Xbox One message could’ve been “more open, complete,” some features may return

Xbox corporate vice-president Marc Whitten has said if Microsoft could go back to when Xbox One was announced, it would have been more “open and more complete,” regarding the features, policies and merits of its upcoming console.

Gimmemorebubblez4686d ago

This could end really well for everyone including MS or really badly for everyone including MS depending on what "features" they bring back.

iamnsuperman4686d ago

The only feature people really want is that family plan thing but I do not see that ever returning. It was more of a compromise for the system not playing used games to less the blow at such a move

CerebralAssassin4685d ago

It wasnt a compromise because it DID play used games... There wasnt a blow to compromise for.

Automatic794686d ago

MS has been making excellent decisions. I think that they will be more clear from this point on. Just continue to focus on the great games and then the features.

ShugaCane4686d ago

Do those bad decisions include the decision they decided to backtrack from, or the decision to backtrack from the decision they realized was actually a bad decision ?

M-M4686d ago

If they were "making excellent decisions" there wouldn't have been a huge amount of backlash, Don would still be at MS, and there wouldn't have been a 180.

Insomnia_844686d ago (Edited 4686d ago )

Actually I believe that if they were "more open and complete" it would've been worst as being open means saying the real stuff like the snap mode won't work with AAA games and the "game sharing" feature is not really sharing but a timed demo of the full games AND whatever else they are not saying but that we will sure know about as release date comes.

Maybe it would've been better. It's always a good thing to be sincere with consumers....

But then again, we are talking about a company that released a console to the market knowing that it had technical problems AND that now we know works with the NSA.

n4rc4685d ago

Waiting on the "real stuff".. You listed the popular but wrong assumptions..

Family share was not demos, it was full games.. Confirmed by ms

And snap is limited.. You can't snap into a AAA game from another app.. But you can snap into apps from the game.. Pretty much saying the game must be on the big screen, not snapped into the corner..

pompombrum4686d ago (Edited 4686d ago )

Wow just wow.. good luck with that Microsoft. Another reason to wait even longer before I even consider investing in the Xbox One.

Benchm4rk4686d ago

The 24 hr check in always online thing was the only problem. All the other features sounded cool. If I can log onto and access my digital games from any Xbox one than I'll be happy.

I'm playing through Gears of War 2 right now on XB1. Much, MUCH better game than 1. Excellent set pieces in the campaign and it's much smoother. The gameplay does feel a tad bit dated, though. coalition has to modern it somewhat. They need to make the triggers the sprint buttoms, the cover the convention bumper buttons, make it a tad more cinematic, and a few more changes and they're money. Loving BC so far can't wait for skate 3.

Legion213824d ago

Completely disagree with those controls, that sounds awful. What are you supposed to shoot with if the triggers and bumpers are taken?

donthate3824d ago

Well, with the new button mapping app, he can just set it up any way he wants.... Get the Elite controller and you got paddles too! Best controller I have ever used. :D

"important enough of a console that both playstation and xbox teams are making the argument that there boxes are the most “xbox 360++”

yup. That was the generation where the X360 really made online gaming a thing. I had mine for over a year before I went online for the first time with a 30 day trial. after that, I couldnt go back. Was like a whole new world of gaming. once upon a time we would have been happy playing 4 player split screen. But after I went online with R6:vegas, gears and eventually halo 3, and forza 2, there was no turning back for me.

To think I considered myself done with gaming back in 2004. I didnt expect the x360 to be such a great console. And playing the first mass effect for the first time was a special moment in gaming, ill never forget. Im amazed that MS did not buy bioware to this day./they certainly had the opportunity.

Aside from the early failure rates...360 is the best product MS ever produced. J Allard & team should've been involved with the X1 architecture/design /

Still loving this amazing piece. Truly a legacy for console gaming.

To be fair though I doubt any employee of any company would say.

"Meh maybe hold off buying our product right now it's not a great time to get it."

This is just standard PR talk, I expect Sony and Nintendo versions as well.

Lawboy24432d ago (Edited 4432d ago )

What person who has left sony since ps4 has come out and publicly said something like this

@ choujij

Lol...I'm just stating facts...the funny thing is why can't it be true because it's Microsoft....or would u rather it be the other way ard sony boasting about what's coming to ps4 and Microsoft being silent...everything is evil if Microsoft does it

choujij4432d ago

When it goes without saying, it doesn't need to be said.

