John Bedford (Modojo): We've been positively itching to get our hands on a full-blooded Sid Meier strategy game on our touchscreens for far too long. Civilization Revolution, that somewhat pared down take on the PC classic, was a fine port of the console edition but it barely scratched the surface of the series' potential. Watching the likes of PC conversions such as Talisman Prologue and Magic 2013 hit the App Store has only made the itch worse.

Free-to-play games aren’t exactly a new phenomenon on the App Store, but it felt like the balance of power really shifted away from premium affairs in 2013, with a much larger chunk of the notable new releases each week favoring the freebie model — even those from developers that had seemingly thrived with paid games in the past.

IGN: "Though it can’t match multiplayer of the iOS version, Sid Meier’s Ace Patrol’s tactical dogfights still soar on PC."
Sid Meier's Ace Patrol, the latest turn-based dogfighting game from the legendary Civilization creator, has launched today on Steam for £5.99 / $9.99.
Ace Patrol first launched to critical acclaim on iOS in May, but publisher 2K games is billing this as the "premium version" of the free-to-play mobile title.
