Never doubted my purchase back then and won't now. All these updates make my PS3 feel brand new all over again. :) It was worth every penny and the 10 hours standing in line, in cold weather.

Yeah I got the 60 gig in Feb 07. It was in Canada and the province I,m in had 15% sales tax on top of it. It cost me $797. Then when I hooked it up to my new HDTV the first game I played was Oblivion. I jusy went WOW this is so worth it.

I got my 60Gb cheap in June of last year (2 months after European release). Was £600 I got mine for £280 brand new with 3 games :D

This news is good, it certainly doesn't make me regret buying a 60gig early, in fact it makes me wonder what's next for the PS3? It's just always getting better and better!

I'm not too fussed about them pushing back Home. Just release it when it's ready, don't push out a bug ridden thing just to attract sales.

Fortunately, there's not even remotely any sign of that happening yet...even with the week-long Folding@home marathons having occurred over the past year-and-a-half.

Everytime I pop in a Bluray movie I justified my purchase, that alone is freaking amazing nevermind the gaming aspect. In terms of value alone the PS3 totally rocks. I can't even recall the last time I purchased and piece of electronic with this much entertainment value.

It probably will. Curious whether the next xbox will have directx 10 even though OpenGL just kicks the living crap out of it and major companies except them have become part of Khronos Group which means they support OpenGL hahahahahaha.

I can see that happening eventually, when the price of the system has been reduced a bit more.
It's only a firmware update so it is very possible, but it would piss of a lot of people who purchased the 80Gig lol.

From what I have heard, and dont quote me on this, its a problem emulating the Emotion engine and the graphics processor at the same time without getting glitches. I think sony are modifying the roms for the ps2 games that are being put on the PSstore so that they run native on the ps3's architecture. So I dont know if we will ever see full BC on the 40 and 60 GB (aust version)models. I read somewhere that Sony are just going to try and build a very large collection of downloadable ps2 games on the PSStore. Again, I could be wrong.

i think the max space a ps2 game could take up is 4.7gb? but even the first ps2 games were on cds still. im sure they could compress the games like crazy now. id say about a gb would be a ps2 game on the psn, if it ever came.

i like scott steinberg! its quite funny how hes not the most diplomatic guy ever. in that one interview i saw with him he was like playstation kicks a$$ (well he didnt say that but that was his gist) which is kinda cool. i hate it when pr guys go "we think the competition is really good but....". Its better imo when they go "we're the best and we aim to prove it"

I agree i dont like people who are overly arrogant but what i meant was i prefer someone who has a lot of enthusiasm and belief in the product the are backing rather than some mcdonald worker style guy (no offence to anyone who works in mcdonald btw). someone who wont just say "were the best" (for example) but someone who has full confidence that they can back this up. im not saying scott steinberg said sony where the best but i think he has a lot of belief in his work or at least thats the way it comes across...

Honestly a lot of this stuff is just to make people think they need something. If I want a movie, game or music I'll spend my money on the actual physical media. I have yet to see these great digital distribution deals I've been hearing on, and on about. It's either been the exact same price or in most cases for games at least even more money, but what I lose is the physical product, and HDD space, and I still have to wait for the download. I could see this being convenient if you lived in the woods, but thats about it.

Plus I really don't get this home business. Someone please explain why this is a good idea, and not a complete waste of time. I mean I consider myself a tec head/hardcore gamer, but this is just plain nerdy as hell.

I wish they would just stick to basics till we're fully ready for these extra features that frankly right now we don't need.

P.S. Don't take this as a rant against PS because I love my ps3.

actually HOME has the ability to be very cool. It is somewhat about selling stuff but its also about gaming rooms for games like Warhawk, R2, COD, Kz2, and so on. If you can do it in a 3-d environment you could do it in HOME.

If you havent read what they are planning to do with Warhawk, Resistance, and Uncharted then go out and read the articles. They show some of the promise of HOME.

