VG Republic Writes: Ghosts, that is what the newest Call of Duty will be known as and is made by famed developer Infinity Ward, instead of the traditional Modern Warfare series that has become a fan favorite. Each and every year the Call of Duty game that is released finds a way to top and becomes the best selling game of all time within its lifespan, but the clear favorite is that of the Modern Warfare series that has enjoyed the fast-selling games of all time in the past two iterations. Switching the formula when you have been making the same thing for three years running, and the way that the last title ended in its single player campaign (Who cares about that, I know, right?), seems like a likely scenario. Is this simply a smoke screen for what is to come for the next generation, as it is possible that Modern Warfare 4 could still be in the plans afterall.
The next entry in Microsoft and Activision's Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 will allegedly be a current-gen only release.
They finally figured out how to move more ppl over to the current gen. Took them long enough it's obvious to everyone, force these ppl to upgrade to a current console not meet them where they are.
This news broke late last week. This leak suggest 26 which has been rumored before. It's possible it could be 27.
well not really if you read the article, its stating that this is due to release with new xbox hardware which means they will be again catering to the previous gen right up until the next one launches to last replace it as previous gen. in saying that though cod games dont do anything special so probably fine to cater to older consoles as dont think theyd be doing much to warrant or take advanatge of the new consoles fully
So Switch 2 ain't even gonna get 2 years on the market before it's outpaced by an even bigger margin than it already will be..
Embarrassing for Nintendo, though I am still interested if they bring the right games and content.
As for COD, don't care for it.

Sounds like it is next gen only...but won't really be, because didn't they sign a contract to put COD on Nintendo consoles with feature parity for 10 years? It will always be cros gen because of that.
And people complaining about next gen being 2027/2028, let's see their thoughts on xbox starting it in 2026...
No way a next gen xbox launches next year, the chip would have leaked already, look how early people found the ps5/xbox chips, the pro chip, the switch 2 chip.....
I would not be shocked to see a new Xbox holiday 2026. They know Sony is launching end of 2027, this would essentially be their hail mary for what many seem to believe is their final console

Right. PS5 Pro is the halfway point, and going by the PS4 Pro, that would put PS6 out during Holiday 2028.
As for the next Xbox? Who knows. We don’t even know if it’ll be a traditional console, handheld, etc. All up in the air.
It's already been semi confirmed. Xbox next gen is 2026. Phil also hinted at it a long time ago.
the people complaining about next gen in 2027 just dropped $700 on a mid-gen refresh that so far has been proven to be very underwhelming (myself included)
I mean you’re getting 3 years at minimum out of a PS5 Pro if it drops end of 2027, I think that’s quite reasonable, especially given most people are trading up for $300
Many players on social media are now reporting unannounced matchmaking fixes have been put in place by Activision ranging from Call of Duty 3 to Modern Warfare 2 to Black Ops 2, on Xbox 360. Players are reporting that player counts are updating, lobbies forming, and matchmaking times have been reduced. Neither Activision nor Microsoft have commented on the matter when reached out to at this time. This is currently impacting both 360 and BC versions of the games. PS3 is not affected at this time.

Multiple users coming forward saying the games are finally working again after years of server issues. Note that not all issues such as player counts are totally fixed at this time however matchmaking is fully working again. With legacy Call of Duty games releasing on Game Pass within the next 2 years, it does make sense for these servers to eventually be corrected. Good to see the preservation of these legendary games. Hopefully PS3 receives the same treatment for these legacy titles!
I can confirm the Call of Duty 2 through Black Ops 2 are fully working now and matchmaking is very fast. Player counts are still messed up on MW2 but all other games work perfectly fine. BO1/2 community theater has been disabled so hackers are pretty rare now as infections cannot be distributed. I have not run into any modders on MW2 or BO1 yet. Good bit of people on WaW and MW3 as well. Call of Duty 3 is also back up and running after some years. The games are also currently on sale for around $10 a piece on the Xbox Store! Conspiracy theory: MS have been planning on purchasing ABK for a long time. They let Sony outbid them for having console-exclusive CoD stuff/being first for certain dlc so the PlayStation player base would increase.
Years later, MS buy ABK, with plans to make CoD either exclusive/platform exclusive features etc with the release of a new console (Xbox Series X2?) So the established CoD player base migrates over to their platform, taking a huge percentage off Sony?

I also think to addd: Sony in a loose loose situation with the 10 year thing. I thought that from the start. Reason being they would technically be doing free marketing for COD. Any expose is good exposure and furthering the 'brand name'. So although sony would get profit for a while in the big picture they would be doing the dirty on themselves.
The Japanese execs obviously are not dumb and realise this too and that's why they fought so hard.
In general though this whole thing leaves a bad taste in the mouth with everyone's lies being out in the open and I think a lot will call it a day with cod. I know I've brought my last one.

Would not be surprised if MS fully restores old CoD on Xbox including patching mods and fixing player counts and lets PS3 versions rot away, nostalgia is a drug and Game Pass release of the old games pushes them to fix it as they would be the only Game Pass titles that are hacked/modded.

Nostalgia for COD is definitely a big thing. I have many a time found myself reminiscing about an older COD title that became a hacked mess. Primarily Black Ops 1 and 2. Also Modern Warfare 2. There was a certain "je ne sais quoi" about the original games that no remaster can touch. I'm so stoked the older titles have their servers fixed... I will definitely be re-living some memories from years ago that I never thought I would have again. And some new frustrations no doubt... But hey. One thing at a time.

Tbh battlefield had a million times more things going on that any COD game. COD had been pretty copy and paste up until now with MW which is a step in the right direction for COD.
had this issue, adding my friends through Activision network resolved the issue though.
