Interview: Director Michel Ancel talks Rayman Legends

GameZone: "Ubisoft recently held a Rayman Legends press event in San Francisco. I had the opportunity to speak with Michel Ancel, iconic creator of the Rayman franchise and director of the upcoming entry in the series. The developer discussed the game, addressed the extensive amounts of content, and explained why he's excited about the next generation of consoles. He also talked about the role that music plays in the game, the differences between the Wii U version compared to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions, and more."

GZ: This is probably the most important question I have to ask: Can Rayman kick Mario's ass?

MA: Uh, maybe we'll have the answer very soon. (laughs)

is he implying Rayman in Smash or Legends being better than 3D World we will find next time!

CaptainYesterday4690d ago

I would be really surprised if Rayman was not in Smash Bros, if he's not that would really suck he would be a great addition.

dark-hollow4690d ago

I don't think rayman is that much associated with Nintendo's history.

Phil324690d ago

Really? All of the main Rayman games have released on Nintendo platforms, Raving Rabbids did best on Nintendo platforms, don't know if the Wii version of Origins sold best.

It's not out of the realm of possibility, but I don't see Rayman's inclusion in Smash Bros. happening.

Little Big Planet, lol. No.

paddy95461d ago

LBP3 and rayman legends are the best here.

jznrpg460d ago

Puppeteer is really good. Nobody played it because it came out right before PS4 came out. When I went to pick up Puppeteer from GameStop some people were trading in their old consoles for PS4 preorder.

Lesson learned - Don't work with Ubi

Blaze929535d ago

Ehhh, the same one that was making team members cry and him calling them worthless? Don't work with Ancel

isarai536d ago

Was wondering what happened to this game, seems interesting but whateves 🤷‍♂️

TheCaptainKuchiki535d ago (Edited 535d ago )

I was so disappointed that this game died.
But Ancel himself isn't entirely clean....
He has an habit of not finishing games.

RaiderNation535d ago

Man there's quite a long line forming of canceled/dormant 3rd party projects for PlayStation that never came out...

Agent
Deep Down
Wild
Little Devil Inside
Pragmata
Silent Hills

And I know there's more!

Teams that score the most goals also miss the most shots.

Tacoboto535d ago

That's just how a business person massages "inefficiency" to their boss.

Gameseeker_Frampt535d ago (Edited 535d ago )

"Teams that score the most goals also miss the most shots."

That is not how any of that works, but nice attempt at deflecting. In your mind, the Portland Trail Blazers must be an amazing team this year since they hold 3 of the top 5 spots for most shots missed in a game.

thorstein535d ago (Edited 535d ago )

Last night the Toronto Maple Leafs took 14 shots and the NJ Devils took 38.

Toronto won 2-1 proving that the quality of shots is far more important than the quantity.

Lol depends on what sport I guess. Im Football/Soccer, its true.

Knushwood Butt535d ago

It's better to try and fail than not try at all.

That's a nice one, but if you work for a crappy company then;

It's better to try and fail than not try at all.
However, if you fail, expect a witch-hunt and then to be thrown under the bus. Oh, and leadership isn't going to do anything to try and address the root-causes of the issues, as they'll be too busy trying to tick boxes, or with the next witch-hunt, which will come along very soon.

S2Killinit534d ago (Edited 534d ago )

Im sure none of you believe Sony is not about quality. Pretty sure their domination speaks for the quality of their products.

I don't know about the others but i have hope for Little Devil. It'll still come

Notellin535d ago

Knights of the Old Republic remake should have been on this list.

Agent75475d ago

You look at game pricing this gen, some of these games will flop. £70 for PS5 games, Sony raised the price of PS4 games, all these years on, the PS4 is still out there, PS5 was released too early and now we're soon heading for PS6. It staggers me that Sony and Microsoft can't see that gaming is heading for a crash.

I was really stoked for this. I liked that giant Snake-lady god or whatever it was. It looked like it had some great art direction.

Will There Ever Be A New Rayman Game?

Ubisoft barely have a leg to stand on lately, so do they need to crack open the vaults and return platforming royalty to glory for some goodwill?

We need Rayman 4, they could make a great platformer game if they wanted. With the open hub levels and the like.

Better than relying on Rabbids and Assassins Creed all the time

Profchaos822d ago

Yeah agree id love a Rayman 2 style 3d platform game over another 2d platformer I know people loved legends but it never gelled with me same as Rayman 1 back in the day on PS it just felt like a average platformer with sonic and Mario offering something better on what was then last gen hardware

Terry_B822d ago

Yes..but I am sure it won't be the Rayman game fans want. Not from the company that is Ubisoft today.

mastershredder822d ago (Edited 822d ago )

Ancel is retired from games. His hoodlum/rabbid team are doing their own thing. It would not be the same if Ubisoft did.

Profchaos822d ago

Probably far more profitable to make low effort Rabbids games aimed at kids over a next Rayman

Chocoburger822d ago

Experience points, skill trees to fill up, level gating, endless menial tasks and side quests, constantly scrounging for resources. Always having to upgrade your gear. A.KA. "The Ubisoft effect".

No thanks, don't ruin Rayman's legacy.

Profchaos822d ago

Sure there will be it'll launch right alongside the next splinter cell
