Microsoft is finally making a profit in it's games division. That's all they care about. I highly doubt they care about what people say on websites and forums as far as who's "won" or is "winning". As long as they are making money (which they are) then they will stay in.

Why the hell does nobody ever take into account that NO CONSOLE this generation has hit the $199 price point yet? Sales will continue to decline until the price hits the Sub $200 mark. PS3 will level out also once the Blu Ray and MGS sales are over.

Simple fact is that most people will not buy a gaming console that is over 200 dollars, and this generation is by far the most expensive yet. (Except the Wii of Course) The 360 is far from being done. It will sell many more units before it's done.

Its funny how only 360 bashing articles get posted on this site when the 360 is the best console with the best games. MS doest need to focus on another console because as of right now the 360 is a software milking maching and outsells sony in software almost 9:1. Its almost humiliating on sonys part.

Microsoft never expected to win this generation, how could they with the success of the PS1 and PS2. Sony had a huge fanbase going into this generation while Microsoft only had 1 previous console. For Microsoft, being in the gaming business is a long term investment. They may not be beating sony yet but they have taken a huge chunk of the market and proven that they can make an excellent gaming platform that is profitable. No matter who ends up on top this generation, if you compare the PS3 to last gen PS2 dominance then Sony has already lost. They shot themselves in the foot with blu-ray and the whole "cell" crap. Microsoft isn't going anywhere, they will continue to succeed in the gaming business.

Not a chance there are already a bunch of games coming out that we know of for the 360 in 2009 like mass effect 2, bioshock, aliens game and a few others. As for the whole its peaked thing well I dont beleive that since sales are actually up from last year(npd numbers, also vgchart numbers) and as far as graphics and stuff well we all know that isnt true we just need to look at the ps2 and see how they we still improve games on that bad boy way into its life span. MS is finally making money on their investment, why would they pull out now? yeah the 360 sales are starting to slow and i think they will forever continue to slow. They have not successfully widened their user base this generation, which i think they MUST do next generation.

I am kinda torn as to when they will release the xbox3. It all depends on how many consoles MS sells and how well their software sells. If their hardware sales slump too much we could see a new xbox by the very end of next year. If they steadily decline it will probably be 2010.

Either way i think we will see a new MS console by 2010 and I think thats a good thing. The xbox360 was never made to last. It was trying to get out of the door first and steal some of the thunder from sony; which it did for 1.5 years. However, as I stated above, it couldnt continue those sales and it wont see another 10 million console year. Next generation MS needs to overhaul their image, they need to reach the casual gamer, and they need to BUY studios and get more 1st party support. Buying rights to 3rd party games just doesnt work, especially since almost all end up on the pc.

MS needs to jump head in or they need to get out. They have been testing the water but havent dedicated themselves enough to this business. I definitely dont want to see MS wave goodbye to the console business but in order to really start making money, they need to take some risks and they need to stop having so many conflicting interests.

I think it very likely that MS will come out with a new console for fall 2009. As I said in other posts I think it will be a console with no optical drive but a standard HDD and network centered.

I do believe however that this time they will keep the 360 around at a low price to fend off the Wii but most likely only for a year or so.

If it's profitable they will make another one, it's as simple as that.

How is the 360 one of the best consoles ever designed? There's a pretty good chance of having it RROD on you and if it doesn't, the DVD drive will probably give you problems as well. The console also does not feature a hard drive in EVER SKU so the developers can't even depend on it. Oh well. Maybe next time MS.

With the amount of games the 360 has released and the sequels to these releases, MS is not in trouble at all. Great games are being developed for the 360 and as long as that continue, the 360 is here to stay. So what that Sony is selling more PS3's, their game library stinks, and the games they do have all suffer from frame rates issues. I know cause used to have one. Not to bash the PS3 cause I know it's a decent system, but they don't have the games to support that console unless you want blue ray movies.

I think that if you are a hare core gammer, the 360 is a great choice, if you want an all in one causual gamming machine then the PS3 is the one for you.

The xbox 360 is profitable and have lots of games and developer support... will the PS3 beat the xbox 360 install base within 1-2 years if microsoft sit on their hands? maybe... but one thing is certain... the xbox 360 is important for the next gen... since all the gamers and fans supporting the xbox 360 today will probably do the same next gen... it's a safe investment for a company like microsoft when their brand is stablished.

The PS3 sold more than the xbox 360 in america for only 2 months.. by a few thousands... what about all those months that the xbox 360 beat the PS3 by hundreds of thousands? Microsoft will not lose the US to Sony... No way... as of today it would take years Sony to catch up on the US installbase..

We are in 2008, we'll have GREAT games comming this year, ther's no chance of MS releasing a new console before 2010/2011.

There is one BIG thing that guides console develpment/launch, PC gamming. New consoles will only launch when current ones stop being able to run the BIG games that launch on PC.
PS2 is a console that is lasting too long and that was hurting PS3 sales too.
PS2 coundn't run Half Life 2, Doom 3 and so many other games, but they had a huge user base, so Sony kept launching games and making GOOS money with it.

