Beyond: Two Souls - David Cage Interview | Gamereactor UK

GR-UK writes: "One of the last huge games coming to Playstation 3 will be Quantic Dream's Beyond: Two Souls. Bengt Lemne tries to find out more about the game from writer and director David Cage, at the same time as trying not to find out too many spoilers.

"It's always a tricky situation, where you need to show parts of the game to convince people to get interested in it, and at the same time you don't want to spoil the game for people who know they're going to want it anyway. So it's a difficult balance to find."

Cage then explained to us what makes the game so unique: "It's unlike most other games that you've played before. It's not a game where you've got mechanics and each scene is just a different level. Here in each scene it's a different setting, a different situation, a different age for Jodie, a different way for her to move, to talk, a different way she looks, and each scene is almost a different story."

Quantic Dream's last game, Heavy Rain, was incredibly popular despite cutting its own path. Cage revealed what the two games have in common, and what makes them unique: "The two games are different and similar at the same time... What we try to do is have games with meanings, games that say something. We pay a lot of attention to the emotions that you're going to feel when you play, and of course it's pretty much story driven."

"But the two games are very different," he continued. "They have a different balance, they tell a different story, and I would say Beyond is a very different gameplay mechanic, that is totally new compared to Heavy Rain, which is the possibility to control a human being, Jodie Holmes, but at the same time you can switch at any time to the ghost Aiden that she shares a link with, and you can play as the ghost. So you can switch from one point of view to another, you can make the two collaborate.

"What was very important to us was also the fact that this spirit, this entity, is not just a power, it's really a character with his own personality and his own goals and his own taste and his own skills."

He finished up by stressing how Beyond will differ from Heavy Rain: "The game is bigger in size, bigger in scope, it's more spectacular, it's more epic in many ways, but at the same time you have these very epic moments, but at the same time you have these very intimate moments. It's a journey into someone's life."

David Cage is a G (gansta.... or just an awesome person)

oh, and I hate the interviewer

DazeLokrotan4720d ago

isn't the interviewer the same douche who was being an a-hole in the Total War: Rome II Battle of the Nile demo?

minimur124719d ago (Edited 4719d ago )

not sure, but all i know is that hes f***ing annoying.

he's an interviewer and needs to look the part when interviewing something like him, make his hair look nice, don't interrupt, just annoying

Ever since Heavy Rain, I've been supporting Quantic Dream. They put heart and soul into their work and create art.

That art might not be for everyone, but it's polished, well designed and engaging for those that enjoy it.

I bought Heavy Rain just to play on my brother's PS3 each weekend, travelled home from uni just to finish it. What a great experience!

Cacabunga480d ago

Heavy Rain was a masterpiece and one of my top 3 best PS3 games.
Beyond was solid as well but not as good.
Elliot Page is nonsense 🤦🏻

JASON JASONNNN yeah that was a great game, wish there was a proper remake

Relientk77480d ago

This is actually my favorite Quantic Dream game. I thought the story, supernatural stuff, and cast was great and super interesting. Hopefully the show will be good.

cthulhucultist479d ago

Same here, This one i liked the most. The variety in scenery and set pieces was refreshing and the supernatural aspect was well executed.

I am a bit biased however because I love all interactive movie like games

This has been my most anticipated Star Wars game in years. Can't wait to see what they have done.

P_Bomb490d ago

I like the accessibility option in recent games like Dying Light 2 and RE4, where you can simply hold a QTE button instead of spamming like a madman. 😌

got_dam490d ago

I thought this was canceled.

Terry_B489d ago

Nope..they just revealed it way too early, said already at the reveal it will be released in years

Miacosa490d ago

Why is it taking so long for this game to come out?

ChasterMies647d ago

The departure of the lead writer likely means the story is done. The trailer for this game is amazing. Hope it comes out soon.
