Why Do Gamers Hate Pachter?

Michael Pachter has been vilified by many gamers. He receives almost as much hate as Activision and EA. There are memes all over the internet making fun of Pachter’s actions and predictions. Honestly, Pachter does not deserve all of the hate he receives from gaming outlets and enthusiast. Here are the most popular attacks against Patcher and why most of them are unwarranted.

Perhaps because he makes stupid claims? Maybe that's why? I don't hate the dude, I just don't think he knows what he's talking about half the time.

iGAM3R-VIII4776d ago

Agreed, the picture pretty much sums it up lol

DwightOwen4776d ago

No, it's because he GETS PAID to make his stupid claims.

xabmol4776d ago

Yep, that's it right there.

Hard to believe he earned so many degrees to get a job that anyone on this site could do better.

MikeMyers4776d ago (Edited 4776d ago )

Some of what he says is pretty outlandish and some of it is actually spot on. Not sure why he deserves to be attacked.

I think some people are just too passionate about gaming and let their emotions get the best of them. He surveys the market, looks at trends and makes predictions. I also believe some people don't like hearing such harsh criticism even if it's true.

What I personally don't like about the guy is he seems to be pompous and arrogant. Maybe that's having a thick skin from stupid comments he gets.

He opens up his show with "Hello fellow babies"

I mean, really?

xabmol4776d ago

The "fellow Babies" thing comes from an old radio station he used to listen to. I never found it condescending or anything.

But he really is the weatherman of video games. Which wouldn't bother me at all if people in the business sector weren't taking his "predictions" as actual advice.

@ MikeMyers

Statistically speaking, it's impossible for him to be wrong 100% of the time and there have been several instances where he just says obvious things. I don't recall exact quotes / articles, but I think I saw him say the Wii U needs games not a price cut and things of that nature.

In any case, most people don't hate Pachter (at least in my experience), they just think he's an idiot. Sometimes he just says the dumbest things, which boggle the mind.

MikeMyers4775d ago

I guess if people think he's an idiot or always says stupid things then its best just to ignore him. The more press and the attention he gets the more likely he will be somewhat relevant. I just think a lot of what he says is what most people would think anyways. Sometimes, although quite rare, he does offer some insight that I don't know from being connected.

I personally enjoy hearing from the guy. He doesn't come out and say "what im gonna say is fact". He gives his prediction on the info he has. He doesnt get paid to simply open his mouth. He puts in the work and advises. You can't get everything right or else everyone would put their money in stocks. I do get the impression he favors ms more than sony or nin, but that's just me.

3-4-54775d ago

EX: Pach says A......when A is wrong......he retracts and states why he knew A wasn't right and why he really meant B..

and so on and so on...

Also when he says A will happen and it doesn't....He rarely calls himself out and admits he's wrong...he's done it but it's rare.

I dont hate him, I dont really hate anyone, even the Welsh man my Mum ran away with

I just dont agree with alot of what he has to say, or even care what he has to say, I personally have no use for any of his market predictions etc, im not into making money, im not an investor

If I could "ignore" him like I can other N4G users I would, same as Peter Molyneux

caseh4776d ago

I happen to be Welsh, but didn't run away with your mum. :)

I quite like Pachter, hes very engaging so that makes him easy to listen to and more often than not any news posted about him will be out of context.

Theres no news in postings articles wehere he predicted accurately which he does believe it or not. :)

"Why Do Games Hate Pachter?"

Not sure. But then I didn't know games could hate anyone.

@stylishjerk

lol It's fine. Just found it humorous is all. Back on topic, I don't hate Pachter either. He just tends to be wrong a lot of the time and makes very wild claims at times. Frankly I don't see why people give him so much attention.

stylishjerk4776d ago

Apologies, corrected that error.

stylishjerk4776d ago (Edited 4776d ago )

I agree not everyone hates him, but when you have articles like from wiiudaily saying, "Mirror, Mirror on the wall who is the worst analyst of them all" these are journalists saying these things its pretty ridiculous.

LOL_WUT4776d ago

Let the guy do his job, no hate here. ;)

"Be creative 99% of the time" – Glen Schofield on how creativity can help fix AAA industry woes

I don't agree with that. I WISH I could agree with that. But buying habits and customer opinions prove otherwise

We've seen developers in the AAA space try new things and ideas. More often than not, the customers aren't willing to give things a chance, or not enough people buy into the project for it to grow.

Creativity works better in the indie space because the budgets, pressures, and expectations aren't the same.

Scissorman18d ago

it's a nice idea and it worked during the PS2/PS3-era when AAA didn't cost hundreds of millions of dollars. smaller budgets and shorter development time left room for more creativity and more risk. a game didn't need to sell 4 million+ copies to break even. things are different now.

This is the guy who bragged about crunching his staff and having them work through the night. Crunch culture has lost more talent and done more damage to the industry than any other factor. Screw him.
