Why One Console May Be Enough

Sometimes buying a new console requires you to take a new lease on life.

With a flurry of new entertainment boxes making their way into our living rooms this coming holiday season, it’s awful difficult to believe that a lot of young game-enthusiasts will have enough dough to throw down close to $1000 for these two pieces of hardware.

nice article....my plans are the same. I always get them all and I plan on doing this next gen. but ps4 will be the first because it appeals to me and what I want in a system more than xb1. I am still weary about ms next console because they seem confused and willing to put themselves first and buying customers last. I don't trust them like i did with the 360...I suffered from 2rrod within 2.5 years....yes ive suffered feom 2 failed ps3 1 ylod and recently a failed blu ray reader. but it was over a 7 year period.
sony being a hardware company and ms a software company is highly the reason sony will win in hardware durability.BUT what won me over to ps4 being my first console is the price, and the customer love sony is bringing lately in ps+ and the no drm restricting bs.....I know ms dropped the drm but simply because sony didnt do it. if sony did the same we would be looking at a very restricted future...and I applaud them for giving gamers what they wanted. .....that and the love they are giving indies....my first choice was simple....but thats me ...ms fans who are getting xb1 game on fellow gamers no judgment here. ill wait a year or so to see if ms does another 180 or their hardware is stable enough.

One console can be enough. One console technically is enough.

Its only a problem when you talk crap about the other console, and go on, and on, how you hate it. That's the problem.

Hicken4665d ago

I never see such things written about car enthusiasts. Somebody prefers BMW to Mercedes and goes to the same level of extremes as fanboys in gaming, but they don't get subjected to the same negative treatment as in gaming. Fanbases of teams in various sports go to even further extremes, including getting into fistfights. But their passion is appreciated, rather than condemned(except for when they hurt people).

So why is it gaming fans can't do the same without being called immature and other such things? Lakers fans talk up their team and nobody hates them for it, because they understand it's a part of the culture... or they hate them for it and STILL understand that it's a part of the culture. They can trash talk the Clippers and Celtics and Knicks and whoever else, and it's just part of how things are done.

But not in gaming, oh, no.

Why is that?

Kingthrash3604665d ago

I never said I hate it ....smh I why would I buy something I hate? I went on to why it wasnt my first choice because nowdays its hard to separate fanboy bs and real gamer talk....smh ....mabad I shouldn't have tried. this is exactly what I mean by the bad state of the gaming community.

nukeitall4665d ago

@Hicken:

So if I get this right, you are actually promoting this immature behavior?

I don't get why people have to constantly feel the need to share that whatever they picked is better than others. It gets tiring, because you know what I like my choices, and don't need others to make it for me, nor do I need them to blast me with their unwanted opinion.

However, I'm sure somebody will be glad to follow you around and give you the same treatment.

I won't, I have games to play!

AngelicIceDiamond4665d ago

Competition is always better. But the gaming community has a hard time seeing that for some reason.

This isn't the 90's or early 00's where one console reigned supreme(And yes those were the great and simple days of gaming when I was just a little kid). This generation of gaming today, variety and stiff competition dominates.

SilentNegotiator4665d ago (Edited 4665d ago )

That's nice.

But this article is about individual gamers only needing one console. Not the entire industry.

Try reading.

I wouldn't say that. PS2 domination was one of the best eras in gaming.

nukeitall4665d ago

@Odin666:

"I wouldn't say that. PS2 domination was one of the best eras in gaming."

but the industry would be stagnant if that trajectory would be follow.

History shows competition from MS forced Sony to:

a) implement online play and push their network capability to compete with Xbox Live.

b) implement trophies and trophy cards

c) add media apps like Netflix

d) adding party chat/cross chat into PS Vita and now PS4

e) introduce PSN+ to compete with XBL Gold

... and the list goes on and on.

You just didn't know what you were missing during PS2 era. For all we know there could have been some great things coming from Dreamcast.

I actually plan on grabbing all 3 this gen. I don't plan on missing out on anything.
PS4 will be my first priority. I'll probably get the One after looking at some of the reception and seeing if it is worth my money and I'll get the WiiU when some more games come out for it.

Dunpeal4665d ago

I am the judge of what is enough for me and yes one console is enough for me. PS4 for me thanks

Gamers_United4665d ago (Edited 4665d ago )

Get rid off PS4 and I will be happy with one console which is Xbox One

thetruthx14665d ago (Edited 4665d ago )

I'm getting xbox one because the games appeal to me even the games that didn't show gameplay made me want them because of the developer's previous products or just the trailer and knowing the genre. E3 was sooo impressive: Ryse, Dead Rising 3, Quantum Break, Halo 5, Black Tusk game, Killer Instinct, Sunset Overdrive, Titanfall, D4, Crimson Dragon, Project Spark. Wow Microsoft great lineup.

RiPPn4665d ago

Ryse, Dead Rising 3: Did not look great at e3, will need reviews before they can be considered impressive.

Quantum Break, Halo 5, Black Tusk game, Sunset Overdrive: will likely not be here within a year.

Titanfall, Project Spark: Available on PC.

Wow Microsoft... just wow.

VforVideogames4665d ago (Edited 4665d ago )

Ill take any of those games over any ps4 game, it seems that ps4 is just a ps3.1 same games over and over. no innovation just pretty graphics.

AngelicIceDiamond4665d ago (Edited 4665d ago )

"Ryse, Dead Rising 3 Did not look great at e3" In your opinion.

I thought Ryse looked great. As for Deadrising I wanna see some more dynamics in gameplay and Co op action.

"Titanfall, Project Spark: Available on PC." Why do that when X1 is the main platform? Taking advantage of the new progressive achievement system sounds great imo plus the game DVR features would be cool for that game.

I guess I can download Planetside 2 on PC and not PS4 since its available on PC.
