Mass Effect 2 'soon but not real soon'

Matt Atwood chats to GameSpot about that lesbian love scene, the controversy surrounding the first game, and the sequels.

The game was briefly banned in Singapore and caused something of a furore due to the inclusion of the possibility of playing as a female character and having a relationship with a mono-gendered alien (who looks very much like a female).

BioWare's senior manager Matt Atwood says that this is a little unfair. He told GameSpot, "The interesting thing about Liara [the mono-gendered blue alien in question] is that in her species what they do is they join their minds and their minds become one." He said that he thought that the scenes were "really tastefully handled."

One can only hope. I'd like to know what else happens and have my dialog I selected through-out my playthrough to mean something. Well that and I only have 2 more achievements to get >< but I suppose that's a good thing this is one of the few games that I just needed to get 'em all. It was like pokemon!

I just started playing mass effect Sunday and all I can say is WOW, just plain and simple WOW. This game is freaking amazing. The frame rate dips more than I would like but once I disabled the movie grain (didn’t like the effect anyway) the frame rate was a lot smoother. I am just blown away by how believable the world is and how detailed the dialog is. The voice acting is simply the best I have ever seen in a game. The game had me so captivated I was dreaming of thorian plants, geth and rouge specters all night long.

Mass Effect - N7 DAY 2025

Bioware writes: "Like you, we’ve heard the rumors lately. You’ve made it clear you care deeply about what’s next. So let’s start by setting the record straight: the next Mass Effect game is in development, and EA and BioWare remain committed to telling more stories in this universe."

I expected nothing and I'm still disappointed

Like with Fallout, it's starting to feel studios are using TV / Film adaptations when they have no game info to talk about.

toxic-inferno203d ago

I feel the same way.

I mean, how difficult would it be for them to release SOMETHING of substance? Another short trailer? A couple of proper hints? A short story set during the original trilogy, but focused on fringe characters?

Hopefully they're working so hard on the game that they don't have time. But still, with every passing year and so little to show, the franchise will be slipping further and further from people's minds.

Profchaos203d ago

Yeah agree it's almost a cop out since Dev times are 5 to 10 years just throw out a few seasons instead you get them done in a year

jznrpg203d ago

I still haven’t beat Andromeda. I am waiting for a lull of good games in my backlog

P_Bomb203d ago

So the TV show will take place after the OG trilogy. I wonder which ending they’ll use?

Rebel_Scum203d ago

Should’ve just posted a picture of an Elcor saying “regretfully, we have nothing to share.”

Bro missing companions: Legion, Grunt, Samara/Morinth, Javik, EDI

anast536d ago

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine536d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast536d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman536d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

anast536d ago

Liam lol I can't stand that dude.

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan784d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave784d ago (Edited 784d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
