"This would therefore position Nintendo to have a single, standard model on retail shelves"

The way it should've been since the beginning IMO ;)

Gr814736d ago

I'm actually agreeing with LOL_WUT.

I'll go a step further though; This model never should have existed. White and Black should of only come with the Delux 32Gb set up. Also, instead of N-Land, NSMBU should be included IN THE BOX!

Moving forward, Nintendo should bundle NSMBU with 32Gb White or Black models, cut the price to $299.99 and offer early adopters an ambassador program. Maybe include a Wii Mote +/CCP in the new box.

See what E3 brings.

guitarded774735d ago

Definitely E3 announcement incoming if this is legit.

ziratul4735d ago

No matter 8 or 32 - both sizes are completely useless. U need at least 150 GB (for now) 500 GB+ is the best option.

yugovega4735d ago

@ziratul
you obviously havn't noticed the wiiu doesn't need that much space. vc games and dlc doesn't take up much space. and most external hd work with it making upgrading easier then any other system. my deluxe has plenty of space.

Neonridr4735d ago

ziratul, this isn't the PS3 where you have to install huge chunks of the game just so that it can play properly because of the slow read speed of the PS3's bluray player.

32 GB is more than enough, I have AC3, Scribblenauts, Trine 2, Nano Assault Neo, Puddle, Mighty Switch Force, a bunch of VC games and a couple of demos all stored on my hard drive. Sure it's getting pretty full at this point (thanks to AC3 being like 17GB), but I also have a 250GB portable hard drive sitting by my computer that I am going to attach to the back. Why increase the price of the console by like $75-100 for an included 250GB HD when you can buy any external HD you want and attach it to the Wii U?

it makes the wii-u basic model now a collectors item.

Game4life4736d ago

i feel like this gen (ps3/360/wii) was the beginning of confusion for some gamers. there have been so many models for each console. Keeping the console at one model and one price is better for consumer as they dont miss on anything extra like storage space or wifi or anything of that sort (even though its a bit more expensive than the base model)

ceballos77mx4736d ago

Sony's been doing this since the ps1 era, nintendos mistake was the name the wii was basically a casual gamers console, whom wont probably spend more on a new console, and the hardcore crowd sees the name and just turns away from it.

MikeMyers4736d ago

The basic model isn't selling very well, worse than the deluxe model. I expect a price drop of the deluxe model to $299 at E3 while dropping the basic.

Azrabain4735d ago

WINNING FORMULA IF I OWNED NINTENDO WOULD BE TO! At E3 lower the price to $299 with either black or white as color options but both being the deluxe model, no basic option so less confusion. Next I would pack in downloadable versions of New Super Mario Bros. Wii U along with Nintendo Land. If I really did own Nintendo I would actually change the name of the Wii U to Super Wii U or maybe completely rename it because Nintendo screwed up using the name Wii in the title it would have been better to probably call it Wii 2 as thats alot less confusing! Wii Ultra how about that?

Shnazzyone4735d ago

potentially indicates a incoming price drop. Ditching the tiers to go for the deluxe bundle at a lower price. could be good for nintendo.

brewin4736d ago

I say a price drop and new bundle are imminent. There should be only one model and it should include Mario U, Nintendo Land, and a pro controller along with at least 32 gig for $279. If the One and PS4 are sub $400 this will need to be even lower. Its time to pull out all the stops Nintendo...

Chidori4736d ago (Edited 4736d ago )

Two controllers and two games for $279? That's absurd. Not even Santa Claus is that generous. Both models should be dropped 50 bucks and I think everyone would be happy.

They really ought to give people more of a reason to buy the basic edition. Wii Sports U needs to happen and packaged with the basic bundle. Make it happen Nintendo!

