CVG - Sports games often get short shrift at E3, lost in the ear-molesting maelstrom of shooters and actioners. But the transition from one generation to the next represents a crucial time for major sports games. By being better prepared for the last jump, EA was able to put critical as well as commercial distance between its FIFA series and Konami's PES. The Japanese game has struggled to recover ever since. So with another step change in power looming, what now? There's little point precisely rendering every blade of grass, given everyone plays with the camera zoomed out.

Not all outdated football games are worthless
