Games Like Max Payne

Max Payne is a third-person shooter video game series developed by Remedy Entertainment and Rockstar Studios. The franchise is notable for its use of "bullet time" in action sequences which slows down everything around the player while he can still aim and fire weapons in real time. This gives the characters an edge over the enemies. If you are a fan of third-person shooter games like Max Payne and looking for more games with similar game play then find the recommendations for it below

Stranglehold is the only good one of the bunch. In some respects it was even better than Max Payne 3, and that's saying a lot.

cyguration4695d ago

lol what?

Stranglehold was terrible.

Graphics were pretty good for an early UE3 title and they still hold up today, but the game was essentially a glorified arcade rail-shooter.

You couldn't "play it safe" and the whole game encouraged you to wastefully run through the level as fast as possible knocking off headshots along the way. I thought they wasted a ton of good looking and well-designed set pieces so players could blast through each area at turbo speed...it was like WTF?

I kind of wish they had some of the environments from Stranglehold in Max Payne 3 because Rockstar did a much better job of capturing "squib effect" of a John Woo shooter than the game that was supposed to be a sequel to a John Woo movie!

ifritAlkhemyst4695d ago

I didn't play Max Payne 3 "safe" either. I don't know how you played, but I was in bullet time 90% of the game while focusing on headshots. Pretty much the entire point of NY Minute.

cyguration4695d ago

@ifritAlkhemyst

That's the thing -- in Max Payne 3 you had options. You could run and gun if you were good enough, you could pick your shots from a safe place if you wanted, or you could tactically or strategically take guys out with a mix of play-styles. You didn't really have that option in Stranglehold, it was just mostly run-and-gun if you wanted to survive the wave-based enemies.

Kane & Lynch

Pancit_Canton4695d ago

I guess True Crime is more of an open world compare to more linear game like Max Payne.

cyguration4695d ago

Actually, you're right...

Sleeping Dogs was pretty much a spot-on alternative to Max Payne 3 while maintaining similar mechanics.

It was a lot closer to MP3 than Kane & Lynch (no offense Pancit) and Splinter Cell.

Lord_Sloth4695d ago

Some of the games in this list (MGS/Splinter Cell) are not like Max Payne at all. Aside from being TPS games they have nothing in common at all.

KontryBoy7064695d ago

Max Payne 3 does it better than all of them. MP3 was very underrated and it's a shame more people aren't playing it online.

PersonMan4694d ago

I agree. Max Payne 3 is one of the best online shooters in my opinion. It's pretty much the only game I still go online for.

I hope it will deliver.. we deserve a good Max Payne remake

HansyJ539d ago

We deserve nothing, but the legacy of Max pain deserves it

Cacabunga538d ago

Max Payne fans deserve a good remake. Maybe that is more clear

The_Blue538d ago

' but the legacy of Max pain deserves it"
The Max Payne legacy deserves it.

SoloZelot90538d ago

Okay...so something digital deserves it but something real doesn't?

DarXyde538d ago

I'm not much of a Remedy gamer beyond Alan Wake, but I can't say I've ever heard anyone complain about the quality of the product, whether we like the game or not.

CrimsonWing69539d ago

Um, I’d think that should go without saying… but glad they’re committed to making the quality excellent as opposed to, uh, not.

Gamingsince1981539d ago

Yeah it's kinda weird for them to say that and redundant.

DodoDojo538d ago

Its because they know that they lost trust with the GTA trilogy.

CrimsonWing69538d ago (Edited 538d ago )

I don’t think Remedy had anything to do with that. I get you’re referring to a publisher, but you wouldn’t think a developer would be reassuring people about their game when a different developer made a game that dropped the ball that’s under the same publishing umbrella.

Like, why would From Soft have to assure us that they’re game will be be striving for excellence if Namco Bandai is publishing and they’re referring to something like Unknown 9: Awakening?

This is just a weird statement no matter how you spin it, but also good to know.

jambola539d ago

oh.......thanks
"update, won't suck we hope" lol

VersusDMC539d ago

Well rockstar is paying the bills so they have to project confidence so it isn't cancelled.

What I'm wondering is who is going to voice Max since the og actor died or they are using the old VO like MGS3Remake.

Profchaos539d ago

Rockstar has always had a great relationship with remedy this isn't some new fly by night partnership they have worked together for 20 plus years now

VersusDMC539d ago

Max payne 2 was the last time they worked with rockstar in 2003. And it bombed.

Rockstar asked remedy to check out Max Payne 3 for notes but were not really involved.

So having worked on a project 20 years ago doesn't mean they have been working together for 20 plus years.

swedishMeatwad539d ago

Wow, breaking news! Developer aiming for excellent quality!

SoloZelot90538d ago

Considering some new releases that's good to hear. It is better than aiming for diversity and inclusion.

Demetrius556d ago (Edited 556d ago )

Playing max payne 2 on ps2 for the first time, lol this series definitely needs a remake. The gameplay is rough😅 still a good game tho I hope they keep that gritty feel to it.

RaidenBlack555d ago

My most anticipated remake(s)
