Shantae, a platform game produced by WayForward Technologies and published for the Game Boy Color by Capcom was something of a sleeper hit, damaged by the fact that its release was halted for eight months and that it was never widely promoted. After years absence and confirming recent chatter, it has been confirmed that a sequel to the title featuring a half-genie heroine is in development for Nintendo's new download service, WiiWare.

The original Shantae will launch digitally for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on June 2 for $9.99, developer WayForward announced.

Shantae is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a new Switch eShop sale featuring games and DLC.

Ricardo Negron of The Koalition writes: My journey through the Shantae series has finally taken me to where it all started for the half-genie hero. It’s the last missing piece of my digital collection of the series for my Nintendo Switch, and I’ve had to wait that long because it’s only now become available on that console.
