5 Mods That Changed The Industry

Modding video games have been around since roughly the mid 80′s. We’ve seen some mods that have blown up in popularity, and often times change the way we think about the video game industry. They add content that we would have never seen in that game before. Sometimes they even add different modes to the game, like multiplayer. There are even mods that add an entirely different game. Below are my top 5 mods that have changed the industry. I’m not saying they are my favorite mods of all time, but they have changed the modding community.

no counter strike = epic fail

Double_O_Revan4770d ago

Seriously! When I read the article title, that was the First thing that came to mind.

Counter Strike is probably the biggest and most important mod that I can think of.

Yeah, whoever wrote this is probably between the ages of 14-17. If I had to take a guess anyways...

the put san andreas multiplayer, but they dont put just cause 2 multiplayer?

kwyjibo4770d ago

This list was written by a child. It's like the world began in 2000.

Team Fortress for Quake.
Counter-Strike for Half Life.

Those two actually did change the industry. Team Fortress introduced the headshot to gaming, Counter-strike has probably influenced every FPS since.

Honorable mention goes to Desert Combat which definingly set the course for the Battlefield series.

KrystofKage4770d ago

Agreed. Team Fortress itself changed the way we played FPS multiplayer.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit18d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing18d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9218d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
