GTA 5 PC release date — our best guess, supported by mathematics

After the release of the new GTA 5 trailer, we became conspicuously aware, once again, of the absent PC release date for Rockstar’s next open world fiasco. So we reached our hands into the mists of Grand Theft Autos past, crunched some numbers, and came up with the best possible estimate of when the game will be announced and released for the PC.

RedDeadLB4773d ago

It's supported by f***-all, not mathematics. It depends from game engine to game engine and Rockstar's RAGE in it's current state is finally optimized for PCs in the form of Max Payne 3, which came out on PC only around two weeks after the console release. True, no PC announcement has or is happening currently, but judging by the last RAGE engine game which is MP3, it's more of a matter of choice than development woes.

DoomeDx4773d ago

Didnt rockstar say they rewrote the entire engine for GTA V?

Donnieboi4773d ago

How did this get approved as an "article". It's more an opinion piece. Their "mathematics" has no actual bearing on Rockstar's desire to make a PC version (although they should make it anyway).

steve30x4773d ago (Edited 4773d ago )

There is no guarantee that GTA V will be on PC. I want it on PC because I dont want to play it on my PS3 but I wont get my hopes up for a PC release unless RockStar announces a PC release.

SgtFuzzy-T4773d ago

damn you missleading title i saw the first few words and was like yes a release date for PC! then I continue just to find out that is a random guess WTF

Th3 Chr0nic4773d ago

things like this is why N4G is a joke

steve30x4772d ago

Two more reasons why this site is a joke is because they restrict you by the bubble system and the Agree / Disagree system. I am a member of a lot of other websites and this is the only website I know that restricts how many times you can comment.

Th3 Chr0nic4771d ago

they do that to keep the 4chaners in line

GTAV is coming to the PC!

This "NO PC version" hype is just created to get more console sales as the the HUGE success of GTIV on the PC spawned so many GREAT MODS that people may be thinking about holding off until the PC version.

Once you CRACKED the bullcrap GTAIV DRM (signing in 3 times just to play ONE game come on) it was a great experience and the Gameplay and Graphics Mods were spectacular.

steve30x4772d ago

Show us where its confirmed for PC?

ATi_Elite4772d ago

Do you really think GTAV is NOT coming to the PC?

Get a Clue! GTA started on the PC and Rockstar always releases a PC version.

I do not need a confirmation date to know it's coming cause we have gone though this crap since San Andreas.

A PC version is coming and all the wonderful Mods with it.

Rockstar launches official marketplace for mods

Rockstar has launched an official marketplace for "every server and every player" to buy mods: Cfx Marketplace.

I wonder how much of this isn't just taken work of others who have modded for free.

Edit: Also, great way for R* to take popular ideas and build them into GTAVI based on demand.

fr0sty130d ago

What I see happening here is, R* is going to ban mods in GTA6 UNLESS you buy them from the marketplace and R* then gets a cut of that sale.

ActualWhiteMan130d ago

Ah, perfect timing with them taking down the Bully online fan mod. Greedy a$$ company.

Christopher130d ago

It's okay as long as they get a cut of the money.

fr0sty130d ago

Expect R* to force it on you.

Snookies12130d ago

Yep, right there with you. I'll happily donate to a mod creator if it looks really cool, or if I enjoy it. But expecting payment up front? Nope, not touching it.

IanTH130d ago (Edited 130d ago )

I'm not entirely sure how to read this, as it doesn't seem exactly like an exact parallel to Bethesda's paid mods shenanigans.

Rather than single player stuff, this appears to be aimed solely on Cfx Servers. From what I've gleaned, apparently Rockstar bought the Cfx mod team several years ago, coming a few years after weird contentions led them to ban a few of their members. Ultimately, the question is if they plan to keep this contained to only online/servers.

I have to guess to a degree yes. It'd be pretty hard to "force" paid mods for single player when modding files locally on your own machine, but much easier for servers they'll control. So perhaps this is their soft launch ahead of GTA6 online and they'll clamp down more tightly on non-official servers going forward? Ever since they've become a 1 or 2 property studio, I haven't really cared much for Rockstar stuff, so I'm not entirely up on everything surrounding this. Sounds like it has the potential to be problematic further down the line, but right now fairly easy to ignore...I think lol.

PlayStation Store’s top downloads of 2025

O'Dell Harmon Jr. writes: "Before we say goodbye to 2025, let’s take a look back and see what were the most downloaded games of the year. It was a great time for sports, shooters, and some new PlayStation VR2 games. Sports favorites topped the charts in US/Canada and EU, with NBA 2K26 and EA Sports FC26, respectively.

Juggernaut GTA V found a home in the top three for both regions, with new 2025 release Battlefield 6 claiming second place in the US. Fortnite took top place for free-to-play games, and Beat Saber continues its PS VR2 success."

FH5 4th in Europe compared to North America 14th. Not surprising.

LucasRuinedChildhood132d ago

I think it shows how shortsighted it was for Sony to let go of Evolution and not get them to make some sort of competitor (open world Driveclub?) 10 years ago.

bionicstar131d ago (Edited 131d ago )

its a hard bet to make. hindsight is always 20/20.

Christopher131d ago

After Driveclub's reception, hard to say it would have done well enough to compete. It's easy to dream of such a thing, but to make it happen? It's taken how long for CoD to be dethroned? And it was dethroned by Hogwart's Legacy and has gained it right back just the next year.

It’s funny to watch the only games EU and USA agree on was Minecraft and back ops 7 both regions on 6 and 7 spot respectively other than that FIFA rules EU

gold_drake131d ago

I would like to see a list that has both free to play and paid games together, but at least we have this.

To this day GTA5 is a top downloaded game and it makes me wonder if the industry is really ready for GTA6. I imagine almost nothing else will sell during that game's release window.
