5 ways Android gaming beats iPhone for gaming

Pocket Gamer: There's no denying that iOS is the biggest mobile gaming platform around right now. But Android is in second place, and closing fast.

And Google's seemingly ubiquitous smartphone platform is more than just a plucky runner-up in the field of smartphone gaming. In fact, it actually offers a superior experience to iPhone and iOS in a number of key areas.

From my personal experience, the apple app store has the games (and apps) I want, while on the other hand, the Google Play store is missing quite a few. Now, like I said, this is based on my personal experience with both stores.

I doubt that Apple will continue to get all of the good games since Android has 70%market share and Apple has under 20% market share as of 2012.

Apple is hands down better at exclusive mobile games, but Emulators are the bread and butter of Android gaming.

My S3 is a NES, SNES, N64, GB, GBC, GBA, DS, PS1, PSP, Genesis, Saturn, Game Gear, and more.

Phones are good for board games and puzzles like scrabble. That is about it.

Yes. It doesn't matter who the winner is here for mobile gaming -it still loses in the end.

I play sudoku on my android, maybe some garbage temple run or bejeweled games on my tablet to kill five minutes. Real games? Don't exist on iPhone/android.

although I'm a heavy portable gamer and cellphone games make me vomit at the thought...with proper accessories such as ps3 controller adapter to hold the phone as a hand held while playing the game can make it a VERY viable candidate!

I'm pretty excited for the Nvidia Shield...mostly because of how open source it is...emulators + PC game streaming...it will seriously be a good compeitior for the PS Vita and 3Ds in terms of nostalgia gamers...or even android fans:)

I would love to see mobile games come to both 3Ds and Vita, although not to concerned on whether their games make it back to cellphones:P

Either way, On topic...yes android blows apple away!

Homebrew...mods....all accessible ...and bluetooth your ps3 controller to be used on almost any game:)

Good fight...but in terms of raw gaming comfort android wins hands down...but in terms of ACTUAL games..i'd say the iphone has better app support....

I mean SImpsons tapped...just today got origin login...which Iphone had for MONTHS!

cheers.

Nvidia sheild is gonna be a niche product for 3 reasons: 1) It's probably gonna be expensive. 2) the pc streaming is only compatible with certain gpu's 3) in the end of the day it will get phone games. The ps vita and 3ds are made for deeper games and will get them since devs don't have to worry about dumbing down games to work on touch screens as well as analogs.

Hey man, have u seen some ps vita games and 3Ds games? we sometimes get screwed with cellphone games that cost 40$!

Your right Nvidia shiled will prob be niche, although I doubt it will be too expensive...and yes it will get phone games, but even phone games seem to get really nice treatments for very little cash. Don't forget there is a HUGE fan base for Old school games through emulating and I gaurantee the mod world will find a way to make the shield work with any gpu unofficially...I mean I can technically steam games to my phone right now...using Xbox controller and apps, sooo yeah I highly doubt it will be too much of aproblem for a dedicated device.

EIther way, I'd like to see more games being pushed out both by 3Ds and Vita:) Also indie games need to get a def price cut....it seems games like guacamelee would prob be 3-5$ on cellphones but on Vita it's 15$.

This is a prob having a game only console, devs can use that as an excuse to charge more for the game...

This is why I hope mobile games make it to vita and 3Ds at mobile prices!:)

Neither one impress me. I'll stick with dedicated handhelds.

Are they trying to reboot android and apple fanboys now?

To be fair, there are also human made games that release and lack any fun at all either.

jznrpg18d ago

But all of the great games have been made by humans

One is by choice, the other is a feature.

Guild Wars 2 been playing for 14yrs, 1st beta. This is just one company I support, Arenanet and NCSoft, even though I torrent, there are a few PC companies I will buy from. "PlayStation’s Horizon MMO spin-off, Horizon Steel Frontiers." I feel this will be good, NCSoft is a good developer/publisher.

It’s a tool. Use it elevate things and get it done faster. I’m sorry but not every game made by humans is good. If this can help things, then I fully embrace it.
