Bethesda is Lying about Prey 2: Ex-Human Head Developer

Ex-Human Head developer Jason L Blair has alleged that Bethesda is lying about Prey 2.

Jason alleged that recent rumor of Arkane Studio getting the development rights of Prey 2 has given new life to a lot of old lies.

-"Prey 2 was a full game. And a crazy fun one. The team was small but you wouldn't have known it."
-"I was heartbroken when Prey 2 went into limbo. Human Head deserved to have that game released. Frankly, they needed it."
-"What happened to Prey 2, from where I sat, was political. And petty. And potentially litigable. Human Head had a great game."

So HumanHead had a complete and finish version of Prey 2 but Bethesda didn't like it so put the project on hold and eventually ended up handing the project Arkane Studios, is what I'm guessing what happen.

yes exactly..............

You can't believe how much bad is Bethesda ...

Klonopin4738d ago

That really sucks. The gameplay footage looked very interesting and was really looking forward to it. I just recently played through the original PREY on my PC using Sikkmod. Damn shame...very disappointed in Bethesda.

Raf1k14738d ago

If that's true then I can understand why some people at Arkane apparently aren't keen on working on it. They probably feel bad about taking a taking that someone else has put so much effort into and completed only to have it given to another studio.

I even signed the petition for this game. Bethesda should at least release another trailer for E3. It would be a shame seeing great potential go to waste. we need more cyberpunk games, not less.

zeal0us4738d ago

Prey and Prey 2 aren't cyberpunk games. Cyberpunk game would be Deus Ex: Human Revolution, ShadowRun(original not remake), Syndicate and System Shock for example.

elhebbo164738d ago (Edited 4738d ago )

Even though its story/background doesnt technically make it a cyberpunk game, it definitely has the feel for it. its a dark city filled with neon lights, theres high tech stuff, and the city is full of crime (thats why hes a bounty hunter). aside from the aliens, this is a cyberpunk game. have you seen the gameplay? Prey 2 is NOT Prey 1.

Human Analog4738d ago

I have to agree with elhebbo16... From what I have seen Prey 2 looks like Blade Runner. Hence the cyberpunk connection.

Human Analog4737d ago

Three "people" disagree that it looks like blade runner?!?.... I guess they have never seen that movie. THAT has got to be the only reason..... Well unless they are just being trolls.

Errefus4738d ago

Really looking forward prey 2, hope it doesn't get canned...

I really liked the first one, although it's been a long time since I've played it. However, the CG trailer they showed didn't have the same feel at all. Instead of this horrifying human abduction sphere city with spirit walking storyline aspects, we get a vibrant nightlife city with some average joe bounty hunter.

I don't know, it just seemed to reflect what the industry does with a lot of more unique franchises (not saying Prey was SUPER unique, but it had its many moments). Strip them of their "soul" and make them appeal to a mass, generic audience.

I know it's a lot to base off of one CG trailer, but the point of a trailer is to give off a feel for the game, and it was way off from what the first game felt like. It seemed like Prey in name only, which is sad.

elhebbo164738d ago

I dunno man, tell me when was the last time we had an open world alien night city?

Dr Pepper4738d ago

I'm not saying it wouldn't have been a good game or cool idea, just not deserving of the name Prey based on what they showed.

You could say "we never get open world alien cities", but if you look at the two games, and tell me that the "alien hunter badass in a nightclub-like city" is more unique than "culturally conflicted native american who splits his time spirit walking and being constantly hunted on an inverted harvesting sphere" then I would probably assume you thought Splinter Cell Conviction was the best Splinter Cell, or Hitman Absolution was the best Hitman, or that Ghost Recon Future Soldier was the best Ghost Recon.

My point is those games were forgettable, average experiences because they partially, or fully, abandon what made the original games so fantastic.

Bethesda lying NO. They don't do that ever.

"Tommy saving the planet from an army of aliens after they abducted him and his entire bar, with the game ending on the promise that Tommy would be back, but that promise was never fulfilled"

The thing is with the original Prey 2 that Tommy wasn't even the main character, they replaced him with some generic looking space bounty hunter. It was a refreshing change to see an awesome Native American character with ancestral like powers fight aliens yet they ditched him. It was only after an outcry they showed much later in a new preview that Tommy was in the game as an NPC.

I'd have prefered a real sequel with Tommy as the main character, literally picking right up from the originals ending.

As for Eight Days...Sony really needs to pick this up

If Amy Hennig was still at ND, I'd have loved to see her tackle it after what she did with Uncharted.

I thought that was awesome too, and honestly i wish people werent so damn critical about cultural variety in games. I feel like people try to ruin devs lives if even one detail is off about their culture in a game and so everyone is too scared to try anymore

isarai805d ago (Edited 805d ago )

One of the lead engine programmers for Prey 2 at Human Head was my programming instructor when i was taking game design. This game was in limbo at the time and we asked once and only once about this game, the misery in his eyes when he told us "this is the 1st and only time ill ask you to never ask me about that game" was something ill never forget😅 he used a couple assets through the curriculum for teaching purposes but nothing very tangible. Just a function here, a 3d prop there. Such a shame. Years later i saw him at a magic tournament, we caught up and he still thinks about that game and how it's "practically done" probably sitting on a drive somewhere

shinoff2183805d ago (Edited 805d ago )

Practically done? Jeez that fking blows because that looked much more interesting then what bethsada made. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed the one bethsada made.

Lmno looked interesting.
I'd knock titanfall and fez off the list. Add something else. Scarface 2 man only if would've been awesome. Prey 2 should be higher to. Either way not a bad list. Out of 20 there's only 2 I'd hate on.

isarai805d ago

That gen got a lot of games canned right before the finish line. Cipher Complex, Battlefront 3, legacy of kain dead sun just to name a few

XiNatsuDragnel805d ago

Games that need to come out: Battlefront 3, 8 days, and timesplitter 4.

Skuletor803d ago

One that's not on the list is Killing Day, I remember seeing the trailer in 2005 and being impressed at the time. Being Ubisoft you know it would have been a AAAA game too, lol
2 Days to Vegas and The Getaway 3 are two other games that seemed promising but never came out.
