Anyone who ignores the value of the games you get over the course of the membership in relation to the cost of PS+ membership is clearly a fool.

There are discounts on games whilst being a member as well.

Nobody is denying the value of plus. People just have a problem paying twice to access online mode on their games. It's an issue of principle is all.

Not a problem for me personally as I've always been a plus subscriber but I can understand those who are annoyed. Free online multiplayer was a perk. I personally thought there were enough plus subscribers to keep a free online viable.. ar well.

The games more than make up for any cost but I'm sure yous lot get my point.

While it is truly a great deal, some like me prefer to have the option of getting this great deal or not while being able to play online for free regardless, why ? because my friend i have an internet connection of 512 kbps and a monthly data cap of 20 GB's a month , so i can't really benefit from Plus's deals and free games most of the time , on the ps3 it's not a problem but on ps4 it's gonna be a problem because i'd only be paying for Plus to access multiplayer portion of games i already paid for ! so i am planning on splitting the Ps plus sub fee with a friend of mine and use a mutual account, at least this way i'd be only paying 25 dollars.

I wish they make it free or at least have different type of subscriptions with different fees and features, like pay 10 or 20 dollars a year for multiplayer only (because am sure most games have their own servers or are p2p so sony are only running the servers that holds your account and maybe the servers that do the matchmaking) , or pay 50 dollars and get free games and some Gaikei features on top of it, that would be swell but one can hope :I

Why don't any of you people every admit that the PS+ is somewhat a scam? Yes the discounts and free games are great! The discounted games are yours to keep, because they are limitted versions of the originals and the free games are ONLY FREE AS LONG AS YOUR PERSCRIPTION IS ACTIVE. As soon as it lapses or you decide no longer to pay all of your free games, ALL OF THEM, become non-playable. FOREVER! All I'm saying is stop ignoring this glaring and obvious fact. But, PS+ is nice.

It's required for online multiplayer only, and Sony has eliminated all online passes, so it's a trade-off.

But let's not forget all the games that come with PS+.

Additionally, Sony does not require PS+ for Netflix, Hulu, and even a lot of f2p games are not going to require PS+. Sony said that certain publishers can choose to give you online multiplayer without being behind the PS+ paywall. Announced so far, I think Warframe and Planetside 2 are both playable without PS+

I agree its not at all, I love ps plus and will always have it regardless. It's paid for its self 10 times over with all the great free games, betas and early demos. If anything with more subscribers and the pressure of introducing pay to play multiplayer Sony will make ps plus even stronger with more freebies. I love this business model way way better then live. Sony did a fantastic job with ps plus and I think gamers will be really happy with it especially on ps4. Plus wait until they start cloud gaming.....

Well paying for something that used to be free is a problem. In terms of online gaming (not the service itself).

But it's a small one given the circumstances.

PS+ gives you value. I never got it for PS3, but I always saw the value you get from it.

Now you know you'll get an upgraded version for PS4, Gaikai, and those free games and other perks, you know it'll be an even better service with even more value.

But the kicker is, with all the people who will be jumping ship to PS4, they'll take their xboxlive subscription money over to PS+.

So for many users they are merely replacing one paid service for another.

That's what I'm doing. I could have re-upped in April or May, but I had a feeling this was the way it was going, and I wasn't going to pay to keep xboxlive if I wasn't buying an xbone.

online on ps4 was never free, just because it was free on ps3 doesnt mean it will, or should be free, on ps4.
they will be using a conpletely different, new set of servers seperate from the current ps3 online infrastructure, ps3 online play will remain to be free.
ps4's online expeience features a whole host of new features missing from the ps3.

regarding all other issues, hey at least people will be getting more than just online play and voice chat for the subscription charge, and dont give me that 'but you get free games on xbox live gold too' sure you do but only very very recently, and only games so old they cant sell them anymore.

Read up on what you get from psn+ and read up what you get from xbox live, then read up on the ps4 about what you can do when you have no psn+ sub and then read up on what you can do on the xbone with no gold live sub. If you still think this is the same thing you are dumber than i thought.

And incase you didnt realise the ps4 is not the ps3 the same as the 360 is not the xbone they are different consoles.

