motion is the best , the rumble aint that great

I see why some ppl are excited about rumble. Not me though, I usually turned it off on DS2 controller, I thought it was kind of annoying. the motion sensing is a great addition and I think devs will make great use of it eventually. I think the only thing problematic with motion sensing is the high sensitivity to motion. I believe however that could be solved with a firmware upgrade. Anyways, glad to see Sony listening to their customers and fans.

One advantage for the SIXAXIS is longer battery life though. But it's a small price to pay for a sturdier controller with rumble.

Got mine a very long time now.

So much better with vibration, also that bit of weight helps a lot.

But expect everything to look so much the same ( build, quality... )

Only difference is the DualShock3 logo - that's all.

I think the Sixaxis might be canned after they release the DualShock3 or just die a meaningless death - or maybe not especially for those who don't give a hoot about "rumble"...

I'm getting a dualshock 3 when it comes to america. I might import it though, who knows. The PS3 seems to following the footsteps of the PS1. Getting rumble later on. It's top two exclusives being metal gear solid and final fantasy, there are several similarities. Maybe the PS4 will follow the PS2 in that regard :)

To NoFanSLand - the main reason it is still harder to press on the DualShock3 is because - the L2/R2 trigger design, the "bulge" which is shaped inwards - ( that is why we encounter slippage ) needs to be *re-shaped outwardly.
This surely is one concern Sony needs to fix.
The only solution is to buy an aftermarket add-on/clip-on that fixes this issue.

i was hoping, that they fix the horrible analog stick sensitivity from the sixaxis, which is also why many people are saying it isn't good for fps games (i played COD4 on my Xbox360 and also on my PS3, and the difference is quite big with the same settings in the game). Or they could implement at least some special settings in XMB for the analog stick acceleration...

This guy should go on top gear, his voice would be perfect for that show, its soo damn British.

Finally PS3 has a real gamers controller again. PS3 is getting back into the game.

The biggest problem with the sixaxis was how hallow and fragile it felt. It felt like it was gonna split in two pieces.

Now every PS3 should be packed with the Dualshock 3. No future PS3 adapters should have to face the sixaxis.

You said in your comment turn rumble off. Then why in the heck would you buy the controller if all your going to do is turn rumble off. Unless you ride the little yell short bus.

What I'm happiest about is the quality improvement in the plastic. I always hated the cheap transparent plastic on the SixAxiS, it's really good to see that Sony stepped up and used the quality stuff in the DualShock 3

I have had a DS3 for about 2 months now.

It's sturdier, the plastic housing isn't transparent, the triggers feel like they have slightly more resistance, and the rumble is very refined and pleasing.

The battery life difference is negligible....the insanely long USB cable I have allows me to play with it plugged in from the back of my room anyways.

Overall, it's definitely more dense....you can feel it. And that makes a good difference....it feels like you are actually holding something in your hands, lol.

EVERYONE BUY A DS3!! Even if you have a 360, you'll just want to buy it because it's so much better than the 360 controller!!!

but I wonder how the Boomerang controller felt. I'm one of the few who didn't mind the design. Oh well. still getting 2 DS3 day 1.

i got my sis to get me a DS3 when she was in singapore for a day

it is pretty decent, but i definitely noticed the weight. after using a sixaxis i spose that's to be expected

btw, i put tekken 5 into my 60 gig and the DS3 had rumble for it, which i thought was cool

The Playstation controller is terrible for many types of games its too cheapy, triggers are awful and the sticks are terrible and in the wrong place, the controller just does not feel meaty enough.

The standard SIXAXIS or should we say SUXAXIS is rubbish! It makes creepy noises/cracks, it gets real cracks in the plastic and its cheap see through.

I may hope Sony replaces the controller in the package real fast with Dual Shock 3. At last Sony, that last gen rumble back in your next gen package, right?

rumble is overrated! I already have two Sixaxis...no reason to invest in a DS3 at the moment. What was this dude talking about the controller is too small though? I'm 6'4", have some pretty big hands and IMO the PS3 controller is the best controller ever invented.

First off i dont know single person that has a blutooth headset. Secondly i had to buy new cables to hook up to my Hdtv or i just wouldnt enjoy it using composite cables on a hdtv. Your misunderstanding what i am saying if this is going to be a common practice cause people are going to buy the same game twice etc...Consumers need to stand up to anybody and stop this nonsense. Thats why i refused to pay 700 dollars for a ps3 especially buy the time you add a mic and cables and then longer cables to charge the controller you are talking 900 bucks or better with tax.

