PS4 vs. Xbox One: Microsoft Hasn’t Learned Its Lesson

DailyGame: "The rhetorical question we pose ... is whether Microsoft has learned its lesson or [is] doomed to repeat history and fail out of the gate."

They know they've made awful decisions and they're still doubling down on all of this BS.

How can they not be aware with lots of 360 owners cancelling their live or cancelling the renewal lately, all the internet backlash and the hate mail?

They knew this would be a hard transition and they were right.

Out of the gate they may be ok, due to hardcore supporters, but during the first 2 years of its lifecycle, the One will suffer and suffer greatly.

The family plan will not entice ppl who are currently turned off. Some consumers are stupid, but most will the see competition or their friends ps4 and kmow what the deal is.

3rd console curse.

mario194715d ago

Honestly Microsoft should go back to highschool

jmc88884715d ago

More like 1st grade.

Their decisions are that stupid, they are literally first grade mistakes.

LackTrue4K4715d ago (Edited 4715d ago )

I don't like how Microsoft has came in the console industry and is changing everything for the worst!!!!!

I think Gears of War 3 was the first to bring in "Season pass"!?!
Like really..."Seasons pass" what is this a theme park?!?

Just call it what it really is!
DLC, what am i....being taking on a ride or what?! Lol...

SpinalRemains4715d ago

That comment just made me laugh really hard.

I have thought the exact same thing in regards to season pass. hahaha. Its like youre allowed to access the local batting cage all summer because you paid for the card. LOL

season pass. hahaha

miyamoto4715d ago

Don Mattrick: "If the PS3 got away with $500 price tag and out sold the 360, we are Microsoft and we can do that too! Get that Blu-ray thing in there!"

B-radical4715d ago

I have pre ordered xbox one i will either love it or learn a lesson wish me well boys!

shaenoide4715d ago

Good luck mate... don't forget ir's only a pre order ^^

jmc88884715d ago (Edited 4715d ago )

Just better hope you don't learn that lesson with...

Being fired
Not being promoted
Blackmailed
House robbed
Higher insurance premiums

I mean these are just some of what can happen from the data that Kinect 2 will give the gov't, criminals, and thousands of corporations that will have the data.

Better not have your significant other around you because it will catch that too.

Maybe you'll see yourself on some porn tube.

Of course you're also going to deal with a console that's more expensive, might be delayed, might RROD or similar, is significantly less powerful by an amount that will matter, and because of it's built in kill switch will decide whether or not you play.

B-radical4715d ago

Oh ill just have it turned off or turned to the wall no biggy :)

Gazondaily4715d ago

I have to ask, don't you feel like a goon with all this 'Greatness awaits 4>1' nonsense? You do realise it makes you look like a complete utter fanboy right?

zeroskie4715d ago

I think MS is making the right choice in sticking to their guns. It's too late now to backtrack they'll be so far behind the PS4 if they try to imitate it. Their only chance is to do something totally different (even if it's stupid) in order to occupy a different niche and it may pay off later on in the cycle.

Sure, GAMERS know the PS4 is better, but I'm betting MS will still sell just fine to the casual shopper, especially the mom that buys the Xbox because she loves her kids and will get the more expensive console.

Foxgod4715d ago (Edited 4715d ago )

Why is there so much hate for soccer moms :( poor moms already have a full time job raising their kids, and they get no respect at all :(.

pompombrum4715d ago

Ironic, with all the overly complicated crap going on with the Xbox One, I'd be pointing my finger at Microsoft saying they hate the soccer moms the most.

Come release, it's going to be like a soap opera in game shops daily as poor soccer moms who are clueless on all these restrictions go back into the stores trying to understand everything.

zeroskie4715d ago (Edited 4715d ago )

I was just thinking of moms in general. But yeah I guess that would include soccer moms.

Edit: My mom's a dentist, but I know she would pick the Xbox if she still bought this kind of stuff for me.

miyamoto4715d ago

victimizing soccer moms isn't right, mate.

its a terrible crime

its time to put a stop to this terrible crime

Wii U is a testament to that

How will they be behind? As a gamer, I believe the PS4 is miles in front and the reasons for it is something that shouldn't even be debated let alone a reality.

Imho:

Remove mandatory Kinect and offer a cheaper release bundle to rival the ps4. - Yeah they want mandatory kinect but that fad has passed, I've not seen one of my 70+ 360 friends play a kinect game in over three years. Simply put, give it to those who want it but don't penalize those who have no interest in it.

Get rid of the 24 hour internet check - no just no, doesn't need to be there and is going to cause grief for many people once or twice next gen.

Stop this DRM rubbish - It worked for steam because second hand pc game trading was and has always been taboo for at least the last eight years. It might well be the future but right now in the present, DRM = bad.

Do those things and they won't be behind at all. Maybe hardware wise they will potentially be behind but they will be far more competitive and give those who care a reassuring nod that they have gamers/consumers best interests at heart. Most of the things people hate about the Xbone are decisions Microsoft have made, not the hardware itself.

zeroskie4715d ago

I was just thinking of the 95% to 5% difference in votes on Amazon's gaming page. They had to end the voting early because it was getting ridiculously one sided.

If that many gamers have already decided on the PS4, then what happens when Microsoft changes all their policies to be exactly like SONY's? You get a more expensive, less powerful PS4. Still an easy choice for consumers.

NeoTribe4715d ago

Im gonna need you to sign a disclaimer so I can copy and paste your comment where need be. Perfectly put.

