Well, don't hold your breath. In an interview in this week's copy of MCV, the game's producer Naoki Yoshida, defended the game's need for regular income.
Today, Square Enix revealed several details of "Evercold", the next expansion coming for its popular MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV.
Interesting. I will try the base game free trial when it comes out. I heard you can try the it as long as you want with Lvl 70 cap.

Square Enix has announced a new crossover with the Evangelion will be coming to Final Fantasy XIV in the form of a new Alliance Raid.

because they don't have regular income.
Plus, they need Money to make Kingdom Hearts 3.
I fully defend games like FF14 having a sub.
1. It keeps gil/material mining down lower
2. Keeps out the rifraf who can't afford the game, or borrow mommy/daddies credit card
3. Allows for long term support
every game that is f2p, or was b2p/p2p and now f2p has very limited new content if any at all. This is because they don't need the old gamer, they draw in a new crowd every couple of weeks and have them pay for goodies to level faster, then they get to the end and find there isn't squat to do.
If it's a good game and worth the subscription, then I don't see the problem.
There are plenty of games that started out as being P2P, but ended up being F2P. Some MMO's are good, but maybe not good enough to be P2P.
I hope this game is good. I was in the original Beta and got the CE of the original game, so I had early access and the game was just boring. They didn't really change anything from Beta to Retail.
I played a bit of the Beta of ARR and it's a lot better.
Just give it time. It will go F2P very soon.
"he fails to mention that Blizzard have lost millions of subscribers recently"
As if as a f2p the same wouldnt happen over years . After that many years the novelty effects wears off that's all .
You dont see WoW making a switch to f2p yet