Personally I could care less about talking to strangers and other retards. I dont want to buy stuff but I do want things that will enhance my gaming experience.

For example: Warhawk

They will have a home space where you can go and meet up with your clan. In a private room they are going to have "to scale models" of all of the maps where you can meet up move guys, move machines around, and go over strategy and once you have gone over what you want to do you can launch straight into the game.

For Resistance: you can meet up with your clan or your friends and go over strategy and launch straight into actual MP maps from HOME but it wont actually be on servers so to speak. They will be "practice maps". Go in there work on strategy and launch into the game. There will also be a sort of museaum for "resistance" where you can go and learn more about the SP experience if you want to. Such as radio communications that you cant hear anyplace else and so on and so forth.

Just a few examples of some pretty neat stuff.

It brings in an Accomplishment system that's like XBL's system, only you actually get something for Home (I think this is what they were saying) when you do certain things in a game.

That alone should be enough. The PS3 will get an accomplishment system when Home comes.

I don't care for achievements since they're completely pointless. As for the rooms I guess they could be cool, but right now they're sounding a lot like what's possible in unranked matches. I guess we'll just have to wait, and see exactly what they do with them, but I don't want to be walking around all over the place to get into one. Maybe there is a bus system with instant access.

Don't count on it. I can't count how many times they keep saying "stay tuned." Sony's murdering the games lineup for this year on any console, but I honestly can't trust that they're actually going to deliver on these promises.

In-game XMB. Movie download service. More PS1 games on the store. PS2 games on the Store. You guys can stay tuned, but I'm sick of waiting on these software updates Sony will never deliver. They will run the show with their games lineup this year, but firmware updates...??? Stay tuned.

okay sure so you don't trust sony anymore, well? i don't trust MS either and this is not to start a war or something, but look MS have said that the ring problem has been fixed so far im still finding new reports on these problems, the other thing here is where are the rewards system they promise?

so...you see every company has its share of fall backs, so far in 08 sony hasn't been delivering as fast as you've probably have hoped, but they are slowly doing so. look as far as games go MGS4 is going to release on the 12th of june, and GT5pro is already out in both japan and Europe.

on the update side of things they did say we were getting BD-live this year and as far as im concern my 60gb ps3 has been updated with this feature and everything else they made mention off, they did say that they were releasing the dualshock 3 this year, go ahead and call your local gamestop, im pretty sure they have plenty in stock.

so..so far sony has been doing what they said they were going to do. do i believe everything they say? no.

but for the most part 08 isn't really disappointing me at all. im currently enjoying MLB 08 the show and uncharted, by the 17th of this month im pretty sure the new store will be out and with it so will some new and awaited content to compliment the release, i mean there has been several pictures on the web so yeah i know thats coming, and they did say there wont be any new content until the store updates this further proves they aren't lying ,so.. i know you're the i want it now type and feel this way because you feel desperate.

but i always say good things come to those who wait, or its better late than never.

home to me feels like a project with huge ambitions behind it, so.. personally i don't see this coming anytime soon. but as long as they deliver elsewhere within the 2.4 fw update, and socom at the fall than im good.

Listen to the amount of lies that MS said. They really dropped the ball when they talked about GTA4, they dropped the ball about the RRoD, they dropped the ball with trying to fix said issue, they dropped the ball with hiding why they are behind the PS3 in sales right now.

Right now MS is in a bit of a talespin. They should start pushing their other games that are coming out this year and stop being so dependent on GTA4.

As for Sony, most of the stuff that we know is coming in 08 have release dates now (MGS4, for instance), so that can't exactly be written off.

I dont care how long it takes for quality titles to come up, Because i dont have to worry about the life of the console I'll be playing them on. I purchased another console, lets call it Console X, in anticipation of a certain fps, lets call it game H, and had console X seize up and die on me about 2 months before Game H hit shelves. Frankly i am pretty bloody confident that Console Y is going to last until MGS4, Haze, LBP, GT5, KillZone, Resistance, Final Fantasy, 8 days, etc etc are out.