THamm4736d ago

Dang I just bought one for 239.00

L6RD7BLU34736d ago

LOL you got it at Target.com right because I just got mines there as well

THamm4736d ago

Yes, thought 60 off was too good to pass up especially since I don't see an XboxOne in my immediate future unless MGS is exclusive, which isn't the case I hope

DivineAssault 4736d ago

not enough storage in the original.. The deluxe barely has any either.. Nintendo shouldve put @ least 120GB in em.. If they plan on selling digital anyway.. I know u can use external HDDs but no1 wants to attach something to their consoles.. If this ends up true, its a better move, however small it may be

Gr814736d ago

vocal about Nintendo continuing to tie accounts to the hardware. Seperate storage devices are cheap, but if my console bricks suddenly all the games I bought bricks with it? Totally archaic.

RedHawkX4736d ago

I agree i was like wow the wii u has small storage. I mean yah you can buy an external hardrive but why would I want to do that when I just spent 350 on a wii u delux?

I wish from the start it was wii u 120 GB hardrive comes with nintendo land free like the free game you get with the wii and be 300 dollars. you also get the digital download promotion and other things that come with the current delux.

deafdani4736d ago

Well, I got a 2 TB external hard drive for 90 bucks, which works perfectly with my 8 GB Basic Wii U model. I'm quite happy with that. :)

Father__Merrin4736d ago

bastards!!!!!!!!! i have an 8 gig white

darthv724736d ago

mine is actually a 328gb white unit.

I had a spare 320gb external hdd and it works great with it.

deafdani4736d ago

Bitch, please. Mine is a 2008GB white unit - as in, 8 GB plus 2 TB hard drive.

:P

Summons754736d ago

I do too but I've had an used (well I did have things not it but less than 109 gigs) 1tb hard drive so I didn't care. I feel this is how all console should be really, would cheapen the price.

Dj7FairyTail4736d ago

I have basic model with 200gb storage

U.S. patent examiner rejects Nintendo’s summoning characters patent as obvious: non-final ruling

The rejection is non-final (and even when such rejections are labeled as “final”, the process is far from over, given that there can be, at minimum, an appeal to the Federal Circuit).

Good, as they should! A game mechanic like that shouldn't be locked behind a patent, and Nintendo didn't invent it either.

PRIMORDUS51d ago (Edited 51d ago )

Nintendo wants to keep wasting money on bullshit lawsuits, real smart in this economy. They should put that money aside for other game projects. On the other hand, I don't care if they waste it all either, and they are screwed in the future maybe that will teach them a lesson.

Nintendo Suing U.S. Government Over Tariffs

The fact that you have ANY disagrees will forever baffle me. And to the (apparent) MAGA contingent that exists on this website, enjoy your 8-9 dollar gas.

AuraAbjure75d ago (Edited 75d ago )

Yes, they had better be pissed after Trump told them the way they rip off the USA is over.

EveryPlatformGamer77d ago

LOL I read this on gaff, will they refund the money back to the gamers? highly unlikely. Didn't they just raise prices and pass it onto the gamers? Only Nintendo would send out the Ninjas to the US government.

-Foxtrot76d ago

That’s what I was thinking, imagine them winning hypothetically, getting a s**t load of money back which they would have lost if they hadn’t raised their prices and it’s business as normal.

It would just mean people paid more for no reason since they got the money back anyway.

Outside_ofthe_Box76d ago (Edited 76d ago )

A lot of companies partially passed the cost to consumers instead of all of it. They would still have to at least pay that back to gamers, but we know that won't happen. What's also sad is that prices won't come back down after the initial hike caused by tariffs.

People didn't understand the full repercussions of tariffs. That alone should have cost him the presidency if people knew it was a permanent price hike for consumers

Inverno76d ago

The people should sue these companies for having to over pay cause of these tariffs.

Eonjay76d ago

Naw they should sue the government for forcing the tax to begin with. No one reasonably expects these companies to absorb the taxes. Many smaller companies tried and were shut down or faced to increase prices to try to maintain their business. The tariffs effect everyone.

Inverno75d ago

I meant it mostly as a joke cause we all know the costs of these tariffs were passed onto the consumer. But it's seems no matter how vocal we are here in the states our "representatives" don't seem to care enough to represent us. And things are about to get worse.

Killer2020UK75d ago

The companies were doing what the law required then to do, the tariffs however were illegally implemented. Usually it's criminals we punish, you seem to have different ideas 🤷‍♂️
