Defiance: A Disconnect Between Game & Show

Gamer Euphoria writes:

''The TV show Defiance has recently hit Syfy channel after months of hype. While it may look like yet another run of the mill sci-fi show, it’s relationship with it’s licensed video game is what makes it stand out….sort of.

The video game itself released a few weeks back, in a bit of a messy manner. The MMO has been marketed as a link between television and video games in one neat bundle. The events of the TV show will be reflected in the game and vice versa. We’ve been covering the our experiences within Defiance (the video game that is) in a number of pieces, which can be found here. The general feeling on the game is that it’s rather bare bones, maybe even rushed. A number of theories could be chosen as to why the game may have been rushed to the market. The most likely reason would be for the game to be launched in time for the premier of the show.''

Did anyone like the show? it all seems to be rather 'meh' reactions from people

N4GCB4771d ago

It's bad.

Really bad.

It's supposed to be a scifi thingy but it just feels like you're watching a normal family sitcom in an scifi world.

SatanSki4770d ago

Yeah although i found it better then The Walking Dead where there is ten times more drama then actual zombies. Even my girl didnt like TWD, and mind you she watches Cardashians lol

MysticStrummer4771d ago

I liked it a lot. I'm loving the game though so my reaction to the show might be influenced by that. The writing and effects aren't the best but I'd say this trans-media experiment has lots of potential.

r214771d ago

Wasnt the best, wasnt the worst. I'll give it a chance though, really wanna see how it interacts with the game.

cleft54771d ago

The show had some high points, but it needs to get a lot better real fast. Hopefully the main character turns into something other than charming older guy that is hard as nail on the outside, but has a heart of gold. I get what they are doing, the problem is that it is kind of bland. If done right though this could reach Farscape level of good. Only time will tell, regardless the game is really fun despite what most reviewers are saying.

Ashunderfire864771d ago

O Shit Farscape!!!! Didn't see that show in a long time man!!! What great memories I had with that show. Heck i even remember that crazy sex Scifi Show called Lexx too.

GamerEuphoria4771d ago

I remember Lexx...it was really...really...really creepy

cleft54771d ago

I remember that show as well.

MysticStrummer4771d ago

There is definite room for improvement, but the second season is already in production so I think the show will have a chance to make those improvements and find an audience.

GamerEuphoria4771d ago

I honestly think the second season is where the game and the show will meet up in a much more convincing fashion. I just hope they add some interesting environments to the game first.

Rockefellow4771d ago

When will people learn to proof-read their writing before submitting it to the masses? Don't they want to save themselves the embarrassment of incompetence and stupidity?

GamerEuphoria4771d ago

That you offering to be our editor? It's a site ran by less than 5 people. All of which does this purely as a hobby and in their own time. No one is paid for their work, it's all on their time. This often results in a few typos and mistakes seeping into work. It's not a major problem as it's not a site run by people trying to be anything they're not.

Rockefellow4771d ago (Edited 4771d ago )

That's your excuse for not spending five minutes scanning articles for errors? That's laughable. I'm glad to hear it's just a hobby, because the "talent" on display won't be getting any of you very far in this industry.

You could at least edit the previews before posting them on N4G. That way, people won't realize they're going to a site run by talentless morons until after they've clicked the link.

I won't even bother critiquing the grammatical train wreck of a comment you left. Thanks for personally proving my point, though!

MysticStrummer4771d ago

I'm less concerned by grammar and more turned off by your opinions. Defiance the show and game are a pretty cool combo in my view, and I didn't have trouble with connections, other than a minor discrepancy here and there. Lots of potential in both, and the second season is already in production so the show will have a decent chance to find an audience. Trion has a good reputation for free content and fixes to I expect the game to improve quite a bit in the coming months. All DLC will have free parts to it so the future is potentially bright.

Digimortal4770d ago

Funny how the connection to the game and show is shown right at the beginning of the show. I guess that crystal that Nolan had wasn't in the game and how the Episode Mission of them leaving San Fran had nothing to do with it after stealing it off Varus (Spelled his name wrong whatever). Yet lets also not forget that episode one gives a great idea on future content. Races, New Enemies, Weapons and hell even Vehicles we will be using as well. So the connection while they were a little weak in the first episode. It's a great taste of things to come for us who the play the game.

I had a good time with the original Defiance years back, honestly.

Silly gameAr1902d ago

Me too. I remember putting a lot of hours into it before it went free to play. After, it went f2p, I didn't play it near as much, but it makes me nostalgic.

darthv721901d ago

I liked the show and picked up a sealed collectors edition of the 360 game for $5 at a thrift store a couple years ago.

isarai1902d ago

It had a good run honestly, way better than it had any business being, especially for it to be part of a tv series

boing11902d ago

Yeah, I'm surprised it went for so long too. Tried the game but didn't click for me. I liked the TV series, though.

isarai1902d ago

I gave it about a dozen hours, was fun even tho MMOs aren't my thing. But to even keep me around that long is impressive lol

psynetik1231902d ago

Paid $11 for this POS way back and I still felt ripped off

Usually pro has the higher or more stable fps. Hopefully that trend doesn’t happen again this game.

thrust2928d ago

Xbox X a lot more powerful allways the better 3rd party games, The truth hurts 👍

bluefox7552928d ago

@thrust Yeah, the newer, more expensive hardware seems to play games a little better. Shocking, right? Personally, I like 60fps on most games, so I go for the best version, on PC, not X.

RobLoPR2928d ago

@bluefox... so PC is cheaper than Xbox One X?

rdgneoz32928d ago

"allways the better 3rd party games"

Because it has no good first party games since they all get delayed or canned?

Realms2928d ago

@ thrust

No the truth is that a good PC runs circles around the X but some of you constantly try to make it seem like the X is better than PC wrong.

@ RobLoPR

You gotta love the goal posting the argument isn't about price point the argument is where you can get the best performance and the answer is PC. MS fanboys love taunting the power card the only problem is that a good PC can and always will outperform consoles.

iplay1up22928d ago

That is not true. Time and time again the X has been the best platform for 3rd party games. Usually FPS on the X are higher too. Just look at Assassins Creed Origins X compared to Pro Digital Foundry has.

Next Gen it wont matter. I just don't know what Sony and Microsoft are planning for next gen. This is the first MAJOR mid gen upgrade for a console. I just paid $499 for Xbox One X, and Pro is $399. If next gen starts in 2019. What kind of power will the consoles have? What price?BTW, not only does the X have more power than pro, but also a 4K BluRay player. Which Pro doesn't have. That is what makes the X $100 more than pro.

Oh we're talking hardware, because I was going to list some other differences.

nowitzki20042928d ago

I seen an article in gameinformer that MS will be releasing an Xbox One F. $899 with 8% increase over Xbox One X. First time I seen or heard anything about it. Is it true or was it a joke?

AnubisG2928d ago

Never heard of that. Most likely a joke.

nowitzki20042928d ago (Edited 2928d ago )

I didnt have time to read through it, but I really wouldnt be surprised so did not know how to take it lol.

I think its May 2018 issue.. Spiderman on cover.

slavish02928d ago

this is a last gen game it should be 4k60

PS3_Noob2928d ago (Edited 2928d ago )

If X could do 60fps compared to Pro 30fps may be it would matter more. Otherwise both can do well over 1080P which is more than enough. Games is what matters most.
