There is no small amount of passion between long time gamers and EarthBound. This seemingly obscure SNES RPG captured the hearts and minds of many, and it's fans still proudly proclaim their love to this day. So how does it fair in a modern context when nostalgia is erased from the equation? Quite well, it turns out.

Ever play a game a game only to discover at some point it transforms into a horror game? No? Well Netto's Game Room shares six games that do just that!
Not necessarily a ‘horror’ moment, but I remember feeling really tense and anxious when the Flood were first introduced in the original Halo. I never felt more on edge or nervous in that whole game as that moment. I think it was the whole buildup that something terrible was coming but you didn’t know exactly what.
Another non-horror game that had me feeling it was Subnautica. The deep dark depths, and knowing that sea monsters were lurking nearby, had me jumping at every sound.
I remember being scared of the Asylum level in the most recent Thief game from 2014.

Many indies try to capture the magic of Nintendo's urban RPG, but the game that comes closest is SEGA's crime drama, Yakuza: Like A Dragon.

IGN writes: Mother 3 is one of the most hotly-desired RPGs ever, having never received an official translation in North America despite the cult popularity of its predecessor, Earthbound. But over all these years, series creator Shigesato Itoi has never weighed in on the discussion - at least until now."
Some things are just timeless. Many games from the SNES era hold up so good today that many people long for the day of old when it was all about the story, imaginative worlds, and solid gameplay. You bought a game and played if for months on end without worrying about patches, dlc, or multiplayer. My group of friends played Earthbound and Chrono Trigger like they were the only games in existence. The fact that I can still go back 20 years later and enjoy these games just as much is a testament to their quality and longevity. It doesn't get much better than this and if those who have never played it give it a chance and actually play through it, it may just change lives.
I never got a chance to play this game back in the day, so this will be my first play-through. I hope it meets my expectations.
Probably the most underrated RPG at its time. A must-play for every RPG enthusiast out there.
Never played this back in the day. I was always one to sell off my old systems and games to get the latest. Man do I regret doing that. I'll be purchasing a Wii U strictly for the VC with remote gamepad play to rebuild my collection from the ground up. This game sits near the top of my must have list
I never understood all the talk about EarthBound. I played it a few years ago, but I found it to be below average.
