while what you stated is very valid, and while i agree with what you stated, I do feel its not that cut an dry anymore about the mobile market and the software that is being made for it. due to the very fact that developer's and publisher's are no longer just looking at the smart devices as lesser platforms to put games on now.

what you in effect just said, is why would rockstar games make 3 of their past game console games released on a platform like smart Mobile devices is if as you said.

to cash in ? you bet, but it's more than just cashing in now, there is development tool's and APi's made from the big publisher's that are putting their game engines not just a stripped out ver. but the full game engine for smart devices.

that is what is and has changed when big Developing Game publisher's are no longer ignoring the smart device platform, than you know there has been a disruption.

but I think that is what you are Missing, the point they are for the majority not going to be designed right now for that to be as you say "Hold a candle" but there are more and more of them that are being made now that is just the same or maybe even a better experience due to the fact that even with dedicated Game handhelds the size of the control's are still cramped vs a full size game pad being hooked upto a smartphone or Tablet, also most smartphone's and tablets have HDMI out.

Thus even when you hook it upto the TV the output through to your TV is 720p or even 1080p Even though the game is older the fact of the matter is the hardware in smartphones and tablets are no longer just simple silicon designed devices anymore. just like dedicated game handhelds are no simple silicon designed devices.

The point being even the iPod touch or the iPhone 4 has even better hardware in those devices than even the 3DS! and the 3DS is a fantastic handheld. but it does not change the fact that when a general computing device like the smart device is outperforming in a dedicated system at its own game pun intended, than that's saying something. the Smart devices are like the PC platform is to game console's. As they are to Mobile devices, because the best example is the chips they use in them is the very same Arm Cortex chip sets as what you run in dedicated game handheld game console's they are all using Arm Core processor's.

that is just the truth of the matter, the PSVita is very robust but the Nvidia Shield is even more robust than the PSVita, and in the next few months that again will be dwarfed by yet another devices over the Nvidia shield.

That's the thing, they really are not meant to replace, they are in a designed market as a communication device first, but just like the PC overlap the game console market with functions like steam, so do the smartphone's and Tablets overlap the dedicated mobile handheld game system market.

this very disruption also happened to the dedicated PDA market, Now the PDA has not gone completely away, that's what most of the time happens with Disrupting technology, its most of the time indirect results, not outright challenge. calling it an outright challenge is kinda moot because its always a communication device with the smartphone first before a general computing device 2nd.

Its never going to be a 1st priority Game system dedicated to gaming 1st over being a communication device. as for tablets again, they are not designed outright as a mobile game system 1st priority, exceptions to this rule are like the WikiPad but even then the OS level will play are big part along with entry point price market share advancement viability to overcome from the will established market presence like Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft. and currently both Microsoft and sony already offer's Tablets of their own, really good one's at that.

You obviously didn't grow up when that's how all games were, you lost your 3 lives and BAM you restarted the game!

On consoles and arcades, we didn't always have memory cards in gaming you know?
