E3 2013: More Killer Instinct News Released

"From skepticism being raised after it was rumored to be a free-to-play game, to fans’ disappointment that it will not be developed by Rare itself, but Double Helix, it’s been a rocky fallout for the Xbox One revival of Killer Instinct. However, some good news has come in, as Double Helix released some more information to fans of the series, which includes the announcement of three more classic Killer Instinct characters who will be making a return."

OOOOH, so Ultimate Combos and No Mercys, elements that have been in the franchise since its inception, will not be available the day the game comes out, might not even implemented into the game, and, if they are made available, might be DLC?!

Seriously, Microsoft, you're just deteriorating into straight-up cartoon villainy now.

from the beach4739d ago

Bring back a long-requested classic series, get branded 'cartoon villains'.

DVAcme4739d ago

Yeah, bring back a long-requested classic series without it being made by the original creators, charging you for the privilege to be able to use more than once character and making you pay for features that are staples of the series and were available in the game back when it was made 19 years ago.

Seriously, dude.

Sitdown4739d ago (Edited 4739d ago )

From my understanding you can buy the game at full retail with all the characters, or you can go the cheaper route and just purchase the characters you want......but you could probably care less about that, you are more concerned with bashing. Just like you could probably wouldn't care that most of the major people from Rare or go, so it would have just been the company developing it, not necessarily the original key people. Our never being made at all. But again if you do research, it sort of takes away your ability to blindly bash.

Perjoss4739d ago

Don't be ridiculous, if they did it right people would not be complaining, can you NOT see all the mistakes they are making (with pretty much everything, not just this classic and much loved franchise), surely you cannot be that blind.

HarryMasonHerpderp4739d ago (Edited 4739d ago )

@from the beach

Are you going to reply to DVAcme?
I would like to know your response to all of the BS that has come along with this long requested classic series.
I'm confused as to why you would defend these issues.

from the beach4739d ago

Who the hell wanted Rare to be making it? Some of the original developers are giving guidance to a specially assembled team at Double Helix, who are extremely enthusiastic for the series. It's just about the best possible outcome.

The pay to play aspect was, in their own words, "miscommunicated". There's basically a demo which you can buy more characters for - along with a full version launching day one.

Impressions from people who've played this are through the roof positive, by the way.

HarryMasonHerpderp4739d ago (Edited 4739d ago )

I think people wanted a proper full retail Killer Instinct. The franchise has huge potential to compete in the fighting game genre. Microsoft seem to be playing it safe with a digital only version though. An why not just make a full retail version and that's it? why make a money grabbing alternative? I agree that the game looks great but the business model not so much. There's just no need for it. As for the miscommunication that's Microsoft's fault and they've been doing it since the Xbox One reveal.

from the beach4738d ago

What do you mean 'proper full retail'?

It would be the same game whether it's downloadable or on a disc.

The combo system is a bit more “streamlined” so that anyone will be able to pull off big combos.

Wow,just wow.The thing i loved about KI was you needed to learn the combos. Now anyone can do it??Fark this game KI lost it's identity.

WrAiTh Sp3cTr34739d ago

Lol don't act like Cinder's combo's took skill. Ijs...but yeah the other characters were harder.

Kyosuke_Sanada4739d ago

Should have went with NetherRealm Studios.......

biRdy4739d ago

True but I'm sure they are hard at work on the next-gen MK

AngelicIceDiamond4739d ago

At least the guys are working closely with Rare so they don't screw this up.

Killer Instinct is like the forgotten cousin at the fighting game family reunion.

yeah they were such good and fun games but they never really reached the mainstream audience. Killer Instinct was widely known and respected.

Cacabunga409d ago

Killer instinct is great, especially on snes but it’s not the most underrated fighter.. for me it’s Power Stone. So much potential in this series

Jawsh666409d ago

Bloody Roar was a game that had a sick concept but wasn’t made the best. I’d say Killer Instinct was the opposite of that, it was well made but the roster of characters were so similar to every other fighting game in that era that it ended up feeling like more of the same. I could be wrong that’s just how I remember it at the time and I played a ton of KI on SNES because it was one of the first games I owned.

PRIMORDUS409d ago

I loved this game in the arcade, my main was Jago, Ultra Combo!!! https://www.youtube.com/wat...

DivineHand125408d ago

That combo was way overkill 😂

PRIMORDUS408d ago

I know haha, I loved Jago.

Bathyj409d ago

You're kidding?
It enjoyed probably more success than it deserved.
Unlike Tobal 2

MeteorPanda408d ago

Tobal 2 was awesome. Sold really well cause art similarity to dragon ball

jjb1981409d ago

I remember trying my hardest to learn that "Ultra... Ultra.... Ultra...." finish. Such a great fighting game.

Popsicle409d ago (Edited 408d ago )

I can tell you definitely got some SNES time in. The slight differences in the ports due to hardware constraints were interesting. For example, the arcade version was Ultraaaa Coooommboooooooo! versus Ultra….Ultra….Ultra on the SNES.

Though SNES overachieved as a port for as demanding as a game KI was.The arcade version was one of the first cabinets with a dedicated hard drive and the SNES version was 32 megabyte cartridge which was huge for that system at the time.

jjb1981407d ago

Yeah, for sure. My local childhood arcade was always packed and it was hard to get a game in but once the SNES version came out, I was hooked. I can still feel the click of the power button.

Barlos917d ago

I'll have to get this! Been a big fan of KI since the very first one.

Petebloodyonion917d ago (Edited 917d ago )

I love KI (still play the old arcade version) but feel like the Xbox version is like a big intimidating chessboard with no easy way to instruct you to play chess.
The game is so deep in terms of little things to do that it makes Smash Bros melee look like a casual experience.
Honestly, doing a combo Breaker is punish/reward by itself but hey you can add a counterbreaker.
Here's what you also need to know
Breaking Shadow-linker
Instincts
Shadow counter
Auto double,
linker, manual
ender
etc,

There isn't going to be any chance of this being played at tournaments unless it appears on all platforms like all fighting games.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH921d ago

SF5 didn’t appear on all consoles and was still played at Tournaments. I’ve seen KI tournaments recently so I don’t think your opinion is accurate.