Nero13144432d ago (Edited 4432d ago )

You can't be serious

kurruptor4432d ago

Ummm Jack?

"I want to thank the employees, partners and customers for their tireless commitment to the PlayStation brand and, of course, to our fans who have pushed us to new heights of innovation and entertainment over the past two decades," he said. "I leave PlayStation in a position of considerable strength and the future will only get brighter for PlayStation Nation.”

Docknoss4432d ago

Did anyone here see the leaked pictures of the new Dashboard update? Looks Amazing like a Sleek 360 Version. Can't wait for E3, i think all Xbox One owners are in for something Big. With MS minute time slot already filled.

Battlefieldlover4432d ago

Like you did with Abriel?

Lol. Sit down kid.

When would not have been a good time to have an XBOne, less than half a year after launch?

pompombrum4432d ago

Too true. Tbh, the X1 is a great console and I don't regret buying it now however if anyone asked me if I'd recommend getting one, I'd say wait six months. Still so many basic functionality elements missing that needs to be added.

Alan_Shore4432d ago

Bubble+ Sony, Ms, And nintendo are gonna say anything to make people buy there console's.

Truth is now is a great time to own any of those console's It's just that a REP of one of the console companys cant say "they all have there positives and are good to buy right now"

Blaze9294432d ago

"To be fair"

to be fair for what? Why must any good Xbox One news/quotes come with an explanation? This is saaad

UnholyLight4431d ago (Edited 4431d ago )

@TheLyonKing

Whether it's PR speak or not, I think he is right. The Xbox One may have had a rough start, but the future is bright. Xbox 360 showed just how much things can change from the beginning to it's end.

Xbox One will only take that idea to the next step, and the PS4 appears to be following the same "future proofing" concept.

While I agree with you, he still has a great point to make here. Apart from Forza, you haven't seen any of the Microsoft big guns flexing their muscles yet either. Titanfall is not, nor was it ever going to be, the killer game for the Xbox One. Not for one moment did I believe that!

Gozer4432d ago

The X1 is already very impressive on the functionality front. Its getting better and better with every update. Cant wait for E3, and all the new games. I love my X1.

christocolus4432d ago

Marc says all that has been revealed so far is just a tip of the iceberg so i wonder what else they have cooking up? Maybe the dayz dev has an idea afterall he claimed MS showed him some really amazing stuff recently..lol

LOGICWINS4432d ago

Still haven't played it yet. My cousin has one and he loves it. XB1 will have an amazing future if the price drops by $100 and MS manages to scoop up top tier devs for 1st party titles.

Automatic794432d ago (Edited 4432d ago )

I agree Gozer Xbox One has a good package right out the gate at this point with a great amount of titles that have already come out and what is to come. Xbox fitness is great and the online, services, games and functionality with the TV make this system really feel futuristic.

Note: Can't wait for E3

No_Limit4432d ago (Edited 4432d ago )

I love my XB1 too after gotten it 2 months ago. Amazing system and you can even update the controller..how awesome is that!? Can't wait for the games reveal at E3.

"So much for us was around, 'Hey, let's build this architecture that we could rev quickly, that we could add to, that was flexible, that would allow us to do more things and do more things quickly,'" he said.

Improve quickly is correct. They improve the system on what seems to be on the monthly basis now.

I wonder what will be in the summer, or in the big holiday update.

candy_mafia4432d ago (Edited 4432d ago )

Totally what MS should do. Create some buzz 'n optimism for Xbone. There's way too many negative articles about Xbone IMO.

E3 could be super huuge for all the major platforms.

lawgone4432d ago

I agree and disagree. The crowd reaction to XB1 was so immature before and did not represent the majority of customers. I like to see what's announced at things like E3 but I couldn't care less how the crowd there reacts to it. Too many easily manipulated fanboys there.

GribbleGrunger4432d ago

"You can't re-brand a personality by throwing in the word 'outgoing'", says a pragmatic poster.

BX814432d ago

Enjoying the hell out of my XB1 can't wait to see what's up next!