TLDR PSN+ is by far the better service, i myself have downloaded $200 AUS in 2 days of getting my psn+ sub for $70, the math of that is in 2 days i have $130 AUS extra stuff than my $70 would have gotten me else where, and that $70 lasts me the entire year with which i will have gotten at least $500 more content from that little $70 sub

Unless there are different levels of PS+ plus membership.. what incentive does Sony get for putting on good games on the IGC now?

They could just fill it with moderate/average titles from now till the end of time, and it won't matter one bit - since everyone who wants to access online play now has to pay for it.

I think the IGC should be a separate subscription in of itself.

While MS wasn't in the right in almost putting every online service offered them but their own online shops, Sony shouldn't be getting offered sainthood for doing the same with just multiplayer.

Honestly, what online PC games besides MMOs require additional fees to access them? And of course that's not all MMOs at this point.

FPS games, usually require server rental --> 20-40 USD per month.
If you're not the one renting then you can bet someone else is paying for it.
The so-called free-2-play games make even more money than subscription models, my point is that if something is good or worth it enough people will pay.

That's the vision Sony has, improving their service.
Will it actually be better with all the bells and whistles?...time will tell.

People can still watch Netflix and all that without Plus, game offline, play free-2-play games.

PC multiplayer games can be run from home servers and many were before publishers started blocking.

That aside I feel we need to know more about whats being offered when paying. Are we getting proper dedicated servers or is it still the peer to peer.

I also feel that online should have been just split into basic and premium where basic is much as is now on PS3 and premium is dedicated servers, VOIP servers etc. Most will likely opt for premium but at least it's then a choice.

The only reason Sony gets any sort of slack is because PS+ is an AMAZING deal for gamers, and not a single real gamer can discount that. You get far more than your $50 worth out of the subscription service, and that alone is why I don't care that Sony is requiring + for multiplayer.

Now, the day PS+ stops being an amazing deal I'll criticize Sony for the decision, just like I criticized Microsoft for theirs.

Not to mention, unlike Microsoft, Sony doesn't put stuff you already pay for, ie Netflix and Hulu, behind the paywall.

and tbh although the games you are recievings RRP price is above the subscription there mainly old games that dont sell anymore.. Sure u get the odd beta (litereally the best thing) but thats really it... everything else is just trash wrapped up to look pretty.

You must not be a PS+ subscriber because Uncharted 3, Infamous 2, LBP, etc are great games, not to mention the ton of others that I've gotten, but those stand out.

Exactly right, Online fees doesn't always have to be a bad thing if its a great deal. PS+ is a much better deal than XBL, you actually do get what you pay for. And at least every media app isn't locked behind the PS+ paywall, unlike XBL which was one of my biggest complaints about the Xbox 360.

That's the difference between Sony and Microsoft, Sony is all about giving, while Microsoft is all about taking.

The world changes, people change, and people have a right to change their minds. I think it sucks for both systems really.

I've never called anyone stupid for paying for XBLive. I just personally never saw any value in it...as in paying for it to just play online(other features were superfluous or didn't interest me much).

I already see value in PS+, so while I don't like that Sony is charging people for online now, I still find value in PS+ for the other things it offers, so in a sense this decision doesn't bother me.

I will admit though, for those that don't see value in plus, or just don't want to pay for it, it does suck that they have to pay for MP now. I'm kind of torn on my actual feelings over it because of what I describe above.

There was a video on another article that says we're congratulating a company for not being fascist, and praising a company for not being as evil as another. I thought it humorous because that is kind of what happened here. OTOH, this is the only negative thing I personally see in the PS4 right now, and business is business in the end, and I wouldn't go anywhere near as far to say that this is an evil decision on Sony's part.

Hell, I don't like it. Honestly, if I didn't see value in Plus, I would get a Wii U and be done with it. But Plus is a great deal, and it doesn't hurt that I've got like two years already paid up.

Me accepting it doesn't mean I'm completely happy with it, but I can see the reasoning and value behind it far more readily than with XBL.

while it is required to play online gameplay, it's the other things that you get with a PS+ subscription that makes all of the difference (instant game collection, huge discounts, early beta access...). that, and it carries over across all 3 of the platforms (PS3, vita, and PS4). that's huge value for $50.

also, you *do not* need PS+ to access any of the social media stuff or netflix/hulu/etc... and things that are currently behind the PS+ paywall, like auto updating, are now accessible to everyone, regardless of whether they pay for the service.

