"We unpacked it, boshed it on and haven't stopped playing yet. Lots more tomorrow, but here's our findings so far:
1) It's SUPERQUIET. Yes, we've said it before but we're still surprised. It makes less noise than a PS2 - just a thin, quiet whirr of a fan.
2) It gets warm - but not hot. The fan blows air out of the back and out of the top of the machine (when it's in its upright position). It's a bit weird. You certainly couldn't 'fry an egg' on the top of the machine while it's stood on end, but you could 'thaw a bagel'.
3) Loading discs is a quick, no fuss operation.
4) Screen modes up to 1080p are available - but the games we currently have don't offer 1080 modes.
5) It's see through. You can see all the innards through the smoked black plastic exterior
6) It creaks when you pick it up. The panels groan slightly with the weight of the innards
7) The power supply is built it - which accounts for what heat there is and makes it a single self contained unit (as opposed to 360's game of two halves).
8) The menus are very easy to understand. It's literally just like a PSP.
9) Games seem to leave a data folder behind on the HD disc (some kind of swap file?) We played Resistance, stopped, looked at the disc from the PS3 menu and found a 33Mb file on there (not in the save game directory). We played MotorStorm, looked again, and it had gone.
10) The pad isn't quite as classy as you think it will be. The console looks very special. The pad is a bit, well, ordinary. Dull plastic, and, because it's so light, it feels a bit unsubsantial. The new triggers are a bit rubbery too (though do have an 'L4' 'R4' 'click' at the end which we haven't noticed before.
11) We've got code for MotorStorm, Resistance and Genji so far. With more to follow.
That's about it for now.
LOTS more tomorrow."

Square Enix launches Final Fantasy X 25th anniversary site, revealing new Nomura art, books, music releases, and merchandise.
Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.
They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

A brutal reset, a smarter story, and a return to what made it great—Mortal Kombat (2011) revived the series.
15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.

Why did Sony push Shuhei Yoshida out of his role leading PlayStation's first-party games? He'd overseen some huge successes. Well, apparently, he didn't listen.
Yeah I can see that for sure. Shuhei Yoshida should have been in charge not Jim Ryan.
More confirmation that Jim Ryan is the culprit for what has happened to Sony. Hulst needs to go too. What sucks is that a lot of the good top heads at Sony are no longer there. I wish that guys that were forced out prematurely by Dumbo Jimbo like Shuhei and Layden came back.
Makes you wonder if MS even thought about hiring him after Phil and Sarah were leaving. He certainly couldn't make their situation any worse.
All the gamer/consumer lead heads are gone across PS and Xbox. shuhei gone phil's gone (questionable) but gone. The future of gaming is somewhat uncertain across the board.
1- "You certainly couldn't 'fry an egg' on the top of the machine while it's stood on end, but you could 'thaw a bagel'"
I wonder how this will pan out when people start to install them in their cramped entertainment units...
2- "It creaks when you pick it up. The panels groan slightly with the weight of the innards"
well that sounds reasurringly worth $600
3- "The pad isn't quite as classy as you think it will be. The console looks very special. The pad is a bit, well, ordinary. Dull plastic, and, because it's so light, it feels a bit unsubsantial. The new triggers are a bit rubbery too (though do have an 'L4' 'R4' 'click' at the end which we haven't noticed before."
I'm hearing the pad sucks from a variety of sources. Again, makes you wonder where the $600 quality of "eating in a fine restaurant" comes in...
it's like they documented every second of opening it and turning it on. for the most part, good news (see through=spiffy)
I mean it really didn't sound too great and this is coming from Sony magazine.. If you thaw a bagel it definately gets hot and there most likely will be some overheating issues.
"...2 years past the release of the 360 to buy a system of equal power that costs twice as much?"-Prospero666
sort of like the 2 years past of the ps2 release and yet the xbox was not all that great
-crack myself up- (i think the ps3 will be considerably better than the xbox360(if you get pass the money part)
-ps3 fund-500
