Why the 3DS is still valid in a world with Nintendo Switch

The Switch has captivated Nintendo fans across the world. But some of these fans might be too quick to write off the Nintendo 3DS right now.

You're damn right is it still valid! I'm looking forward to their titles coming out this year for it. Not dead yet!

n1kki62670d ago

The biggest reason, its still getting unique experiences and exclusives instead of port after port.

Gemmol2670d ago

Lol say whatever you want Nintendo just release a port for it, no matter what its dying and Nintendo don't support it like that no more

If you want to play old games on it that's on you but that system aint getting much new games no more

Thanks Nintendo for killing it slowly

bluefox7552670d ago (Edited 2670d ago )

3DS is still way better IMO, the software library on Switch isn't even close to that of 3DS yet. Switch is currently just a bunch of last gen and indie ports, with a few heavily downgraded modern games sprinkled in.

Gemmol2670d ago

You comparing switch first two years vs 3ds first two years or you one of those who compare a system first two years vs 5 to 6 years of another company

EddieNX 2669d ago

Switch is much better than 3DS. I've already played all the good 3DS games ages ago.

Uglyday2670d ago

Goes in my pocket without getting the screen messed up and has a huge library of games.

I have great games for both my Switch and Vita but on the go I’m just too rough on things.

What Are the Nintendo 3DS Games of 2018?

From GamesReviews: Nintendo is currently very focused on the Nintendo Switch. They released a ton of games for the system and will be releasing even more this year. And yet, they still have the 3DS too and have said there will be games for it this year. They have already released a new Kirby game in January and will release Detective Pikachu in March. But will there be other games? What will those other games be?

Hopefully also going to the Nintendo switch so we can start consolidating the properties to a console that can be both handheld or home used. I really don't want to play games on the 3DS anymore

FallenAngel19842997d ago

A Switch port of DQXI is coming this year, but only for Japan.

Knowing how historically slow the localization process for this series has always been, expect the western market to get Dragon Quest XI this year on PS4 & 3DS and next year on Switch.

3-4-52996d ago

Exactly. Dragon Quest XI will be a top 10 3DS game after it releases. How many consoles get one of it's best games this late into it's life cycle? PS2 maybe?....DS, other than that not many.

I'll be getting Dragon Quest XI for Switch & 3DS for sure and probably PS4 as well.

I need to see how the Switch version plays and looks.

FallenAngel19842996d ago

Plenty of systems get awesome games in their golden years. It’s not a new phenomenon

The Switch gets mostly ports, remakes and a ton of indies. The 3DS library is still far better. There is not a major realease for the Switch that is not already in the 3DS's library.

Prince_TFK2997d ago

I don’t see Splatoon 2, Mario O, and BOTW on the 3DS though.

Sgt_Slaughter2997d ago (Edited 2997d ago )

Breath of the Wild
Splatoon 2
Super Mario Odyssey
ARMS
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Sonic Mania
Mario + Rabbids
Etc.

In 2018 (so far and upcoming):

Bayonetta 3
Nintendo Labo
Yoshi
Metroid Prime 4
Kirby Star Allies
Pokemon (possibly)
Mario Tennis Aces
Mega Man 11
Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes
Valkyria Chronicles 4
Super Meat Boy Forever
Etc.

"There is not a major release for the Switch that is not already in the 3DS's library"

Also why are ports a negative thing? PS4 and Xbox One still get ports to this day, and when they first released they got plenty as well.

Dimi19782997d ago (Edited 2997d ago )

Zelda, Sonic, Kirby, Mario, Metroid, Yoshi, Xenoblade, Mario tennis are already in the library of the 3ds, and they are great. It's normal that the Switch gets it's own releases of that kind of games. Don't misunderstand me, the Switch is the console which needs to be supported right now and ports or remakes is the best way to fill the library. I would play games like bayonetta only on TV though.

Eiji Aonuma on the return of A Link To The Past, after 22 years in a twilight realm

Edge: Released in Japan in 1991 and produced by Shigeru Miyamoto, the SNES title The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past has gone down as one of the most revered games in history. It wasn’t the first Zelda, of course, but it set the quintessential adventure template and put the series on a course it has followed for decades. Thus Nintendo’s classic ARPG is considered holy by many, and you don’t mess with sacred artefacts. Not unless you are Eiji Aonuma, a designer who’s worked on the Zelda series since 1998’s equally renowned Ocarina Of Time and who now heads up the team creating A Link To The Past’s sequel for 3DS. We ask him how you follow up a 22-year-old classic on a platform offering a variety of ways to play, and what prompted Nintendo to revisit its world after all this time.

This new Zelda title will feature lots of things that are new to the series; right at the start of the game, there’s a big surprise that will shock players?

thank you

Xof4701d ago

The surprise is that the Link you play at starts out as a painting, get's cursed into being a real boy.

SHOCK AND AWE!

swice4701d ago

'"After being so heavily influenced by A Link To The Past, how do you feel to be making a sequel to it all these years later?

I’m slightly worried to be making a sequel to someone else’s game, that’s for sure. When I was younger, I would never have dreamed of making a sequel to a game by Shigeru Miyamoto. But now that I’m older, I’m like, “Whatever!”'