Well the service costs less and you get free games out of it, so that does bring the value up to it.

It doesn't get rid of the fact you need to pay to play multiplayer games, but unlike xboxlive at the time, that was the only thing you were really paying for. PS+ again, gives you games and other perks.

So PS+ is more than just multiplayer access, but a broad suite of perks that include games, skins, that sort of thing, and no doubt Gaikai.

Uncharted 3 is 17$ kingdoms of amu is 15$, and hitman absolution is19$ on amazon as of now, drive club is the only real deal but that is just a promotion so don't get used to free 60$ games,not to mention is just another racing sim that won't be as good as Gran turismo or Forza. DuesX is also 15$ on amazon.

So they are older games, that many have purchased.

It's still a good deal. I'll take free games. It's better than paying and getting no games.

I really see Gaikai and PS+ makes alot of sense when you think about it. Streaming from a list of free games that come out every month for the service.

Besides it also seems to be pretty good games, not Aliens Colonial Marines.

plenty of those games are shit, plenty of those games are 8$ PSN games,plenty of those games are over 2 years old and can be purchased for less than 10$,plenty of those games i already played when they came out,after 6 years you have paid 300$ for playstation plus and now that will be mandatory to play online.Stop blindly using PS plus as justification,you shouldn't be forced to pay for the service just because you want to play online because not everyone wants a few shitty games every month. If you want great deals try steam, my friend purchased Dishonored for 69 cents in a special hour sale only a month after it released, thats a deal.

the vita games you get for free like blazblue continuum shift, uncharted, gravity rush and more are all 29.99 and above value. not to mention there's also Sleeping dogs bundle which is 49.99 for free, Little big planet karting, uncharted 3, the new xcom game that came out, little big planet 2 and tons of other psn games, free avatars, themes, discounts on full games, early access to demos and betas. all this for 49.99 no tax. its not just ps3 but also psvita games for free and now gaikai will be implemented in the structure to make the online community better. Sure its great to have free online, but when you're getting so much than what you're paying for, i dont really see the point of you complaining so much.

plus the fact that ps4 is underpriced with all the superior tech in it, they need to get some money rolling back in, in a fair way that doesnt compromise consumer rights.

12 games at $15 is $180. Also Sleeping Dogs last month was still $30-40 at retail. But sure lets lump everything into the 2 year old segment...because obviously old games aren't worth playing.

Then of course there is all the other games that they offer too, indies, PS1 classics, older A/B level games, Minis. And if you have a Vita, games which still retail for $20-30, half of them considered Vita must haves. In the past year and a half I've gotten over 100 games. Not all of them are magnificent, but quite a few of them are really good and worth playing.

Only reason someone wouldn't consider PS+ a value is if they don't like playing games.

I've had a ps3 since launch, preordered a ps4 and have been on + all the way back when it started and sucked. It did start weak btw. I support PS, but I don't like this move or the way they told us.

I like things the way they are now. We can go plus if we like. Why should we have to pay to access half the game?

I personally don't care about psn charging for online play since I'm a plus member and pay for live, but I think its a bad move to charge for what is free elsewhere

So just to be clear, something that used to be free (online multiplayer) is now a paid service and that's cool with you? Nevermind what you my think is a value (free old games that are not really free). I can't see how anyone can justify this. Only the most hardcore hypocrite Sony fanboys don't see the problem with this.

Unless the ps4 will be dedicated servers for all their games then I say those people are idiots. The servers will be p2p most likely.

It does kind of annoy me that multiplayer isnt free anymore on the PS4 but Plus is a service that offers a tremendous amount of value and in my opinion its much better than XBOX Live Gold. This doesn´t really affect me because i subscribe to plus for the "free games"

It annoys me as well...mostly because if Sony hadn't done it they would have knocked the ball out of the park, as opposed to just hitting a home run. But I do find PS+ a tremendous value. I understand people may not want to pay for it though, so I hate to be the guy saying just suck it up, it's worth it. Hopefully Sony is going to use that money to build a really strong MP structure for their network. Not familiar with Live, but hear they have good socialization for MP.

