Is The Elder Scrolls Online Launching Before MMO Technology Is Ready?

There’s a pattern with The Elder Scrolls Online that has been broken. Sure the game has been in development for some time but with previous Elder Scrolls games the successor was often in the planning stages before its predecessor was released and there has been a minimum of 4 years between games. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was only released 2 years ago and although it’s still incredibly popular today, it’s still a far smaller window between releases than we saw previously.

Wth is MMM "Technology"?

Second, yeah their spending less time on Elder Scrolls Online than most other mmo's spend making their games, but maybe Bethesda is using the same engine as Skyrim (or an improved/modded version) to cut down on time. Time spent focusing on the newer elements such as online component, balancing classes, missions, etc.

MMO Technology.. :D

I think I recall an announcement before release stating they were using the same engine featured in Star Wars: The Old Republic.

CaptainCamper you are so misinformed its sad. Why is it so hard for you to understand that Bethesda Game Studios(the people who made Skyrim) are not working on this game at all, they have nothing to do with it. Zenimax Online Studios are the developers making this game and they have been working on Elder Scrolls online since the studio formed in 2007, not since a completely different studio made Skyrim. And they are not using the same engine as used in SWTOR or in Skyrim. They only used the SWTOR engine as a test engine to get a template or layout of the game and then they switched to an engine that they created for the game. I thought most of this was explained to you in the last misinformed article you through together about ESO, but I guess not. And wtf is MMO technology...?

Squeeze, please tell me where in that article I state anything you just said? You already moaned about all of that in my previous article.

The HeroEngine, the one designed by Zenimax, has been used throughout development. It was also used in SWTOR.

Your comment makes little sense. Thousands of games use the Unreal Engine, is the engine identical in each and every one? No. The entire point of a decent game engine is the ability to adapt, improve and enhance features over time. Valve have shown this time after time with the Source Engine.

If I have to explain the individual leaps in the technology supporting MMO games today, it's you that's misinformed.

Mainsqueeze4690d ago (Edited 4690d ago )

I didn't bother to read your article because the description in the headline was so inaccurate it was laughable.

Elder Scrolls online and Zenimax are not using any form of the HeroEngine for any of the betas or on the final product, so you are wrong again, how unsurprising.

And yes I did tell you about the difference between Zenimax and Bethesda in your previous article, but you still, for some reason, don't understand the difference.

And if you can't explain wtf MMO technology is why the hell should anyone else have to guess wtf u are talking about?

I've felt from day one this was just a cash in on skyrim. I'm not saying it will be but that was my feeling when it was announced. I just dont see how this being an MMO can possibly top the solo experience from the actual games.

XtraTrstrL4691d ago

MMO Technology, hehe, dude is making up his own terms.

Brucis4691d ago

Because it's not the same people, that's why there's a smaller window between releases.

mo2414691d ago (Edited 4691d ago )

'no technologycal expertise' then shut the fuck up about.
also talking about the time gap between games, it's made by a whole different studio. And when they release the game in spring 2014, they have been working on it for 7 years.