NOW, things are pretty different, PS3 didn't launch with a Dreamcast 2, which had weaker hardware and an empty poket SEGA backing it up and didn't have support of the best game developer companies.

360 has almost the double console sales DC had, 360 is selling pretty well and the games sell by millions each week.

I have no doubt PS3 will do very very good, but it's hard to beat 360 in US and UK.

MS is doing money, there's no reason MS would launch a new console, it would be STUPID. PS3 is growing strong, hardware costs are reducing, in the following 2 years, we'll see if 360 can hold on or if PS3 will blow it away.

The MOST important thing is that both consoles have great games, and the most part are avaliable on both consoles. We could live perfectly with a tie between both consoles.

Microsoft and game developers make significantly more money selling games and DLC on xbox 360 than on ps3. Money is to be made by developers and like this gen 360 development tools teabagged ps3 and future gen dev tools will do it again.

PS3 has Blu-Ray and Hard-Drive but I don't see any game on that system that couldn't run on 360. Some games require Hard Drive, but so did some games on PS2 and I didn't see anyone complaining.

I will give you reason when a 3rd party game launches on PS3 and the company and specialists say that 360 can't run it.
And don't come with MGS4 or FFXIII because Ubisoft says that PS3 isn't good for Splinter Cell 5.

The 360 architecture is BETTER than PS3. This doesn't mean that the CPU, GPU ou optic-drive are better, this means that developers can have a better performance right now. Developers don't focuse on Harware faliures, they focuse on hardware ARCHITECTURE.

If developers had HDD on all 360 SKU's they would have an easyer job, but MS gave them the tools to avoid using it.

PS3 has Blu-Ray, but that made them NEED an Hard Drive, because Blu-Ray acsess speed is much slower than DVD, so you see games installing on PS3 HDD.

I think that MS will either release a new console within the next 2 years or they will exit the market all together.

The next xbox is scheduled for a 2010 launch. For MS that always means a holiday launch. No way they'll finish early. What I don't know is if they'll discontinue 360 then, like they did with xbox.

That will depend on what kinds of problems vs profits they are having by then. Although, they don't even have enogh resources to sustain one console at a time. They'd really have to build the org by then to sustain 360 and the next gen at the same time.

Microsoft Gaming Department is not profitable.They are still trying to recoup their losses on the xbox. They lost 6 billion. Then they lost another billion on warranty issues. Software has not even offset the the losses of the first xbox. Busy doesn't work that way. They are a publically traded stock. Losses carry over from the first xbox to the 360.Any business man or women on this site understand that.It's silly to think 2 years of good software sales will offset 8 years of continued losses.

The 360 is easily on track to atleast double the amount of total original xboxes. The 360's software sales is has been selling like hotcakes since Day 1. The 360 is already seen huge success and seen much profit. How much is that profit covering the losses of the original xbox is anybodys guess.

But if they do release another xbox, it better be a huuuuuuge upgrade. I dont want an upgrade like the Gamecube to the Wii. I want something that is atleast 10 times better than anything available now.

I think it's too soon to tell. If the 360 continues to be profitable, ideally more so, then they can continue to justify the division. They are still easily more than $6 billion in the red so if they can continue profitability until they get back in the black and then some it might make sense. At the rate they are going this could take quite some time - most likely they won't reach that point with the 360. So it comes down to what their goals are for the business. Are they OK with it taking 15 years to really become a profit center for them? And that could depend on how well their real "bread-winning" departments do. If Windows and Office et al start taking it in the shorts in the next few years then they might need to trim the fat a bit - if the Xbox division is still posting mediocre numbers they would be an obvious choice as, historically, it is well outside Microsoft's core competency.

Actually SCEA as a developer has the highest average ratings. There was an article on N4G just recently that showed all of the devs and their rankings in terms of how their games have been rated this generation. MS was 4th or 5th.

You talk about Sony price cuts.......the PS3 cost more to produce because of all of the technology included in the system, so as their production costs have come down, they have been able to cut the price to be more competitive.

You have to come to grips with the fact that the XBOX 360 is going to fall behind as developers strive to increase the size of games with better graphics and bigger environments.

My last point is that when you are talking value for your money and out of the box capability, what do you get with the XBOX and what do you get with the PS3 and the answer is ...a whole lot more with the PS3.

I understand you like your console, but the fact is that it isn't as good. When I purchased my PS3, I looked at all of the consoles and made the best choice based on quality, what technology is in the console, am I going to have to pay for all kinds of extra accessories(WIFI/HDD/wireless controllers/HD Player ect.) and exclusive games for the console. In ever category it wins hands down.

I'm not saying that XBOX has bad exclusives, but I'm drawn more to what Sony has to offer.The 360 might still get great games, but you'll start to see games coming out on 5 or 6 discs if the 360 is to compete with the PS3.

