MGS5 don't have to be on GTA5 level. It's on another different level. I'm getting both games but I'm more excited for MGS5 than GTA5.

he always making games with GTA in mind i remember in one of his interviews before MGS3 he said that he wish if their is an engine that make open world games more approachable and realistic his example was GTA:VC

I take it he means interactivity with the open world element. GTA5 will have more stuff to do than MGSV. There are more cars and things to play with in GTA5. I'm basing this assumption off of the previous games I played. Gameplay wise though, MGSV seems to be more of an evolutionary step than GTA5. GTA5 just looks like more of the same, but prettier. whereas MGSV's open world element adds new things to do for that franchise. Driving stuff in an open world is new for MGS5 as well as dynamic sneaking around.

Which one will be better? We have to play both to find out.

I appreciate his honesty in this age of deceptive advertisement, but I'd still pick MGS over GTA every time.

No matter how good GTA V will be experiences like the one I get from every MGS game I'll never find anywhere else, MGS is the only game series that keep the standards at the TOP for more than 15 years now & keep deliver with every new sequel/prequel/spinoff constantly, it never disappoint & that's why more than 6 millions fans follow the series & buy every new MGS game they can find, Hideo have nothing to fear he is a genius & he have our trust & support in anything he decide to do :)

GTAV needs to be on next gen systems.. MGSV looks incredible and I can't wait to play that on PS4.

Big difference being - GTA V will be a game to have fun in. Do the story, then you run over pedestrians and blow up cop cars.

MGS 5 will have a convoluted story and cutscenes that will put some of Peter Jacksons film running times to shame. You'll play for the story and those special moments. Will the open world of MGS 5 be full of stuff to do? In the trailer he just rode on a horse and they had to fast forward because nothing was happening. It looked impressive, for sure but I doubt it'll have the amount of 'time sink' activities that we've seen in other games. We shall see though.

if i had both game.. i wouldnt even touch GTA5 till i finish MGSv at least two times...

then i would play the hell outta rockstars game...

He's honest and realistic, I like that. Both games will be great but I agree with Kojima saying that R* North are pretty outstanding.

I never got into the Metal Gear Solid series. I bought Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots, but I hated the gameplay, not my style. And artistically the visuals are not appealing.

Way to throw your studio under the bus! I'm sure that not what they would want to hear while they are developing MGS5.

ok now that I have read that article I will say this mgs and gta games is the two series that have keep me a gamer since ps1 I have deep respect for both. to me nether are better than the other. both have always been two different type of games if mgs5 goes back to stealth ways it will be epic. and gta5 yes I will say it looks to have more freedom but sometimes giving all that freedom at the very begging of a game could also ruin it. with that said gta will hold me off till next gen cant wait.

Very obvious, Rockstar has set the bar for open world, always has. As soon as they announced mgs5 to be open world, I said no way it will even come close to what GTA5 open world is.

Rockstar doesn't use the words "open world" just for hype. I respect Kojima but I think he went out of his element for mgs5, hope I eat my own words but we will see.

Kojima, that is a sad excuse for not putting all you can into a game! Just laziness....if I was a boss, and I had a team of people like GTA, I would make the MGS team learn from the GTA team to be as good.....sorry to say that Kojima wimped out on this one!

kojima should keep doing his thing in terms of gameplay because he knows what hes doing, but he should SERIOUSLY take a note from western videogames on how to write and tell a story. Good grief MGS4 was just offensive at how awful that story was told and just how convoluted it was

This is high praise from a famous, influential and very liked developer. For him to say this about Rockstar specifically and a Western developer generally should raise eyebrows in Japans. At the very least.

Yes and no while both are now open world they are too different to compare I don't expect the next mgs to have a golf or tennis mini game for example its more straight foward on it purpose

It would be impossible for any Team to beat Rockstar at what they do. Metal Gear Solid is my favourite series, but Kojima Productions do not make open world games. GTA 5 has a whole American State to play in with all of the hustle and bustle of the real word, the greatest such realization ever, built upon many years of experience, many different stories to explore, its the players journey as much as the game's characters.
MGS 5 is big boss's story, we are just along for the ride. Open world or not you can't have Boss picking up hookers, or buying sneakers from a store, it wouldn't work. MGS has always had a sandbox feel within the corridors of gameplay, and I look forwards to the most open world MGS ever.
Two different but equally brilliant game series. Nice to see Kojima acknowledge Rockstars abilities, although he is also resetting some people's expectations to a more reasonable level.

