i'm amazed no one said anything about this one coming. i just turned my ps3 on, tried to sign in and i had the new update message in front of me. i actually turned the ps3 off and thought it's a bug of some sort. lol

I guess Sony is doing one thing right about these updates... keeping them quiet... at least they are not getting people's hope up for nothing... Sony didn't promise anything... so, you should be happy they gave you something... wherever that is...

It's a firmware update, it obviously changes something, something you can or can't see, it doesn't matter, if it improves the overall stability and performance of the machine, I'm all for it, it's not like it's the last update. You guys have to cool it with the in-game XMB, once it comes out I bet you'll still find something to cry about.

This download does NOT kic me offline if u will...i am able to still msg friends and sign onto the store and network....previously the updates would prevent u from doing anything online untill u updated. Now its somewhat optional if u will...Hmmmm

it might have something to do with the whole linking ur playstation forum account with ur psn account but idk just a guess

The update only took me about 5 minutes to download in Japan. I don't think there's anything big hidden in there.

You never know it might be a firmware to stabilize HOME whenever it comes out maybe tomorrow never know so far i read from you guys/gals its nothing i got happy for nothing for a little bit but im happy that they gave us a update it's been a while i comment tomorrow to see what's up

The only thing I noticed which is cool is now for photos you can do trimming. Instead of just zooming and trimming you can actually move around and trim what you want on a picture.

My ps3 freezes a lot lately. most of the time when i use my web browser. maybe this fixes it

This might be the "in-game xmb" ready firmware.

In-game xmb is non existent without a game patch first. I'm thinking each game needs to be updated by a patch to support in-game xmb functions. Every game up to now weren't prepared for in-game xmb. Lets just see if we start to see new patches for games. I have a feeling the feature is already embedded in this firmware. Just need some modifications from the game to see it.

Just guessing though. I could be wrong.

My update was fast. 10 minutes tops for both of my PS3's.

I hope it wil fix my Army of two online mode which i cant play online. All my othe games i can play online such as COD4, Orangebox, F1, motorstorm, etc, i'm busy downloading it so i hope it works! If not, then its a joke!

what this does, took 5 mins to download and doesn't seem to have done a thing.

only thing i've noticed is that ps3 doesn't lock for a couple of secs when coming out psn store (as it used to)

short of that doesn't really seem to be anything to it. sony's blog say it'll sort out certain lag issues so am gonna jump on ut3 tonight and see if its sorted that out (have been having online lag/frame issues since i bought it.. cod4 and HL have always worked fine so would probably not notice the diff even if it had done something.

Apparently all it does it improve the stability of online gaming. I guess this means you don't get disconnected so often.

Not that that really matters since my ISP seems to throttle or drop my connection whenever they see me using it...

When warhawk came out i heard about these problems but i have been told by ps3 owners on this site that the great thing about the psn is that there is no lag due to pvp connection?!?!!?

Have people on this site been telling porkies. In fact they also said that due to live not using dedicated servers there would be more lag problems. I use live everyday almost and have on the rare occasisons in vf5 and fifa exp a little bit of lag but nothing serious so now i am baffled.

Can someone honest on this site tell me what online gaming is like on the ps3 and whether the lag/disconnecting is frequent and what games it effects? I just want the truth as i will be purchasing one to play prologue online but if theres online problems it might not be worth it.I mean ut3 came out at christmas and theres lagging problems that no one has mentioned.WHATS THE DEAL?

this actually fixed a problem i was having.... the past 2 or 3 updates, whenever it reached the restart phase my ps3 never used to restart, screen just went blank... i use to have to turn it off via switch at back always taking a gamble cause I knew not what it was doing at the time, I didn't experience that with this update

I wonder if this will fix Army of Two online? Man, that would be nice. It's so laggy I was thinking of just trading it in for R6V2. But if they've fixed the online, I'm totally up for completing more team objectives with random people I don't know!

I have to pop in SvR 2008. My Warhawk, Resistance, SPF2 Turbo and Madden 08 all run smooth.

SO if its that then good. Im not complaining anyways i've been playing SSBB to death.

This maybe a coincidence but the 'Downloading Settings' screen that left me waiting for up to an hour on COD4 online has thankfully left my life.

I had to uninstall the patch to play before but I reinstalled it after the update and all is good!

ARGH YES IM ANGRY, DAMN YOU SONY FOR FIXING BUGS

Good hopefully now I don't randomly drop out of games in Cod4 when I know my connection is green.

I just did the update thing, and when my ps3 restarted.. black screen with the message " cannot start incorrect hard drive detected". I upgraded my hard drive months ago, and as I read the message the colour drained from my face. switched it off and back on at the mains and its working fine again. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

This update messed up cod 4 ! Since the update I have conections problems and so do other people I play with. It's terrible , it takes like 10-15 mins to fianlly get in a game where the host doesnt disconnect or for the connection to not be "interupted" ! And when were finally in a game we can only do ONE, after that the game doesnt go back to the lobby of the server but just says conection interupted ! I hope this gets fixed soon !

Over the last 2 or 3 weeks I randomly get thrown out of chats. Hopefully this will fix that. Oh and I cant connect to some friends on COD4 hopefully it will fix that too.

Well all I can say is ever since I updated the PS3 to 2.17 COD4 has been lagging like hell because every game I've joined I've had the 1 red bar when I usually have 2-3 bars no matter who I'm playing against.

does anyone know what this patch was for or are we all guessing

Some may experience long download of firmeware through your PS3. I usually go to the japan website with a PC and grab the file, put it into a removable device like memory stick then install the firmware from there.

2.17 said they have fixed stability issues, but after updated it I could'nt party with my friends after several match on COD4... I'm not sure if its just the cod4 server problem...
