DayZ Standalone alpha is almost here

According to DayZ creator Dean "Rocket" Hall, the standalone alpha release of DayZ is almost here. "It's very, very, very close," said Hall. "We need to get it out because we need feedback on the systems we've designed." The game will launch as a paid alpha, then as a beta until its final release. DayZ Standalone is aiming to fix everything that is wrong with the mod for Arma 2 and will add new exciting features. One feature is the ability to build things like in Minecraft. Another feature is a Red Faction-like destruction mechanic in the game world:

Almost here = several months

Yeah, i remember how he said that the game would be out before the end of the year (2012) and how he stressed that "it just has to" come out before then. That was over 6 months ago.

But still, i dont mind guys taking their time to get things right. Cant wait to play this.

It's been almost here for the last six months. It went from Alpha, backwards, to pre Alpha and it's going through a closed Alpha sometime soon, for streamers to play. If it's out before the end of the year I'd be surprised, then when, IF, it does your getting way less than any of the mods already out there. The Standalone has become a joke, the head guy went on holiday and the rest of the team sat on their hands for six months, the same bugs I see now are still in the standalone.

Stick with the mod guys, save your money and disappointment.

Ps, all the features are just pipe dreams that may or may not appear many many months from now.

Lost interest in this game tbh.

Same. Seeing it in action didn't help my interest, either.

I worry that Team Rocket is trying too hard to reinvent the wheel - building a game from the ground up even though the mod already had solid foundations. The community has taken DayZ in so many exciting directions over the past 12 months that the standalone may not hold their attention for long.

Worst case scenario: we all buy the standalone – making Rocket, et al, rich - then quietly disperse and go back to playing our own preferred flavours of DayZ in the private hives.

looks like team rocket is blasting off agaaaaaiiiiin!!!!

I think its better if they spend time on the game, if you look at ea, you will see what i mean. It will be ready, nobody knows when, but when its there, it will be great.

DayZ Frostline DLC Gets Review Bombed; Dev Says “No One is Forcing Players to Buy It”

DayZ Frostline DLC gets review-bombed for its price and content. Dev responds, saying "No one is forcing players to buy it."

diana45peters535d ago

Yes, I saw that! The DayZ Frostline DLC has indeed faced a lot of backlash from players who feel that the $26.99 price tag is too high for what's included. The DLC adds a new snow-covered map called Sakhal, but many players feel it doesn't offer enough new content to justify the cost.

Bohemia Interactive's CEO, Marek Spanel, responded to the criticism by pointing out that the studio has received very little revenue per hour of gameplay from the game over the years. He even referenced the Beatles song "Please Please Me" in his response, highlighting the frustration with the situation.

It's definitely a heated debate.
