Dota 2: 5 Tips to Improve

So, Dota 2 officially left beta a few weeks back which means that now everyone can give it a try since it’s free to play on Steam. All the reviews were mostly very positive about the game (even our own review, which you should read!), but all said the same thing: it’s very difficult to get into and understand what to do. Being an experienced Dota 2 player, here are my top 10 tips to helping you improve and enjoy the game more!

i downloaded the game, but i'm wary about playing it. aside from hearing stories about constant verbal harassment from elitist players, i've also heard it could take a couple hundred hours just to have a basic understanding of how to play.

i play video games to have fun (and depending on the game, for a challenge), not to turn them into a second job with a bunch of drill sergeants telling me how worthless and stupid i am at the game. lol.

still, though, i've heard that it can be loads of fun once you get past the insane learning curve and rough community. that's the only reason i'm even considering it.

You WILL have fun. And you WON'T be matched with "elite" players unless you yourself earn a very high matchmaking bracket filter. The name calling and the like is very prevelant- if you choose not to mute and/or report the offensive person.

The time it takes to learn the game and each character is steep. But you will only be placed with others in your skill bracket so you will be learning with others who are learning.

I'll play it with ya man, I'm fairly experienced and a pretty good tutor.

If you're worried about the learning curve maybe you should start with League of Legends as it's easier to learn to play and once you're comfortable you can move onto the more difficult DOTA2.

There was a really nice group set up for people who just wanted to play and have fun on one of the EU servers. I'm guessing there are similar groups of people who play DOTA2 together without the worry of pissing off others when they do something wrong.

What is the point past just random games ?

What do I have to earn or strive for ?

Are their Teams and Leagues and stuff or what ?

I had it downloaded but recently deleted it the other day and was thinking about re-downloading it to play again.

Tried LoL for about 20 matches/Games but I don't really like many of the Heroes/Champions.

Should I give Dota2 another go ?

Deathdeliverer4680d ago

@Matt dude that's league of legends you are thinking of. Smurf accounts everywhere and plenty of people trying to control your every move and purchase. Not that League is bad but I have been on Dota 2 for a long time now and I RARELY come across the troll fest that is League. You will get a the occasional Russian calling you a noob in broken English over the speaker at higher lvls though lol. As much as I love league, the trolling community never lets up.

theres no last hitting in LoL? and whats that about unlimited teleports to base.

edit: unlimited teleports to base..what i would give to have that right off the bat in dota.

JsonHenry4682d ago

I think he means there is no last hit denying in LoL. In other words- you can't hit your own creeps/towers to deny the enemy the money/full XP they would get for last hitting it themselves.

JsonHenry4681d ago

^^ Exactly! That is why once I got an invite to the Dota2 beta I deleted LoL off of my system. LoL is a decent game. But it plays (and looks) like an easy mode version of DotA1&2.

1 and 2 should be don't go past the river alone and always pay attention to MIA calls.

I preferI LoL. I don't like how Dota centers on inventory and denial, while lol is focused on the champions.

Sorry, couldn't hear you while you're bowing your head on your knees and delisting non-adult games that your master deemed they didn't like.

Christopher251d ago

Pretty much zero choice for them here. Do you want them to not be able to sell to a huge portion of the market because multiple sources of online payment deny them use?

thorstein251d ago

I understand what you're saying. There are alternatives to Mastercard.

But none of that negates what he did. Sure there's pressure, but he bent the knee.

Alos88251d ago

Man he's really lost a ton of weight, good on him.

The guy is a videogame slumlord. Looks like is on Ozempic.

Michiel1989250d ago

if someone isn't terminally online on a gaming forum talking out of his ass like you are, you might actually get shit done in real life.

anast250d ago

I'm good here boss. I can post a comment and do other things. I' m surprised you haven't figured that out yet.

Michiel1989250d ago

casually making fun of someone's appearance while you're doing other things. What a class act.

Yes, I'm sure the billionaire white male owner of the company who can close anyone's account really feels threatened.

Next tell me how brave Elon Musk is because he had to deal with someone telling him the Nazi's were actually the bad guys.

Christopher250d ago

Most people in power are narcissists who actually can't deal with this sort of thing like a normal person, let alone many gamers can't deal with it either. Either way, this is just a slice of life look at how even Gabe sucks at games and puts up with people who don't know how to be respectful to others.

AuraAbjure250d ago (Edited 250d ago )

That is sad to think you believe most people in power are significantly flawed in some way. In theory, the strongest and most successful of us are to be admired as inspirations rather than perceived as majorly flawed i.e. "narcissistic."

Christopher250d ago

***That is sad to think you believe most people in power are significantly flawed in some way.***

Common psychological tendencies. It's not sad, just science. And note that 'in power' means CEOs and the like, not just politicians.

Looks like Michael Douglas now...weird
