Cloud this cloud that. I'm sick of Microsoft and devs. Talking about the posabilities with the cloud. If that was a huge leap for the posabilities on Xbox one why don't they give us a demonstration on how it will work instead of telling us with there mouth.

With all this cloud stuff Microsoft is pushing XBL prices will undoubtedly increase(doesn't have to be @ launch) and will it be mandatory now? unless people expect them to offer all these so called features for free haha.

All consoles will have its pros and cons, and this one for the Xbox One.

Streaming something to a console just needs servers and technology in the back-end. So neither console has advantage. However Gaikai infrastructure is already built to be the fastest. Microsoft is building from scratch so I wonder which console will offer it 1st?

Not much of an advantage for people that don't connect to the internet. Also, not much of an advantage when developers can't count on the cloud computing being available for every single customer. Not very fair to the Xbone users if one person gets a superior experience for the exact same game, on the exact same console, at the exact same price.

If M$ excuse is cloud gaming too take on tasks such as AI/textures/sound to offset the limited hardware and that the system needs a online connection anyway....this requires a high speed connection. 65% of USA does not have high speed and worldwide high speed is in the teens...

I'd say Sony still has an advantage with cloud. Since they bought gaikai they haven't leaked too much on what they are working on.

So it looks like Just Cause 3 might be Xbox One exclusive or timed exclusive due to how Avalanche Studios has been sticking up for MS.

On the the Cloud thing, this idea that Cloud will make your console more powerful is bunk. Local hardware is far more effective, this is why PS4 has 1/3 more GPU cores, faster and more available RAM.

But lets talk about Cloud for a moment. There are difficult obstacles to consider for Cloud computing. First it requires stable high speed connection just to be applicable for this purpose. Secondly, there are latency issues with relying this data back and forth. Lastly, it requires console resources at the same time.

It is nice to talk about and dream of the defunk Phantom console that was supposed to be based off this tech some years ago, but it seems MS is using this as a way to counter attack PS4's superior hardware, when in fact Sony has its own huge Cloud infastructure with Gaikai.

This is Total BS - There is almost nothing you can do more quickly on compute via a remote server somewhere else on the web, that is of use to a game at run-time. At best your Internet connection will offer you around 6MB/s of bandwidth, the average in the world is an insignificant fraction of that. 6MB/s is slower than reading from something like a USB port.

I hope Sony doesn't do this with any Single player games. Multiplayer is fine but single player should be 100& offline and then you can have cloud computing for co-op and MP. Otherwise the games we buy are essentially worthless without having to be always connected.

Did every journalist out there forget Sony had Gaikai ages ago? Why do people keep acting like all of the sudden Microsoft are the only people using a cloud..?

Microsoft was late to the party as always, Sony had Gaikai a while ago and Gaikai hands down is the best cloud gaming service there was. Seeing as Sony has invested close to a billion dollars into it on top of how great it already was before they purchased it, means it will only be better.

I'm not sure I like where next gen is headed. The shift towards relying on the internet has been so gradual most haven't even noticed it yet.

At first it was a small patch here then a little update there. And ever so slowly those grew into dlc lined patches, and that gave way to full blown dlc. That DLC in turn became more and more frequent.

Today you'd be hard pressed to find a game title that stands on it's own merits without any online presence. Over the years online content has became so abundant, other concepts such as season & online passes were deemed practical.

If next gen follows strongly into cloud gaming, sooner or latter it's going starting feel like your borrowing a game experience instead of buying it.

What other changes will cloud processing bring to the ever changing world of console gaming - only time will tell.

Let's say devs do use the cloud to offload some of the computational tasks. What happens when someone tries to play that game with no internet after the initial login? Will their game look worse? If someone plays online, will their game look better? If the internet goes out, will the game stop working until I have access to the magic in the cloud? But but but..I thought the Xbox One wouldn't require a constant internet connection...

People can be so naive. Cloud processing to help with the graphical fidelity and AI of games is but a dream. The connection you have would have to be phenomenal with close to zero latency. As far as I'm concerned the cloud processing stuff is just fluff. What will matter most when it comes to processing is the specs. PERIOD. People need to stop making excuses and deflecting Microsoft's shortcomings and just accept the console for what it is. One that doesn't have the gamers in mind.

Well I won't be getting it with my net connection cause it won't handle that kind of data speed fluidly.

Basically, Microsoft is making the cloud computing seem like it greatly increases the power of the Xbox One when in fact its nominal at best AND extremely limited in what it can improve at the same time. And what about the cost to implement cloud computing tasks to games wherein the PS4 doesn't have it, or the resources to make those tasks that the cloud would work on functional while offline and make a smooth transition between the two for internet spikes.

Microsoft is hoping the PR spin of the magic of the cloud fools people into believing it increases the performance of the Xbox One. Unless countless people far more knowledgeable than I are wrong, don't believe the hype and buzzwords.

I don't understand how it's an advantage to be dependent on the cloud connection for a game to run well/optimally. What happens when MS stops supporting the Xbone in the next generation? I can't dust off my console to play old favorites like I do with my PS2 or Dreamcast?

Im sure sony can use gaikai to stream these types of things too during gameplay on physical or digital software.. I dont see why not if theyre able to stream full games, why not just stream extra tid bits of other things while you play?

Aside from online multiplayer, I Iiked the offline days better.

They are making online the prerequisite to play games that shouldn't require it in the first place. There is little to no gaming related reason to do that.

They've been far too quiet and ambiguous about it for it to have any sort of appreciable advantage over the PS4. If anything, it may level the playing field, with the PS4 reputed to be around 50% more powerful than the XBone, but I'd hardly call that an advantage anyway.

Yeah, a clear advantage! Sony doesn't have the ability to make you verify your games when you buy them and pay a fee if you bought it second hand that costs the price of the game. Sony also doesn't have the necessity to log in every 24 hours to ensure you are able to play those games and save your games, because if you didn't do that you can't play your xbox, this is where sony is losing the battle. Sony also doesn't have an optical device that's always on, the ability to watch tv as if it wasn't easy enough already, and jerk off the air to get screens to show up. Sony get your grip together! Whoever thought a gaming console that plays games was a good idea!

A couple of things I have been wondering about this cloud based boost MS are claiming.

1. What if I'm playing co-op and my buddy has a much faster connection, so is getting the advantage of the cloud compute AI. lighting etc, and I'm not. How will that impact game play and experience between us.

2. As the internet connections of most people are very variable, what baseline do devs code to? Do they assume everyone has at least 2Mbit and code to take advantage of that? Or do they not bother with the cloud processing because they know that the extra effort is not worth the pay back as there's no guarantee of bandwidth / speed.

3. What happens if I'm playing a game and my connection goes down. We know that the XBOne needs to dial home every 24 hours so can be used offline for periods of time - but if I lose connection mid game will I see a noticeable difference in the game (and if I don't notice anything, then what's the point of offloading in the first place!)

My feeling is that offloading to the cloud will just be used to allow a few cycles of GPU/CPU to be freed up, that can then be used to ensure a smoother frame rate rather than adding a significant amount of eye candy or better AI / lighting etc.

Microsoft's cloud processing is snake oil. Microsoft doesn't want you to own anything that you pay for & the cloud is the means to take all your ownership rights away. As a gamer,they disgust me.