Okay, first off, all 3 consoles are selling really well, too well for any of them to be in danger of dying as the dreamcast did. Second of all, even if this be the golden year for the ps3, which I hope it is, that won't kill the 360 nor the wii, it just simply means the ps3 has more for it this year, (not that this is definite, but it's likely). I love my PS3 and equally loved my PS2 but at the end of the day competition is good for us. If Microsoft Reached its peak then within he next year and a half no PC version of a Xbox game better not need a system upgrade if you can already run gears perfectly.

Xbox 360 is doing fine. Not so long ago all the the internet was full of "PS3 is a failure" stories. If ps3 outsells xbox all this year, then it will be in trouble. I doubt it will.

I heard Braun outsold Cuisinart again this week in the next-gen toaster war.

Apparently Cuisinart are going to release a toaster that can toast up to 720 slices at a time before the end of next week or they are just going to go 'f8ck it' and throw in the towel.

I really hope they do give up, Braun are the best in the industry, always have been, always will be.

We will have to wait and see what happens. The only thing that made the 360 bad i think was ring of death. Had this not happened i could bet ya it def. would have gotten more systems into peoples homes. MS should try to fix this prob once & for all. Make sure that the new console will be reliable like the original xbox. All 3 consoles (wii,360,ps3) have awsome games, if you think otherwise then you def. aren't a gamer...

Before SOny with their hardware will be able to show the real power of 7 cores (which now, nobody needs or even can use it, but ok its Japanese thinking) MS will launch their new hardware or will show some ingame footage which will let the ps3 looking like a pease of sh!t!

If MS launches another console before 2011 I will never buy another MS console.

MS have spent so many $$$ on their gaming devision, that it would be the biggest failure if they didnt make a 3'd console.. and the 360 has had enormous succes compared to their first try..

In case you've forgotten, there's a little game calls Gears of War 2 coming out in the fall. Not to mention, a price cut will spike sales. Advertising the fact that the only place to enjoy the full GTA IV experience will be on the 360 wouldn't hurt either.

I personally find it funny that a console that has the best,widest variety games,the cheapest price for a next gen console(wii not really next gen) and is 8 million ahead of the ps3 is now having dooms day articles written about it as it was outsold by 25,000.

Price and games are the main selling point for a games console. Getting br thrown in is nice if you have a Hd tv(i have one) but to most with normal tv's this does not make any difference.

I mean the lineup this year is almost as good as last year which was the best line up for any system ive owned. Theres lo, ninja gaiden 2,sc conviction, fable 2, infinte undiscovery, huxley,banjo and kazooie and gears 2. For me with the 15 games ive owned so far the 360 has already payed for its self and with the upcoming games how can anyone say that its downhill from now.

Ps3 will do great, wii is doing great and 360 is doing very well. Why don't you ps3 only users come away from your pc screens, stop playing unchartered for the 3rd time and try out some of the highest metacritic rated games of this generation. I can assure you that once you have you'll realise why gamers have purchased a 360 even with rrod issue that may mean you are without a console for 2 weeks while its fixed free of charge.

I mean all i evr here from ps3 owners is this game will blow the competition away (lair,heavenly sword, unchartered etc etc) and while you wait for that elusive big hitter other gamers are enjoying next gen now on there 360's while they wait for the ps3 to be worth buying . I for one know that if i was to own one console out of my three it would be my 360 hands down as it provides me with the best gaming exp. Thats a fact that can be seen by any true gamer.

Unlike some of you i don't want to be bored waiting i want to be entertained playing. Thank god i went wii360 last year as otherwise id of been just another pissed of Sony fan posting comments on this website about the other consoles to try and make my self feel better about my purchase. Unchartered is good and being able to watch planet earth in hd is great. But come on that does not make up for a whole year of disappointment.

P.s for the price of a launch day ps3 i got a 360/wii. How anyone went the other route astounds me as a gamer i guess some people will buy a brand regardless of what it offers them as a consumer. Those of us that have used are heads are the reason we now have a £300 ps3. Think about that.

Lets hope the other potential big hitters live up to the hype this year. A good start would be to not get delayed again. I wonder how much the ps3 will be this Christmas when it should finally have a libary worth a ps3 purchase?

Its an American Product!!!!!They still pissed about America dropping the A-BOMB on there A$$....Xbox360 is a great system...and it has great games....thats what i own a xbox...i could give a damn about blu-ray and HD-DVD...i have been playing games on-line since SegaNet(Dreamcast 56k modem) and xbox live is the most advanced online gaming service by far...Just face it Xbox360 is going to be around til the end...its like 58billion reasons why..Why would xbox launch another console and the Xbox360 havent really taking off yet..They may launch another version of the Xbox360 w/ built in blu ray...thats what i would do...

It's going to be interesting to see how this all pans out. Microsoft has some big decisions ahead.