A lot of the differences he mentions could be attributed to the fact that one controller has been used and worn for a year, while one is brand new. Controllers always look and feel different when they're brand new out of the box as opposed to used, especially when it comes to the analog sticks, and the oily, semi-transparent sheen on the plastic casing.

i think the sixaxis was just a lil controller to get us by till the legal problems with immersion got dealt with. becasue that controller is cheap its see through. my analog sticks are worn out and creek when i move them around and when i push my left analog stick up it sticks and i cant play skate because im always doing a manual because my right analg sticks likes to tilt down slightly, but i digress. it will be nice to have a strudy, stronger, and heavy controller in my hands

Have their merits and annoyance, 360 controller is better for fps whilst they suck at fighting games where as the ps3 contoller is the opposite (in my opinion), good to show sony eating humble pie and making a rumble controller, shame you have to pay for something that should come as standard, for me its rumble over motion anytime

The controllers as is are fine. I never cared for rumble never missed it. As far as the flimsy feeling goes...are u using it to play games or are you a wrestler? I guess it boils down to the strength of your grip. Well mine is hard. I have a rep for breaking things in my hands when I am not paying attention. That being said I never found the sixaxis controllers that flimsy...

I think people get used to what they had before or they compare to something else, and then the trivial comparisons begin...

I wish they would make Different sizes. I use the 360 controller on my PC and it fits my Huge American banana hands allot better. I would use a 3rd party controller if they could make one that wasn't $hite.

i don't care what anyone says. i imported one and it changed my gaming experience completely. i now prefer it over my xbox 360 controller.

how subtle and drawn out the vibrations can be, as well as the fact that it's semi-directional. I'm still pissed that Infinity Ward has been able to put out two patches for Call of Duty 4, but none of which add DS3 support. It's about the only game in my library that doesn't have force feedback...

But yeah, Everyone should definitely pick up at least one of these babies. The sticks are closer to the sturdiness of the 360's analog sticks (but not as stiff) and the buttons have more weight to them.

HaHa I love how Peeps complain about the PS3 controller not being meaty enough.. Seriously how big do you want a controller.. How FREAKISHLY HUGE are everyones hands.. How do people complain about the triggers.. They are set perfect.. R1 and L1 (which is meant for heavy use) not set too high to where its uncomfy like the 360.. L2 and R2.. good space from the upper R1 and L1.. R2 and L2 arent meant for heavy use.. They are meant for quick "SNAPS" I guess you can say.. Hence the new design.. You rarly hold the R2 and You certainly Never hold L2.. R2 Holding is meant for Racing.. Seriously take a look at all games.. R2 and L2 are usually gernades which are quick "Snaps" of the fingers.. L1 and R1 do all the heavy lifting.. If you complain about size.. Go buy a Nyko or something.. Those are usually freakishly huge.. Controllers are made for the masses.. Not for Giants with huge fat fingers.. If you got 5 jimmy deans on your hand then haha im sorry.. Live with it

IMO the L2 and R2 button triggers are MUCH more easy to use with a slight tap then before (PS2/DS2). The trigger effect is what makes them so great for FPS and any other game you need those buttons a lot.

One is all I need. I have two none rumbles now, but 95% of the time the 2nd is never touched. So I will either buy one of these or a nice third party as they become available.

First off i am talking about at launch and secondly you cant buy a rev. 1.3 hdmi cable for 10 bucks i paid 89 bucks for my hdmi cable but it was also 15 foot. And cheap usb dont fly worth a crap i have one for the psp and it wont copy crap from the ps3 cause it is a cheap cable.

And i have played online with the ps3 numerous times and never heard a single person talk. I have 11 people in my friends list not a single person has a headset. I didnt say nobody has a headset i said i dont know anyone with one.

I have 2 DS3 - imported from Japan from Amazon.Com last year.

The much needed weight of the controller is a big plus vs. the toy like original 6-axis. It rumbles nicely with games like Resistance, Uncharted, etc

Battery also lasts a long time which is a great plus.

Worth buying is my opinion if you need the weight and missed the rumble.

Now that Jim Ryan is gone just need to remove Herman Hulst from his position! And maybe give Shuhei the position he deserved.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.

I hope going forward, we will see a return to form.