I'm starting a PS+ subscription this month, because I can see the value in it and wish to support it. You know, voting with my wallet etc.

A single PS+ subscription means I have access to all PS+ content from PS3, Vita and PS4. There's an awful lot of value in there. I'm not going to sit here and spout the usual "free games" spiel because they're not free, I'm paying to play them, but <€5 per month for all that it brings? I'm already looking at 3 games I'm going to play within my first month or so. That's at least €80 saved right there.

If they keep it up with PS4, I won't even regard it as a paywall. It will be an integral part of the experience for me. I'm sorry if others don't see the value and can understand their disappointment, but PS+ is Sony showing you what kinds of things THEY will do with a paid subscription. No added cost games and other content is far better than anyone else offers, and it's the sort of stuff MS was supposed to do with Live. Sony are actually REINVESTING the PS+ subscription money in better PS+ for members. They don't just pocket the money and run.

They give BACK.

I think Sony said that it is up to the publishers if PS+ will be required for online multiplayer. The PS+ is worth every penny because of the free games and deals. Its also great that one PS+ subscription will work on Vita, PS3, and PS4. Even if its required, it wouldn't bother me because I would want a better online experience. You have to remember that saying "You get what you pay for".

LOL, people disagreed my comment. I like how people forget that Xbox One requires Xbox LIVE to play online and same with the Xbox 360. PS+ gives back to the consumers and doesn't rip you off like Xbox LIVE.

I would have complained about paying for online a year ago. However, since I got my Vita and started paying for playstation plus I don't really see a problem.
However I do see why paying to play online is a problem. Especially for people who do not own a PS3 or Vita. Instant Game collection will most likely not kick off for the PS4 at launch until atleast 6-12 months down the line.

Drive club Plus edition will come out, but that will probably be stripped off a lot of features. Does anyone know if we will get a discount to upgrade to the full version if we have plus?

Looking at my history, I never owned Xbox Live because I don't support pay to play models.

You can go on "but you get discounts!" Thats great and all, but I've played online maybe 3 days the past three weeks. Thats a full month membership to only play for 3 days. Yet if I let my membership slide and randomly decide "hmm, feel like playing today" I suddenly owe money to do it.

Luckily I already have a year of PS Plus, and will be getting another year with my Amazon PS4 so I don't have to worry about it for a while.

While PS+ is a great deal, yea I do not like having to pay to play games online. But I can see this being a good thing. When you think about it, I think it means the end of online passes for individual games, unless some companies get too greedy. *Cough(EA) *Cough! They would have to be morons to do it now, but they did do away with passes for their games on PS3. And while I don't play sports games often, I think its rediculous to buy a game like Madden and the pass is only good till the next years version comes out. I'm hoping this is the end of individual game passes.

The 1 thing that does concern me about the paywall is, will PS+ raise the price of a year pass, and will there be a premium PS+ service now. I mean like buy PS+ to play online, but if you want the free games and discounts, you have to buy a Premium PS+ service. I don't think the latter will happen, it's just a concern.

TBH We all had to see this coming. If SONY can make money for just people wanting to play online, they're gonna do it. Anyone in business will if there's profit to be made, thats just a smart business move.

But as long as they keep doing what they're doing now with PS+ (free games, discounts, xtra stuff) and keep it the same price it is now, they'll always have my business.

The thing is, online functionality is a service that is ongoing and requires ongoing maintenance, upgrades, man power and financial input.

The game is the product, online is a service.

We're lucky we got free online play for this long.

as generous as sony has been with ps+ and online gaming on the ps3 not to mention the customer friendly policies of ps4 sony deserves to makes some money off something. I mean yeah I don't like it being needed for ps4 online play but it still is the best deal out there on any console. period point blank.

Well... i have plus, and nothing will change for me. But i've always criticized M$ for that thing and i'm going to do the same for Sony now. I know the value, i know all the things you get (and i continue paying for it, since it's superb) but i don't like at all this "insert the multiplayer into the pay fot it thing".

According to me, the multiplayer has to be free. Maybe add things to plus or give the crossgame chat with it, dunno...

I repeat: PSPlus --> A+++++
Paid multiplayer: --> Z-----

I'll continue with Plus and i'm super happy with it tho, like i said, nothing changes for me.