USMC_POLICE4715d ago

Then she returns it because of the policies she didn't read up on

jmc88884715d ago

Which at some point they may try to block.

That'll really piss some people off.

Because a whole bunch of people are going to be returning the Xbox one...that's just an inescapable fact.

More so if they rush it out and it RROD or similar.

But they may have RROD type returns, just from their asinine spying and DRM policies.

Little jimmy's room doesn't have internet access.

Think about how many people will have internet access, but not in their other rooms...so forget about most people having multiple consoles in their house.

I can see it now, retailers and/or microsoft will try to stop returns, and at that point people will be complaining how they didn't expect a console to not work and didn't expect to be spied on.

Microsoft has opened up a can of whoop ass it can't possibly contain.

rainslacker4715d ago

@jmc

Just a bit off topic, but I can't imagine any parent is going to allow "little jimmy" to have a device with a mandatory camera in their bedroom, especially if it's hooked up to the internet. Or at least they shouldn't. Even disregarding the privacy concerns, that is just inviting predatory behavior unto your children.

Any camera connected to the internet, that a person's child has access to should be in a well supervised area, and it's use should be limited to only people that both the child and the parent know personally.

Not to be all uppity about it, but maybe an article should be written about that. I'd be more concerned about that as a parent than whether or not Kinect is watching my blood vessels to see if I'm desiring some Cheddar Cheese flavored Pringles.

Dno4715d ago

good post. however the only thing I will disagree with is casuals. I do not see the casuals paying 500 bucks and not paying a lot of games. I think they will go for the cheaper one which is either ps4 or the 50 dollar cheaper wii u.

M$ wants the casuals but peple are casual because they don't spend time on these boxes like us hardcore do. So we are more willing to pay 500 bucks for something that we wan just to play halo. What is the draw for the casual to pay 500 bucks hen everything the XB1 can do the cheaper ps4 can do? I mean is that not what happened with the 360 and ps3? 360 sold more at least here In the USA because it was cheaper.

shaenoide4715d ago

Maybe they think the xbox brand strong enough for selling by itself... maybe yes maybe no we will see.

IMO XBOX executives should prepare themself to be fired :p

zeroskie4715d ago

That's a good point. But I'd say that anyone that's buying a $400, or $500 console at launch is either a gamer or someone with expendable cash. And for the latter, $100 probably isn't a big deal to them, it may even be a selling point.

I could be totally off, but that's just what I think from my experience.

thehitman4715d ago

The problem is if you want to appeal to a more casual crowd you dont release the console at 499 which is the highest of the consoles out right now. MS just seem to be in a bad predicament that they didnt even think they would be in. Sad part is I think the ps4 would appeal more to the casual crowd then than xb1. It has all the features of the xb1 besides the kinect TV thing and moving the UI with your hands which im sure Sony could put in the Eyetoy if they so decided.

They for sure chose the worst way to deal with it

-Foxtrot15d ago

Funny considering Bruce left half way through development and now we get told there was an internal conflict with the story direction.

Makes you think…

HectixRose17d ago

I think it was good decision, if he was still alive, he would have been a mascot just like Kratos, drake and many others. These old dudes gotta die for new characters to take center stage with their own storyline. They keep dragging the emotional baggage into many sequels and eventually the story just turns into absolute shit show.

JEECE17d ago

It was ironic because people complained heavily about the story in the Uncharted games not having sufficient stakes because all the key characters always survived, despite the dangerous situations they were always in. Then ND killed a character in a more serious series and everyone lost their minds. Just shows that people don't always really want the thing they say they want.

CantThinkOfAUsername16d ago

I thought the more common complaint about Uncharted franchise was how the main cast are the good guys acting so nonchalantly while killing hundreds in cold blood (aka the dissonance between gameplay and story cutscenes). They just did it again in Part II.

Soy17d ago

Didn't have to kill him. Just have them part ways or Joel can "retire," whatever.

DarXyde16d ago

I don't think he would necessarily need to become a mascot (and besides, technically, I'd say Ellie is... So regardless, someone was going to be).

From a narrative perspective, I do think it has a similar effect to Ricky dying in Boyz N Da Hood: very likeable character, and you're really motivated to see the get back—in this case, it's more intense because it's an interactive experience. Most people hated Abby, but I get what they were after with portraying the cycle of violence and revenge—unfortunately, the game appears to want to take the side of the bad people.

But I will say that if Joel survived, it does become harder to tell an interesting story. What COULD have happened is an exploration into the rift between Joel and Ellie after the trolley dilemma events of the first game. It could have been interesting to see Abby out for revenge at the same time Ellie hated Joel.

Ashunderfire8616d ago

Sorry just had to say this lol! RICKYYYY!

Man Cuba Gooding Jr was miscast in that movie, but that part was cringey it was sad and funny at the same time man.

Ashunderfire8616d ago (Edited 16d ago )

I understand but the way they went about killing Joel, was poorly executed. Even the show of the Last of Us games tried to improved it, but it was just as bad. Well at least Joel got to know the reason why he had to die, before the death happened in the show. That part gave us the full context, but the game just let it happen with no pay off.

Joel death should have been a midway thing through the story, so we at least get to play him a little more with Ellie. Abby didn’t need to be this Hulk looking woman, but more like the show Abby which is a beater idea in my opinion.

The only ND game that was so disappointing to me I couldn't finish it.

pwnmaster300017d ago

Honestly as much as I loved the game, they could have just not killed him off.
I get it creator vision and all but killing a character that made you millions is just wrong imo. At least have him go down fighting.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle16d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted
