it's a nice idea and it worked during the PS2/PS3-era when AAA didn't cost hundreds of millions of dollars. smaller budgets and shorter development time left room for more creativity and more risk. a game didn't need to sell 4 million+ copies to break even. things are different now.

Twitter doesn't encompass the whole of social media, you can't talk about the power social media holds over the gaming industry and focus mostly on twitter.
Also the article assumes that it was social media feedback that influenced Microsoft's policies and not the way the market was looking in the pre order sales at the time. No matter who says what we will never know what influenced microsoft to reverse its policies but I'm sure it was a fiscally based move.