In terms of fun, they both rank equally to me, imho.

Kojima doesn't know his own talent. MGSV was one of the best games (graphically) at e3, but he might just be saying that, because GTAV is on current gen and it looks amazing, but MGSV is on next gen.

I like both but there is no way GTA V will come close to MGSV hell people still do not believe the footage is for current gen and will look better for next gen like how can they make that game look better than those previews lol.

It's a weird comparison because they set out to do such different things. I don't really think one can be strictly better than the other.

I prefer more deep immersive gameplay than open world videogames... MGSV all the way... GTA can wait on shelves for me

I think Rockstar is the company to look towards when you say Western Development, anything they make is great. It hurts to see every company say they want to be like western developers and then say their lead example is Infinity Ward and the 1 game series that they continue making -_-

Without David Hayter he is very correct. He's all over the map with the game this time. People are not sure what to think of MGS now.

Both are very different games. Rockstar North have some excellent physics, AI and animation programmers where they're based in Edinburgh. MGS graphics are better but the RAGE engine's physics look better.

for me it's easily gta i know people will disagree and thats fine we all have our own opinions but this gta looks to be in my opinion one of the greatest games ever made so far, the amount of detail, content and graphics is truly world class, rockstar know what their doing, they arent money grabbers putting out a new game every 11 months cough cough cod, they put years of effort and time into these games and it pays off everytime, and for those reasons i can tell gta 5 will be one of my favourite games of all time

I have to say that I love how Kojima is always complimenting other developers on their work and saying how he is inspired by them. Kojima is a god in the video game world and I'm sure he knows people think of him that way, so it takes a huge level of humility to say things like this. Good on you Kojima. We need more people like you.

Simple answer is it doesn't have too reach GTA level. Its amazing on its own.

Hard to compare since gta is for teens and Metal Gear Solid is for the adult. Don`t understand? Just try to dwell into all the intertextual references in MGS, and you know you`re dealing with a game with depth. Understand now? No? Then go play gta and have fun.

All comes down to preference in the end... but yeah, it's no secret, ESPECIALLY to dev people, what their limits are and budgetary restrictions.

I'm sure there will be things in MGS5 that GTA V can't do either.

That's what makes every game, movie, or book (anything really) unique (minus CoD games that is... :) ) but hopefully that will change.

I'm still not sold on either game. Is Kojima going to follow the MGS 4 route and make the game completely cutscenes. Many people forget how much was game play, and how much was cutscenes. The story was too convoluted, and that made me lose interest. Solid Snake was the reason I finished the game. He didn't care what was going on, he just had to stop terrorist.
Or is he going the route of Peace Walker, which I think is a far better game both with multiplayer and story. It wasn't as convoluted and actually felt like a sequel to MGS 3 (which it basically was).
I still don't know why people think Open World means a better game. I don't know if MGS is meant for open world. How open will it be? Will it be on one island or are there going to be places you travel to? I don't know if he's worked with other open world games (directed, created). But who am I kidding? What if the game is crap? Will you guys be honest and call him on it or are you guys just going to accept it as "the game" of the next generation?

GTA 4 was lame when it came to the story mode. It was boring, and it was missing the funnest aspect of the previous installments; there weren't any gangs like they were in the in GTA 3, Vice City, San Andres. The diversity of enemies you could make and the ability to do them separately was fun. It was also missing that cartoonish, over the top feel, and that made me feel less into the carnage I was doing in GTA4. I was stuck on the games main feature, which was it's badass Multiplayer. That thing was the reason I still owned the game. It was tons of fun.

It's cool, Kojima; it doesn't need to.

It's all your personal OPINION, I completely agree with him, Nobody does what Rockstar does with open world games. To me besides R* , Bungie , DICE, Valve think the rest of the industry is always just rehashing what they do then just implementing what R* or Bungie does into there games. They would rather copy an paste then take a risk, Hopefully this next gen that changes. But the way it looks most likely won't because the vast majority of consumers are just morons.

U ask me to name a game that defines why I play and I'll tell you MGS... but GTA is just a different type of animal, that words cant describe!

Well they are both amazing games in they´re onw genere.
One is going to make me laugh(a lot)and the other one will problably gonna make me cry a couple of times,so all i need is to really enjoy them.
