The Elder Scrolls Online Is a Bad Idea

Cheat Code Central's Austin Wood writes: "The enormity and depth inherent in the MMO genre make creating any MMO a daunting task. As you probably already know, the crazies over at Bethesda and ZeniMax Online have made the task extra daunting by adding the immensity of the Elder Scrolls realm into the mix."

We just don't know enough about the game to make any judgement. The folks that have played it don't seem to think it is all that bad.

I remain skeptical that it will give me the same experience Skyrim did.

I don't think they're going for the same experience (insert bug jokes here). It's obviously trying to clone WoW or at least improve on it with some slight variations. I was hoping for a classic TES game but I think the only similarity will be the universe, not the gameplay. At least it's a rich and engaging universe with plenty of lore. Should be plenty for an MMO and perhaps even enough to get me to try my first.

"It's obviously trying to clone WoW"

So it's a WoW clone because it's an MMO??? From reading the previews, one thing is clear: it plays NOTHING like WoW.

I think the big thing with the game is that it will be a good game but maybe not the game people who wanted a online Elder Scrolls wanted it to be.

I know that since pretty much Morrowind me and my friends have said woulden't it be awesome if this was online. But when we said that we were talking about those games and how they worked and played. With this MMO it's basically the world we all know and love but the combat and perspective that the series is known for is gone. Alot of people wanted this to basically be just as if you were playing say Morrowind or Skyrim except with a bigger world and other real people running around. The little we have see it's basically a pretty normal MMO but based in the world of the Elder Scrolls which is awesome but alot of things will make it not feel like what people hoped it would be.

At the very least that is how I feel about it.

maybe its a bad idea, but that would be my first MMO I played ever! :)

You should try APB reloaded or The Old Republic. Maybe even Global Agenda.

Lets wait and see. I enjoyed Skyrim, but one thing is for sure an MMO needs to be less bugy than what Bethesday usually delivers with their RPGs Elder Scrolls and Fallout.

Wizziokid4790d ago

It's an MMO it's going to be buggy so if you want a smoother experience best bet is to wait a month or so after launch, that's usually a good period.

camel_toad4790d ago

The usual amount of bugs with every mmo launch + Bethesda's buggy track record = totally unplayable at launch.

Seriously though, Bethesda needs to do a total overhaul to their testing. Long overdue.

Keep in mind that The Elder Scrolls Online is being developed by ZeniMax Online Studios, not by the development team over at Bethesda Game Studios ;) sure, it'll be buggy due to the fact of being an MMO, but it won't be because of the 'buggy' development by Bethesda Game Studios, seeing as how they AREN'T DEVELOPING THIS GAME.
