaaS and agenda pushing). He also seems like a genuinely nice guy if you watch some interviews. Of course they got rid of him.

darthv7250d ago

Makes you wonder if MS even thought about hiring him after Phil and Sarah were leaving. He certainly couldn't make their situation any worse.

Agent7550d ago

Microflop. After Windows XP and Xbox 360, it all went floppy.

S2Killinit50d ago

Floppy 😆
No pun intended

badz14950d ago

Yoshida for President! Jim Ryan was and always be a hack! Sony should get Shu back

Lightning7750d ago

All the gamer/consumer lead heads are gone across PS and Xbox. shuhei gone phil's gone (questionable) but gone. The future of gaming is somewhat uncertain across the board.
