i see what you're saying about sony breaking even by the beggining of 09 but why do they have to break even by then, why cant they break even by holidays of 09 for example. the ps3, i would estimate probably outsold the 360 this febuary by almost 300,000 units. so that means, january ps3 sales combined with febuary ps3 sales, the ps3 outsold the 360 by roughly 600,000. thats impressive if you ask me. now also, i would assume that the 360 is selling alittle more in europe then vgcharts is tracking considering they undertrack northamerican sales.(this is why im saying roughly around 300,000)

also, keep in mind the holiday season is huge and by that time, a 299.99 ps3 coupled with bluray(retailers will be pushing bluray this holiday season as a hdtv counter-part) and all alot of those games that ps2 users love (socom, mgs, grandturismo, and tekken) that alot of potential migrations. lets just think how well the ps3 did in 07 holiday season and now lets think 2008.........

or at least thats my prediction. and i do believe a 299.99 ps3 will come. i believe that a price drop will come for the ps3 this aprail(being 50 dollar price drop or not, idk) but there will be a price drop and then by the holidays, i expect alot of bundles and a 299.99 ps3 for sure) i guess we can only wait and see though

what im saying is, a gamer walks into a store and knows gta has episodic content on the 360 version of gta but also knows that mgs, tekken, socom, grandturismo, and then final fantasy is right around the corner. if they're educated, most likely the ps3 will be thier choice.

Sony doing really well in NA. PS3 will definately be going strong for another 8 or so years as per the plan. RROD is killing the 360. No way are the board at MS going to go another round with Sony and Nintendo after the 360 dies(2009 or so).

i think its a good/bad situation for sony. for one, it creates more potential buyers for the ps3 and two, it benefits sony in they're gaming division which means more ps3 price cuts.

but mainly, it will make the playstation brand name become accustomed in people homes and the next investment on thier mind will be the ps3. also, all those games that ps2 owners are still playing, they may want to play them again someday and the ps3 is the only console with BC in order for them to do that.

now the bad is that, sony keeping the ps2 supply going strong means that all those consumers purchasing the ps2 could have been potential ps3 owners RIGHT NOW.

obviously the good outweighs the bad but if you're looking at it from a long run perspective, then sony is making the right moves, but from a short term perspective, sony isnt.

but the long run is usually always the best way to go

while i am happy as any sony fan can be i'm still amazed by the explosion of sony fans at n4g. it never was like this when i singed up 8 month ago i think.

why i ask? by the end of this year, the console war will have only been going on for 2 years. and when if the ps3 overtakes the 360 next year in 09, then thats 3 years and the rest would obviously be in ps3's favour considering they caught up by 7 million which could only mean thier going to surpass the 360 and then continue to dominate in sales imo

thier is quite of few things wrong with you're comment. first, what you're saying is that the gap will ALWAYS stay this way. with you're logic the ps3 would have never outsold the 360..........period.
second thats wrong is, THIER IS EUROPE AND THIER IS JAPAN. europe, japan, and america combined have the ps3 outselling the 360 by roughly 300,000 units a month since january. so thats around 600,000 in 2 months.

now, lets not forget the holiday season and all the high profile exclusives that sony has.........
during the holiday season, thier will be retailers pushing the ps3 as a bluray player to coincide with the growing adoption of hdtv's AND it will have arguably the best games on the market that those 120 million ps2 owners love so much. so what were you saying again? please comment back. let me help you out with a comment.........

I'm suprised Devil may Cry PS3 verison was able to pull in over 200K. It looks like Metal Gear Solid may be able to help pull in some big numbers for the PS3 when it's released in June.

My God the PS 2 is like Liquid Snake; it just won't die.

The PS3 has sold 153k more units than it did last February according to NPD. That is a tremendous feat and anyone who is disappointed with the ps3's sales really needs to re examine the figures and learn how well it has really improved. Seeing no new exclusives come out last month it still pushed more units than 360, shortages or not its an accomplishment. Things are only looking better for the PS3 and worse for the 360, with a long list of exclusives the PS3 should surpass the 360 by the end of next March.

i think i should go out and get a ps2...for old times sake~ even though my ps3 will play my old ps2 games...i just miss having the console around~

And lets face it the ps3 has no system selling games. It does have good games but nothing worth buying a ps3 for. And the x360 has had a stellar year with hundreds of games and system sellers and still bites the dust! Sony, bring on the big guns!!

Even crazier is the fact that Sony and Nintendo combined make up over 1,800,000 of those sales. Microsoft might be proud of their 360, but they are getting owned overall in console sales.
