The 8th Generation Console Wars: Is it over all ready?

So the big two have finally locked horns and it really has turned into a bit of a blood bath. June 10th 2013 will be remembered for Microsoft’s nearly moment and for that speech. I refer of course to Sony’s Jack Tretton who went for the jugular and wasn’t going to let go.

I'm starting to wonder if the Xbox One will be the last M$ console.

They seem to have done everything in their power to make the new console as gamer unfriendly as possible.

Blachek4743d ago

I see them widening the audience, the focus on gaming remains. I think their fault lies in educating people on their cloud computing and the potential that has vs. PS4 and it's dedicated ram.

ryandebraal4743d ago

I'm not sure what you mean?

If you mean that "distributed processing" has advantages over dedicated RAM, I just can't agree with you.

Unless you are located in one of the 8 major metropolitan areas of the US having game content streamed to you will be shoddy at best.

Blachek4743d ago

I know that console based computing will trump cloud based computing, due to bandwidth and latency. I am saying however that the argument that is most prevalent on this site is that XB1 has only dedicated 5GB of General Ram while PS4 has dedicated 7GB of Graphic Specific Ram to Gaming. The fact that XB1 has a custom built processor architecture specific to this console isnt considered when it comes to the argument of which console can squeeze out more power... and considering your points of connectivity the cloud will still play a role in the XB1 in MS' ideal situstion.

Virtual_Reality4742d ago (Edited 4742d ago )

Probably they will remove the DRM and the other restrictions in a long term.

The only reason I got an xbox and a large amount of people are like me was because I couldn't afford the ps3, I wanted the PS3 so bad but the xbox was half the price so I settled with it. Thats about to happen to microsoft but its going to be a lot worse.

Typical-Guy4742d ago

Omg... Already became All ready!

On topic, I don't think so, the policies just heated the competition. I really couldn't care less who sells more. I'm looking forward to more quality games on pPS4, oh and as much as I hate to say it, with all the anti consumer practices MS is taking, they'll lead this gen somehow. Mark my words!

NameRemoved00174742d ago (Edited 4742d ago )

If Microsoft leads this generation then:

Godmars2904742d ago

Then you need to worry about what and how much damage MS does before and if they give up. They are throwing money in hopes of doing damage to Sony afterall.

MRMagoo1234742d ago

MS will find it impossible to lead this gen its being out preordered everywhere, they arent even releasing in asia till 2014 they will be behind sales from the get go and it will only widen the gap with time, ps4 is going to be outselling and out performing the xbone from day one.

xboxisthefuture2154742d ago

I think xbox will prevail u may be able to acces games with silver account which is free digital downloads may mean cheaper game prices and playstation 4 to me just seems like a ps3 wih better graphics thats it with xbox u pay for the experience and I think it's worth it xbox does pretty much everything Sony does plus more yea price is steep but considering you will have it for maybe 10 years to come I think it's a good buy

mxrider21994742d ago

what more does it do that the ps doesnt oo and does it download games while you are playing others can you tell it to download games from your phone etc etc do you get real free games that arnt 6 yrs old and are not selling anymore etc etc

PositiveEmotions4742d ago

Imo i think exboxdone theres so much bad commente for xb1 that i wont be surprised if xb1 is the last gaming/tv console.

Long live sony for doing things right!!!

ginsunuva4742d ago

Yup, I haven't seen a sane person waging war on behalf of the xbox yet.

They for sure chose the worst way to deal with it

Funny considering Bruce left half way through development and now we get told there was an internal conflict with the story direction.

Makes you think…

HectixRose39d ago

I think it was good decision, if he was still alive, he would have been a mascot just like Kratos, drake and many others. These old dudes gotta die for new characters to take center stage with their own storyline. They keep dragging the emotional baggage into many sequels and eventually the story just turns into absolute shit show.

JEECE39d ago

It was ironic because people complained heavily about the story in the Uncharted games not having sufficient stakes because all the key characters always survived, despite the dangerous situations they were always in. Then ND killed a character in a more serious series and everyone lost their minds. Just shows that people don't always really want the thing they say they want.

CantThinkOfAUsername38d ago

I thought the more common complaint about Uncharted franchise was how the main cast are the good guys acting so nonchalantly while killing hundreds in cold blood (aka the dissonance between gameplay and story cutscenes). They just did it again in Part II.

Soy39d ago

Didn't have to kill him. Just have them part ways or Joel can "retire," whatever.

DarXyde39d ago

I don't think he would necessarily need to become a mascot (and besides, technically, I'd say Ellie is... So regardless, someone was going to be).

From a narrative perspective, I do think it has a similar effect to Ricky dying in Boyz N Da Hood: very likeable character, and you're really motivated to see the get back—in this case, it's more intense because it's an interactive experience. Most people hated Abby, but I get what they were after with portraying the cycle of violence and revenge—unfortunately, the game appears to want to take the side of the bad people.

But I will say that if Joel survived, it does become harder to tell an interesting story. What COULD have happened is an exploration into the rift between Joel and Ellie after the trolley dilemma events of the first game. It could have been interesting to see Abby out for revenge at the same time Ellie hated Joel.

Ashunderfire8639d ago

Sorry just had to say this lol! RICKYYYY!

Man Cuba Gooding Jr was miscast in that movie, but that part was cringey it was sad and funny at the same time man.

Ashunderfire8639d ago (Edited 39d ago )

I understand but the way they went about killing Joel, was poorly executed. Even the show of the Last of Us games tried to improved it, but it was just as bad. Well at least Joel got to know the reason why he had to die, before the death happened in the show. That part gave us the full context, but the game just let it happen with no pay off.

Joel death should have been a midway thing through the story, so we at least get to play him a little more with Ellie. Abby didn’t need to be this Hulk looking woman, but more like the show Abby which is a beater idea in my opinion.

The only ND game that was so disappointing to me I couldn't finish it.

pwnmaster300039d ago

Honestly as much as I loved the game, they could have just not killed him off.
I get it creator vision and all but killing a character that made you millions is just wrong imo. At least have him go down fighting.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle39d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Final Fantasy VIII is great and you are always the first to defend it in the comments