Oh and we have had 2 firmware updates in like the last fortnight.

im sorry my friend but the above just sounds to me like pure pr talk to me, tell me how do you set the bar so high on something you have only had about 1200 people test? this is an application that i see hundreds of thousands if not millions use or at least make us of every now and than.

look the reality here is both COD4 and halo 3 didn't have those betas running a month or two before the games released than those games would still have major problems.

the betas are for that, for the feedback, this information is than used to fix and further tweak and improvise a product before the final product even gets approve. im telling you right now sony will have many issues with this application if they don't let the public flood the gates and give em a hand they wont know exactly what the problems awaiting them are going to be, you know slowdowns, freeze-ups graphical tear. slow connection, all kinds of glitches, this is why big projects like call of duty and halo 3 have betas, i don't think sony is too kind of betas, they are more secretive with their projects, yeah sure you don't need betas for hardware and they sony are good at making and crafting some of the worlds best machines, but software is a different ball game, and my friend believe it or not if home is to be successful they are going to need a beta.

heck even warhawk had a beta c'mon sony get your act together.

Sony has Set the bar for online 3d world communities ran on a console. There is 0 competition though, so that tarnishes the claim a little bit.

As far as an Open beta.

I remember wanting in on the home beta from what I saw a year or so ago. Looking back now, it looked like utter garbage. Compared to what it is today, it seems phenomenal. I think the small group of beta testers are doing their due diligence to get the basic interface/interactions keyed in. I'd be thinking differently if we have seen no progress being made, but Home looks great. I'll gladly help sony test out their Server capacity when they finally offer it to everyone. But until then, it seems that the closed beta isn't detrimental to the progress of home.

I think that Sony realizes how many people are paying attention to PSN and how Xbox Live is the reason that so many people buy Xbox 360's. They are having Steinberg step forward and pumping up the image of PSN so that the media and consumers know that PSN is still on track to bring real competition to Xbox Live.

They should bloody unify the U.S., Europe/Australian store into one. Us Aussies still can't get Castlevania and the such off our store, and the dumb arse credit card U.S. address malarky is a joke. Just get rid of the whole "have to have a U.S. address credit card" to buy off U.S. store attitude. Sony is losing money by doing it this way. Things I see come up on the U.S. store now that I can't buy, may get overlooked when we finally get them on our store, due to all the other things we may wany, eg, Socom, Wipeout HD, COD4 maps,Warhawk maps. Sony are kind of limiting their sales potential in this regard. I guess I should be happy they are obviously trying to deter me from impulse buys. So kind of them to put me, before their profits...LOL.

Sony is Dominating because competition is not existing. Compared to previous gens this is the poorest in terms of software offerings.

Last gen we got Uncharted 4 Lost Legacy and TLOU2 from ND alone.

This is so far a remasters gen, with no competition to lift up the quality

PlayStation are soon heading into a new generation in the not to distant future. They currently have the worst customer satisfaction they've ever sustained as a company. The company is heading for a huge crash while at the same time they'll need to be planning how they are going to try and win back that favour and the build up to their new releases.

Yes financially they're winning but they're going to have to ride out this complete public corporate disaster. No one has faith in the company or the product anymore. They've damaged their public image so much this generation. Greed can kill anyone.

More confirmation that Jim Ryan is the culprit for what has happened to Sony. Hulst needs to go too. What sucks is that a lot of the good top heads at Sony are no longer there. I wish that guys that were forced out prematurely by Dumbo Jimbo like Shuhei and Layden came back.

Yep. Yoshida was responsible for bringing one of the best games of this generation to playstation (Stellar Blade). He is an actual gamer and is in touch with what gamers want (creative, fun games, not GaaS and agenda pushing). He also seems like a genuinely nice guy if you watch some interviews. Of course they got rid of him.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.

I hope going forward, we will see a return to form.
