1UP Previews Speed Racer

1UP writes: "Don't call it a cash-in -- at least not yet. While Warner Bros. Interactive has slyly timed the Speed Racer videogame to launch on Wii alongside the upcoming Wachowski Brothers-directed film (with a PS2 port planned to coincide with the DVD release this fall), there are some hopeful signs that they're taking this seriously. Most importantly, the publisher has enlisted the development skills of Sidhe Interactive, the guys who created the completely awesome puzzle/racer GripShift. So these guys clearly know how to pull off blazing speed on the virtual race track, but can they handle doing so in the context of the Speed Racer license? We've rounded up what meager information on the game has been released so you can decide for yourself".

With a slick 3D engine and a fluidity that stays locked to 60 frames per second, Speed proves an excellent substitute for F-Zero -- at least, that is, until Nintendo finally gets around to releasing the real thing.

Gameplanet: Speed Racer Review

Many of you will remember playing racing games like Gran Turisimo, coming back time and time again to gain increasingly difficult licences. Speed Racer had potential to be a thrilling racing title but shoots itself in the foot with sloppy design and a cringe inducing game engine. The dated multiplayer options do little to rectify the situation, leaving this title gathering dust on my shelf.

Unless you're a massive Speed Racer fan, avoid.
